Question:

Were any songs ever released from that collaboration between Danny Carey, Les Claypool, and Adrian Belew? I'd love to hear some.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-19-2005 12:51 PM

What! Where'd you hear about this? That would be excellent.

Darkness 08-19-2005 01:24 PM

Yeah those who download leaks, keep the song details (what it sounds like) to yourself, those of us who don't download don't want anything to be given away.

Taken from Blair's January 2003 newsletter at Tool's site.
DANNY CAREY: The tall guy has a new recording project with Adrian Belew (of King Crimson) and Les Claypool (of Primus and Oyster Head). From what Danny has told me, things are going well and the trio have been jamming with other material (besides that recorded for the album) that, schedules permitting, they might try to make something of in the late Spring. now back to the god**** fix.
Rothmans 08-19-2005 01:32 PM

I dont think it is gonna be leaked Lateralus didnt.

THey keep as tight lipped as the can so lets see.

kurrpt 08-19-2005 01:33 PM

sounds like good fun

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-19-2005 01:49 PM

They let very few people into their studio, so I doubt anyone that is untrustworthy will get into the studio and steal some of the recordings. I wouldn't doubt if Blair released some phony leak as a joke. "Here's the 18 minute song we're been talking about, entitled Bratwurst. And here you guys thought all the sausage talk was a joke."

I dont see any L or K in that :p

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-19-2005 01:57 PM

Oh, that's because you don't know how to use an Atbash Cipher! If you transcribe it a particular way using the ancient Hebrew encryption technique, it spells L┴bzorgtuK, which is the name of the new album.

EDIT:

I had no idea!

Lmao

WTF?

Syncratic 08-19-2005 03:05 PM

So, I was at football camp today, and I was having this one guy (who's a bit of an *******) listen to 'I' by Meshuggah. He listen to the first two and a half minutes of it, turned it off, and said the double bass was looped, no one could play that fast. He plays drums as well.

Asshat.........

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-19-2005 03:59 PM

Heh, he's not playing that fast! How long has that guy been playing for?

Syncratic 08-19-2005 04:02 PM

I don't know.....but he's a complete douche to everybody. I'd like to show him some video and own his sorry, convoluted ***.

Magicaltroll 08-19-2005 04:40 PM

Show him Mithras :p

Syncratic 08-19-2005 04:53 PM

Explain............

Magicaltroll 08-19-2005 04:58 PM

Mithras = Super fast double bass pedal/drumming

From what I've heard.

Rothmans 08-19-2005 05:34 PM

Lykathea Aflame have pretty lamazing drums aswell.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-19-2005 05:37 PM

No no no no. Mithras's double bassage is actually "half" fake. I think their drummer uses an electric kit, and he uses a trigger effect, which makes every double bass hit go off twice, which makes him sound like he's kicking twice as fast than he really is. He couldn't do what it sounds like he's doing on an acoustic kit, but it's still extremely impressive.

Magicaltroll 08-19-2005 05:40 PM

That's lame...

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-19-2005 05:46 PM

There are quite a few death metal drummers that do that. It doesn't mean their talentless frauds, though. I mean, most drummers are one dimensional double bass wankers like Ray Herrera of Fear Factory.(Who is still quite cool)

I think that some of the faster acoustic players use a left left right right technique, where they kick the pedal with their heel, then their toe, then they switch feet. It's really quite interesting. I guess it's just kind of like alt. picking. :p

Yes. I was watching a Lamb of God dvd, and Chris Adler explained how he played part of "Ruin" with that technique. He recorded it normally, but when in a live setting he does it with that technique.

Oh yeah, just got tickets to see Mudvayne, Shadows Fall, and In Flames for an off-date of Ozzfest in Tampa. Hooha!!!

Syncratic 08-19-2005 05:49 PM

Hey, Jake, check out my Tool write-up on Six Foot Revolver's forum.
Adam's myspace site was just updated. The only intriguing picture shows three tapes. Completed tracks maybe...
These pictures are making me want the album even more. 16, 17, 18? Perhaps a double disc album? That'd be amazing. Amazing.

Have you heard of Nile? The dude from them is really really fast...

+zero+ 08-19-2005 06:02 PM

I play drums.. and what the drummer could have done, although this would be hard as well, is if he had 2 bass drums, he could have had 2 double heel pedals. you kick forward then backward with one foot and you can do double bass.. so he could be doing that times 2 and that would sound really fast..

ps. i read the fastest double bass drum player in the world plays for a country band..?? that messes with my head...

Smells like bullshit to me.
Anywho, drummers that use triggers aren't using it to get double strokes out of it. They still have to hit the drum with the pedal, they can just do it really fast and softly, but it'll still sound full volume thanks to the triggers. As for that heel-toe thing, listen to "Opening of the Gates" by Morbid Angel and try to keep your jaw closed.
