I have a link that's even better I think, at least it's got loads of bands that I've actually heard of...
It's a shame they're all bloody Rapidshare though... |
Yeah, they are pretty boring, but same with 99% of tech death. Meh.
I've learned that I really don't care for obnoxiously technical metal. Stuff like Necrophagist is fun at first, but it doesn't really have any redeeming value. |
Woo, I can play the delay part in Children of Decadence, I'll record it soon.
|

Very true. Same with Dragonforxe I think. Yea it's fast, but then after a bit you realize it all sounds the same. |
Unfortunately, Dragonforce is rapidly losing my interest.
|
I like Necrophagist's songs though. I think the notion that people have to get rid of is that if a band is technical, it's all they can do and that makes them bad songwriters. Well, if I were to listen to an ambient band, I wouldn't be thinking, "WTF these guys can't play their instruments for beans", that's their style, those are the types of songs they write.
And if you get bored of it, try not listening to them all the time or something. I get bored of any band if I listen to them for a really long time.. ugh, I'm clearly not expressing what I really mean here. But if you think Necrophagist are boring, take an objective view of Bodom, people. Come on now. I never really like Dragonforce. It seems like they just decided they were going to be a standard power metal band and achieved their goal. |
DF sound the same alot but at least you can sing along or hear a melody in every section. I listen to them alot for the vocal melodies and the dudes voice as opposed to omghermanliisthebestshredderintheworld.
But of course that's just my opinion. I got some legato lick pretty quick earlier, sounded badass. E-8p7p5--5h7h8p7p5------------------------------ B-------8--------------8p6p5--5h6h8p6p5------------ G-----------------------------7------------7p5p4----- D-------------------------------------------------7--- A------------------------------------------------- E-------------------------------------------------- 6 notes per beat and I hit 130bpm, first time practising it. |
Has Dylan been banned recently?
|
Yes. See the Report Problems thread.
|
Is The 57th Medical Failure another one of Dylan's accounts?
|

It's just they're right there in your face whereas you pretty much have to be into the more brutal side of metal to properly enjoy Necophaigist, imo. As I've said, I like a few riffs/solos hear and there and I love his voice but I just can't get properly into them. I dno, this isn't really going to go anywhere because it's all based on opinion n shizzle so, blah. |
Yeah. /discussion :p
So.. I'm sucking at guitar recently. |
Yes. See the Report Problems thread.
I'm surprised he hasn't been IP banned yet.
So.. I'm sucking at guitar recently.
Me too. :( For a while I doing so well, nailing all sorts of stuff that used to be so hard for me. Now suddenly I'm struggling with the simplest music. I hate these phases. |
Yeah. /discussion :p
So.. I'm sucking at guitar recently.
Hmm, I find that kinda hard to believe after hearing those The River Dragon Has Come leads...good stuff ya know. |
I just haven't been practicing very much lately.. I used to have a really good feel for the fretboard, like I could navigate it really easily and stuff, it felt very good to play. But now.. it's more awkward or something. I'm just gonna practice a lot more, hope I get back in "the zone".
You know those leads aren't that difficult, come on. |
Lately my picking just hasn't been up to snuff. For a while I was very fast and clean but lately I've just been stmbling around terribly. I guess it's time to get some hardcore practicing in.

That's what I need to do. My picking is fine, for the most part. I can still trem pick fast and clean. My chords are clean, but could be better. Ehh, I'm obviously rusty considering how little I play. With my new and improved sleep times, I shall start playing more, given more energy obviously. |
Me too. I still can't get this lick down:
E-----------12-------- B-12-13-15----15-13-- And yes, I AM comparing myself to Pablo Gilberto. Noone can play it like that guy. Edit: current post count = 7,777. |

I need some new and invigerating tunes to learn. btw. I can do the first bit of Necrophagist, "listenable". Once I start practicing more and have it "alright" again, then I'll record. Don't expect overnight though, that's not exactly easy. :p |

What song are you doing by Necrophagist?

Stabwound, at least trying. :) |

Yep. I dislike pointless/random riffs just there to be "cool" and whatever. If the song isn't written well then it can **** off. More bands should be like Between the Buried and Me and be technical as hell while writing great stuff, haha. |

Ehem, where's that SNBN recording mister? |
Hiding in the 7th layer of hell.

I seriously need to learn some bitchin' Bodom leads.
Hey Mitch, going by how fun the leads are to play, what do you think is Bodom's beast song? I'm thinking something from Follow the Reaper. |

The song Follow the Reaper and Children of Decadence both have tricky leads throughout, give one of those a shot. lol Janne Warmen was online and posting on the official Bodom board. |
Sweet. I learned Kissing the Shadows a while back, but it's been a while since I've played it so I should probably brush up. Follow the Reaper looked pretty intriguing too, so I start with those two. Thanks for the suggestions.
I should really post a recording of my playing sometime. I guitar talent (or lack thereof) is like an enigma around these parts. |

Word dude. NP Amon Amarth
Dude, so I decided I wunna be mallcore when I grow up! So the first step was ripping my korn, ill nino, fear factory and five minute ride(post hardcore band I saw live twice in Sac, good too). I figure, why be an elitist with so little to work with? If I enjoy all these genres, there's more to be elitist over! |
Yeah, why be an elitist when you totally fucking suck at it?
|
Yeah, why be an elitist when you totally fucking suck at it?
To prompt the terrible attempts at trolling from the guitarist of a Thine Eyes Bleed knockoff. |
Are you talking about me or Matt?
If you're talking about me I really don't give a damn, seeing as how my now ex-band bears no resemblance to Thine Eyes Bleed at all, and seeing as how you were saying both our bands "totally rocked" a couple weeks ago. Yeah, I quit WAT today. As did our drummer and bass player. |

TEB nor WAT was metalcore, IMO Both struck me as more of the "american melodic death" although TEB is canadian actually. 2. I was replying to ICB, so most likely Trevor, your charming self. 3. Ehh. I think you're talented. I was listening to the WAT tune on myspace last night and I couldn't help but hear TEB at the same time. 4. I guess I'll wait and hear your new bands stuff. 5. How much was Dean dominating your sound? |
