The Who - My Generation: The Very Best of the Who

YDload 06-29-2006 08:35 PM

Built To Spill- Keep It Like A Secret

Carry The Zero is still my favorite song on it, but I like most of the other ones as well. That first guitar solo in CTZ = sweet.

Pipes You See, Pipes You Don't - Individualized Shirts

You can definetely tell it's E6, which automatically qualifies it as good, but it's still lacking something I can't put my finger on.

Tangy zizzle 06-30-2006 12:39 AM

The Wipers - Youth of America (could be my favourite punk record, maybe. If it isn't, it should be)
Cat Power - Covers Record
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
High on Fire

Interstate 06-30-2006 05:22 AM

The Bronx - The Bronx
Drive By Truckers - The Dirty South
The Bees - Free The Bees

ATM 06-30-2006 05:41 PM

I might go to Aceyalone and Ugly Duckling tomorow night :-D So been listening to them.

Jacaranda 06-30-2006 07:02 PM

Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped
Radiohead - Hail to the Thief and the Bends
I like the new SY I decided.

Tangy zizzle 06-30-2006 07:13 PM

It's worth a little, so yeah - good stuff.

Spoon - Gimme Fiction (they play such solid, solid music. How could anyone not dig 'em?)

Happymeal 06-30-2006 07:30 PM
I might go to Aceyalone and Ugly Duckling tomorow night :-D So been listening to them.
Their new album is sweet.

ihatemybass 06-30-2006 07:32 PM

Alkaline Trio - Goddammit, Self Titled, and Maybe I'll Catch Fire

Just added these to my Ipod today. Had them a good while but I stopped listening to them. Used to be in love with them and I'm reminded why. I have Good Mourning and From here to the Infirmary but I prefer these. Definitly one of the most overlooked bands ever and one of my all time favorites.

Zebra 06-30-2006 07:46 PM

Return to Forever - Romantic Warrior

I don't know much about jazz fusion but this **** is awesome.

Dog 06-30-2006 08:06 PM

Man, nothing makes me happier than driving to Neil Young's Harvest. Seriously, perfect driving album. It's also good for moseying
I've also been on a power-pop kick this week. Mostly Gin Blossoms and Big Star.
Have you ever heard of the Flamin' Groovies? Great classic power pop. You'll like them if you dig Big Star. Check out Shake Some Action.

Anxious 06-30-2006 08:54 PM

The Taple-beatles. This little group is so awesome. They're like a better Negativland. Just listening to it is like reading a novel by Orwell and makes you hate the government more than any other "political" music could ever do.

I Was A Kaleidoscope 06-30-2006 11:15 PM

The new Mars Volta song.
It completely shits over The Widow.

Jacaranda 06-30-2006 11:23 PM

Against Me! - Against Me! Is Reinventing Axl Rose
Against Me! - As the Eternal Cowboy
These guys are fun.

Tangy zizzle 06-30-2006 11:32 PM

I was listening to "One Mic" just before. **** it's a powerful song. Nas is ze tits.

Tangy zizzle 06-30-2006 11:41 PM

List of my favourite digs from this year (not necesarily released this year, but what I've listened to most/discovered this year)

The Bronx - II
The Wipers - Youth of America
Bruce Springsteen - Greetings from Asbury Park
Spoon - Gimme Fiction
Comets on Fire - Avatar
The Replacements - Let it Be
Soulwax - Much Against Everyones Advice
Silver Jews - Bright Flight
Radio Birdman - Radios Appear

Tangy zizzle 06-30-2006 11:49 PM

A smiley to anyone who guesses what's missing.

Zappa 06-30-2006 11:52 PM

I'll do similarly

Harmonia - De Luxe and Musik Von Harmonia
Captain Beefheart - Doc at the Radar Station
Liz Phair - Exile in Guyville
Duke Ellington - Ellington Uptown
Mogwai - Happy Songs for Happy People
Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli - Claude Debussy Preludes Volume 1
The Congos - Heart of the Congos
Elvis Costello - This Year's Model
Pavement's first three
Wire's first two

Amazing that there's really only 1 jazz album that made a big impact this year, but fitting that it's Ellington, I suppose.

Zappa 07-01-2006 12:03 AM

It's definitely "poppier." Devoto spits a lot less venom. It's a great album, but "better than Real Life" is hard to calculate, in my book. They're really close.

ATM 07-01-2006 12:07 AM
Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street
Patti Smith - Easter
The Cranberries - Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?

the first two because I'm reading Lester Bangs' biography and it put me in the mood for them, and the third one because I feel like it.

I've also been on a power-pop kick this week. Mostly Gin Blossoms and Big Star.
I read that ****, I read everything I can find with Lester Bangs in it.

Anyway, Fugazi - Repeater is a work of art.

Zappa 07-01-2006 12:07 AM

"Because You're Frightened" is ridiculously great. I love "Model Worker" about as much, too.

Correct Use... doesn't have a "Parade," though. I love that slower song.

EDIT: I guess "A Song from Under the Floorboards" fits the latter bill. It's not as good as "Parade."

ATM 07-01-2006 12:19 AM
"Let It Blurt"? Really interesting read. I can't figure out if I like him or not.
Hmm.. I didn't read that one. I read one which was more of a collection of his work called Blood feasts and something something. It was pretty cool, but it took me awhile to figure out if I liked him too.

Interstate 07-01-2006 05:44 AM

The Natural History - Beat Beat Heartbeat
The Promise Ring - Nothing Feels Good - Ah I love this album.
The Coral
Diamond D

Zappa 07-01-2006 10:39 AM

I was always under the impression that we all just suck it up so that we can impress our internet buddies.

Anxious 07-01-2006 10:47 AM

I always have to do that too. It takes like 30 seconds.

La Revolucion 07-01-2006 11:44 AM

Right now I am digging The Zombies.

Robert Crumb 07-01-2006 12:45 PM

Listening to the Silver Apples right now, been digging a variety of stuff over the last couple days, though. Currently setting up a playlist for countries involved in the World Cup quarterfinals, which I'll be playing on my radio show on Monday. Got everyone covered except Ukraine, and I'm failing hard on that one.

Jawaharal 07-01-2006 02:59 PM

Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 EP

This is such a good pump up stadium song.
