It depends...

Images And Words is the album that most people seem to point to as being their best, even though I think they really evolve from it later on.

Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory is a concept album, which I personally consider to be the best thing they've done yet, and is apparently what the new album Octavarium sounds most like.

Train Of Thought is their most recent album, and is so far the heaviest thing that they've recorded. It's kind of divisive among DT fans, but personally I prefer it to a lot of their stuff.

A Change Of Seasons has one 23 minute song on, and a bunch of live covers which bring the album down. The title track though is one of the best things ever recorded, so you need to hear that.

To give this post a vaguely Metallica-related topic, they've covered the entire Master Of Puppets album at several concerts. Now that would be very interesting...
Thank you :)
Right I'm letting loose about Metallica now.
This is the last time I'm saying this EVER:
Despite me having a Metallica email address I actually hate Metallica now. St. Anger really sucked monkey nuts and now because of it Metallica are kings of the 'metal' world. Jesus christ, if you're gonna sell out, you can at least make some half decent stuff. There is not one song in St. Anger that I like. Even the albums right before St. Anger such as Garage Inc, S&M, Reload all had a few decent songs in them. The only 2 albums I liked by Metallica are Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning. The reason for Metallica's sell out is unknown, but everything started going wrong when Cliff Died (RIP). Either way, I have lose even more respect for Metallica every time I see one of their videos or merchandise from St. Anger. Why oh why did one of the best bands ever have to go downhill?

Ahhhh, that felt better, this thread was a great idea. To be completely honest I was going to make a thread like this about a week ago, but because I only registered in October I thought everyone would spam me.
Ive just downloaded sum new met demos and songs and they completly f***ing rock there heavy classy and hetfields got his gravel pit bk there a hundreds times beta than st anger and also apart from bein heavy as hell theyve got a gd rock rythm check em out ( follow me, the door, and a time for hate)

Josh 05-20-2005 02:17 PM

seeing as I have just started playing Bass, what would be a fairly easy Metallica song to learn?

CemetaryGates9 05-20-2005 02:22 PM

Amnesia (Pulling Teeth)

Josh 05-20-2005 02:23 PM

i was kinda thinking of learning that but wasn't sure. whats the unforgiven like?

Darkness 05-20-2005 02:27 PM

I don't think Pulling Teeth will be very easy if you just started, unless your like a guitar player who just started playing bass...

For Whom the Bell Tolls is the obvious easy choice, and I like My Friend Of Misery to noodle with on bass, though the verse is easy as anything.
seeing as I have just started playing Bass, what would be a fairly easy Metallica song to learn?
Ok, I am a drummer, But I play guitar quite often, and bass once in a while so I in the same boat:

My Suggestions are

Metallica - For Whom the bell tolls (its a very simple song, and pretty slow also)
Metallica - Enter Sandman (Really easy song)
Metallica - Unforgiven (Not really easy for a beginner, but a challenge at that)
Metallica - Nothing else matterz (Only kidding, its solid)!!!

flamesofbodom 05-20-2005 04:10 PM

Also The God That Failed is fun to play

vashts80 05-20-2005 04:11 PM

TGTF and FWTBT are pretty easy to play, as well as ...Master of Puppets :x

Puppets was easy for me anyway.

I can play puppetz on Guitar And drums... With me being a good drummer it was no problem to play. I think its easy on guitar, It just took me a couple of weeks to get my speed correct, I was a little too slow, All I do is downpick you see so I have to do it really fast.

flamesofbodom 05-20-2005 04:20 PM

Yeah and practice it so your arm doesnt get tired

Kickflip_Burrito 05-20-2005 04:32 PM

King Nothing is fun to play on bass. My fave riff is My Friend Of Misery, Jason owns :thumb:

lilmetallica 05-20-2005 08:23 PM

puppets is kinda easy on guitar once you play it a couple times but i diont know about bass

the solo and the riff after the intro are the hard things on that song.
the song in bass is very simple except for the same riff after the intro.

FlyingPaul_83 05-20-2005 10:24 PM

I kind of have trouble at 2:48, and the third solo i can't play at all, but besides that i have it down pretty good
