what do you guys think about Jani Liimatainen from Sonata Arctica... i think he is getting to be my new guitar hero.

would like to learn some song, but most of the sons is 170bpm fast...
He's ok. I have that video of him doing Young Guitar and I don't like his vibrato and I hate his tone. He's definately a good player technically but I'm not fond of his choice of licks/notes. I can't really get into Sonata Arctica either...

repcak 09-01-2006 04:43 PM

^^

hey mitch, i just tried to record some stuff, but the record sound so muddy;
my guitar is plugged directly to my soundcard through my digitech rp-80 and i tried Kristal and cakewalk9, maybe i should try another program? audio logic? cooleditpro?

edit: ok, i turned down the volume and its ok... and it's not running through my amp, so therefore i hear a different sound... hm... thats bad - how should i find a good sound to record when i can't hear it through my amp... my god. i hate recording :p

MRDuCran 09-01-2006 05:02 PM

Erm, well it's hard to find a solution when I can't actually see or touch anything but you might just have your digitech rp-80 set too loud. You could try turning down the master volume or the gain or something or try playing with the EQ, plugging it into your computer could increase the bass or something like that so just experiement.

If that doesn't work, you could try actually plugging the wire into a different port in the back of your computer. You should have mic and line in, both have different effects so try both. Also, on my comptuer, there's a gain boost on the mic input so it might be set on that.

Of course, I have no idea what's wrong so just try all of them and see what happens, they're all solutions I try if something's not right.

Recording program won't make a difference, all it does is record what it hears/you play.

repcak 09-01-2006 05:14 PM

thanks, i will experiment a little bit, though tbh. i would like to play instead of sitting in front of the computer :p

what program do you use?

MRDuCran 09-01-2006 05:20 PM

Yeah I understand, but it's always good to know what you're doing and once you get the hang on it, it's relatively easy from then on.

I use Cool Edit Pro 2.

Prince Charming 09-01-2006 06:34 PM
Oh right, that sounds like my old computer. It had a 4GB C: drive and watching youtube videos killed all of it's temporary memory or whatever it's called.

Cool cool, now you can listen to those recordings. :chug:
Well the band only has two atm :(
And I've written three and a half myself.

I Follow Jono Like A Dog 09-01-2006 11:55 PM

Ahh. Don't you write for your band though?

Adam, you ever heard Gorod? Like Necrophagist, but better song writing.

That's not very hard.

Yea I write for my band too. When they don't like something, or it involves something we can't do (like keyboard parts) I just keep it for myself.

Nah never heard of them. Not a big fan of Necrophagist besides a few parts from songs. A bit too heavy for me.

I Follow Jono Like A Dog 09-02-2006 12:02 AM
That's not very hard.
Shut it bitch.

Necrophagist is more talented than anything you listen to.

Apocalyptic Raids 09-02-2006 12:03 AM

I listen to Cynic, so no.

Apocalyptic Raids 09-02-2006 12:10 AM

Judging by that comment, I am willing to bet you have never even heard them.

MRDuCran 09-02-2006 01:06 AM

Ohshi...I just realised that the guitar Alexi uses in the Reap N' ROll licks video is Roope's mega hawt Jackson RR with the green pinstripe. I never really noticed it before but now I do, I want it.

repcak 09-02-2006 04:00 AM

^^

60 of these guitar were produced by jackson and though alexi and roope designed it, they never got one

Meatplow 09-02-2006 06:36 AM

Follow the Reaper has an insane solo.

MRDuCran 09-02-2006 05:25 PM
Follow the Reaper has an insane solo.
Nah man, that's really nothing compared to some others. Like the obvious one, Kissing the Shadows. Others that are a bitch to play are Warheart, We're Not Gonna Fall, Downfall, Hate Me etc. I always thought Follow the Reaper was quite simple for him.

On a side note, I ****ing figured out how to get my Korg PX4 to get the right delay sound so I can do the echo thing that Yngwie Malmsteen does, sounds brilliant. I'm going to learn that Buckethead song that uses it.
Are you american ?

Hey, I'm American, and I think Necrophagist suck.

Sure, they got some technical riffs, but they can't write for ****. It's so utterly boring...

Toaster 09-02-2006 06:53 PM

Weren't you a big fan of them a few months ago..? I think they're great.

Shattered_Future 09-02-2006 07:30 PM

I WAS a fan, but I confess I only listened to a few songs of theirs. Once you see past all the technical riffing, their songwriting really isn't that good...

I mean, I'll still listen to a song or two here, but I won't go out and preach them as the best band in the world. Maybe sucks isn't the right word...they aren't TERRIBLY bad. Just regular bad.

I have to agree with this.

I use a few sweep licks and riffs for my own practise etc but I can't listen to a full song without getting bored.

AA-12 09-02-2006 08:09 PM

Yeah, they are pretty boring, but same with 99% of tech death. Meh.
