Hot shit. You need to see Boogie Nights. It's spectacular and nearly as good as Magnolia. Hard Eight is a great start to his career, but it just gets better from there.
You have to be 18 over here to get it out, so I have to wait :(
"I Heart Huckabees" was a movie I was REALLY surprised by. I only saw the last half, to be honest, but it was completely... demented in a sane way, if that makes sense (which it doesn't).
Every time I go to the video store with intent to get something out, someone else has got that movie out. Whenever I just go there to have a look, it's there.
Also! I saw The Squid and the Whale recently and it was fantastic. Written/Directed by Noah Baumbach (Co-Wrote The Life Aquatic). It's a touching and moving story of a disintegrating family from a divorce. It's a wonderful film. My biggest reason for enjoying the film was the connection I felt with the father (Jeff Daniels). It was too close and occasionally scared me.
Was that in cinemas or did you see it on DVD?
Speaking of Coppola, I might watch Apocalypse Now or The Boondock Saints tonight. Such a hard decision.
Boondock Saints.
That made me chuckle.
I'm glad :) |
Heh, quote whore.
You know whats a solid movie that I'd never seen/never wanted to see? The Insider. |

One of my favorite movies. Absolutely wonderful. |
Every once in a while you'll hear about guys nicknamed Fats Domino or Minnesota Fats, but I think a good nickname along those lines would be Saturated Fats.
|
What are those charts called that have your height and then your ideal range of weights?
|
Was that in cinemas or did you see it on DVD?
I saw The Squid and the Whale in theaters. So yeah, you'll have to wait a while for that to come out on DVD. I saw it on Friday. |
Heh, quote whore.

A very long while. It doesn't hit cinemas over here until March. |
What are those charts called that have your height and then your ideal range of weights?
I think it's called the Body Mass Index or something. If I gain ten more pounds it says I'll officially be overweight. But I'm way too skinny, that doesn't even make sense to me! Maybe I'm just really dense like a ball of lead  |
There are times
When you find Lobsters in a bucket, can't climb out! |
Woah, I just used one of those Body Mass Index things and it says I'm almost underweight. Creepy.
|
I got a 19.1, which is apparently on the rather low end of "normal weight."
|
I got a 19.1, which is apparently on the rather low end of "normal weight."
Ya, I got 18.8 |
Saw the oddest thing last night.
I was wandering around town with some friends, and this older guy was looking at us through his blinds. We all stood in his driveway and waved in unison, smiling really eerily. Eventually, he waved back and went downstairs. My friend Matt looked through his window, and apparently he was sitting there knitting and watching The Flintstones. While I was doubled over laughing at this, Matt took a picture with his phone, yelled part of The Flintstones' theme song, and then we all ran away. |
I always feel really bad when I make fun of those people.
|
Tonight, I'm going to win the Stanley Cup via NHL '97. I'm the Red Wings and so far I'm a game up on the Washington Capitals.
I won the Stanley Cup with the Senators back in November thanks to NHL 06. Hopefully it's foretelling. |
The body mass index things are grossly inaccurate. According to those Arnold Swarzeneggar is obese.
|
Yeah, considering Russell Crowe is such a fuckface, it's not too bad.
EDIT: whoops, @ Tangy re: The Insider. |
The body mass index things are grossly inaccurate. According to those Arnold Swarzeneggar is obese.
Well there's a more accurate one that takes into account things like chest size, waist, arm and leg circumference, etc. so very muscular people are not mislabeled as fatties |
I really have to see that one. I loved Collateral plus Philip Baker Hall is in it.

Like me. My six pack is like the freakin' alps. Or the Rockies. |
A bit to late, and looking pretty random now, but:
Books I really enjoy: 100 years of solitude, 1984, "El Niño que enloqueció de amor", "La Hojarasca", The tunnel (El Tunel) Back to movies... Has anyone seen "Beautiful Girls"? Great film. |
100 years of solitude
That's one of my favorites. I just finished reading the Tao of Pooh and I'm reading some Faulkner right now. And I read Mark Millar's Superman: Red Son earlier this week which was pretty cool. |
I saw Syriana today, and was thoroughly confused
|

Currently reading "Great Expectations", "La Ciudad de las bestias", and finishing off "A series of unfortunate events" series (I like his writing, sue me :p). Going to start reading "El Otoño del Patriarca", and possibly "Brave new world", If I ever find it... |
There has been quite a bit of much welcome rain today. My neighbor's pool flooded.
|
I'm reading The Wanting Seed, and I'm supposed to be reading Madame Bovary, but I don't want to.
|
hmm. I just finished watching Amelie, and it was good. The cinematography was beautiful and had some really pretty shots, even if the story line frustrated me at times.
I really enjoyed I <3 Huckabees. I ordered Tao of Pooh from my library. I'm interested to read it. Right now I'm reading Catch-22 and A Brief History of Time. I think I might be getting strep throat. I really hope I'm not, and if I am, I hope I can still get it crunk on New Year's. :/ |
haha, wuss.
|
I just went to the video store for a browse and they had all these videos for $2. They all sucked, except Rushmore, so now I have that film on VHS.
|
Rushmore? Amelie? Indie kids have great taste in movies.
On the subject of reading, when I finished Please Kill Me about a month ago, I momentarily felt sorry for Johnny Thunders. Then I remembered he was a junkie who brought it upon himself. |
Like me. My six pack is like the freakin' alps. Or the Rockies.
How about Andes? Andes Nuts HAHAHAHAHA |
You are strange Ian.
I hereby declare Rosemary's Baby to be one of the greatest films ever made. |
Watched Forrest Gump today.
|
Speaking of Amelie, I didn't really like it. Maybe I need to watch it again.
I loved I <3 Huckabees, though. It has Dustin Hoffman yelling 'Give me the teddy!' in it, hence my custom title. |
Ah, Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain, eh? I hope you Americans/Brits/Aussies/Canadians don't dub foreign films. I hate dubbed films.
|
Dubbed films are hilarious. To the bone. No matter what genre the film is, dubbing it always makes it a comedy.
|
No, man, maybe for five minutes, but it really ruins 90% of films or series. Especially the Germans and the French are awful at it. Subtitles for life.
|
I loved I <3 Huckabees, though. It has Dustin Hoffman yelling 'Give me the teddy!' in it, hence my custom title.
My User Title is from the part where Hoffman, Law, and the other woman are discussing Law's life, and then suddenly the demented "How am I not me?" part pops up. I loved that. |
I don't think you're ready.
No, I am. I'm ready. Well, have you ever transcended space and time? Yes... well, uh no, space.. not time... No I have no idea what you're talking about. |
