http://myspace.com/20913840 was the link I was looking for, but thanks anyway.
Check the Parabola link on his myspace.. (watch the video, it's just amazing)
Hey Jake, what makes you think the Eulogy scream is looped?.. Doesn't sound like it to me, and would be a bit silly to loop it when it isn't that long
When did he say that? I highly doubt thats looped, if anything, The Grudge would be the one with the looping (though I doubt that to..).

I love that thing under "Adams Interests" with the whole Lateralus eye thing, and you hold it over a certain spot and the Ænima spashly thing comes up.

Otherside 11-20-2005 02:53 PM

He said it was either looped or drenched in echo, probably the second one.

In other news: 4,000 posts

Edit: And back to 3,999 because of deleted threadz :\

he said it in the vocalists comp thread in response to me saying that the grudge scream was looped.

it still sounds like it me, but i could be wrong.

In parantheses I said something like "Perhaps he just slathered it in some echo/reverb effect." I doubt it's actually a loop, but there's some effect that lengthens it a few seconds.

Either way, PinkFreud was pretty out of line to say what he said in the first place. (BASTARD! :p)

i'll admit that i jumped without checking any sources, just going on what i thought from listening to it, and from what i believe/d i had heard elsewhere.

the backlash from my comment was pretty severe and made me regret it.

denboy 11-20-2005 03:11 PM

Haha, I wasn't trying to give any form of backlash or anything.. It was just a sarcastic post based on me hearing about Maynard holding the note for 32 seconds in some Bootleg (in the "longest scream" thread, that was on here a long time ago)

paganman7 11-20-2005 06:09 PM

I've just noticed that both Sam Goody and Amazon have two separate DVDs listed for the December 20th release: Schism AND Parabola.

Does this mean that each DVD only has the corresponding video, or is this two different packaging for each DVD? Both are the same price ($9.98).

I thought this release was pathetic with both videos on the same disk, if there is now only one video per disk, my opinion of the Tool commercial machine would be greatly diminished.

Thats what I said when I first heard that. I'd buy both of those DVDs, even if they were 20 bucks each. :upset:
I think you can actually hear the looping on The Grudge. At one point his scream gets slightly lower in volume, as if it starts again. This could just be the recording though, I know a guy who says he screams longer live.

Darkness 11-20-2005 06:56 PM

Yeah I've seen Maynard do that live to, (bootlegs) and I wouldn't be surprised if it was real in the recording, but I also wouldn't if it was fake. At around 7 seconds into the scream you can hear him start to loose then note then bring it back up again... so I donno.

Who cares, Maynard is Gawd. :p

PinkFreud 11-20-2005 06:57 PM

ah, support.

it just sounds like it to me. ive also heard people say that he does it longer, but that doesnt mean that they still didnt loop it for the album.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-20-2005 07:11 PM

Is anyone good with identifying pitches? If you are, tell me what note he is 'singing,' and I'll try to isolate it in Audacity. This will help me figure out if it's looped or not.

Darkness 11-20-2005 07:47 PM

Just hold a guitar tuner up to the speaker while its playing.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-20-2005 08:24 PM

But then you pick up the guitar and the drums.

Whatever, It doesn't matter that much to me. If he can do it live, I've believe he did it on the album.

Futuro 11-20-2005 08:25 PM

4th Octave D.....

Syncratic 11-20-2005 08:25 PM

I think he can hold the scream.....he seems that versatile.

YDload 11-20-2005 08:31 PM
4th Octave D.....
Ahahaha, you're kidding right? Jeez, everything about Tool is in the key of D.

Futuro 11-20-2005 08:33 PM
Ahahaha, you're kidding right? Jeez, everything about Tool is in the key of D.
Yeah it was a joke Lmao :) The tone of screams is to hard to decipher note wise.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-20-2005 08:34 PM

Except for a few songs that are in E, like Ticks and Leeches, Part of Me..I'm sure there are others, but those are the only 2 that I can think of off the top of my head.

But yeah, Tool does play in D quite often. :p

Shadius 11-20-2005 08:38 PM
Ahahaha, you're kidding right? Jeez, everything about Tool is in the key of D.
Except the songs that arn't in drop D.

I'm sure Parabola and Prison Sex arn't in the key of D?

YDload 11-20-2005 08:43 PM

Those songs are an exception, I say MOST of them are in D.

PinkFreud 11-20-2005 08:44 PM
I think he can hold the scream.....he seems that versatile.
that has nothing to do with versatility though. it has to do with power and tone, seeing as how it stays fairly constant. i dont doubt that he can do it, but the album version sounds looped to me.

Toaster 11-20-2005 08:45 PM
Is anyone good with identifying pitches? If you are, tell me what note he is 'singing,' and I'll try to isolate it in Audacity. This will help me figure out if it's looped or not.
It's a G#, the flatted fifth of D minor.

Darkness 11-20-2005 08:48 PM

I'm starting to doubt its looped. Listen really carefully. I you can hear him start to struggle a bit, and you can really hear his throat opening up.

Toaster 11-20-2005 08:52 PM

I just did, heh. At 7:11, right when the band changes measures it sounds to me like his scream stops for a fraction of a second. It's almost inaudible. Again, it could be the recording, because even if it isn't looped it's not too astounding.

Otherside 11-20-2005 08:52 PM

I'm sure the studio version is touched up abit, but I really don't thin it's looped...

I don't hear that... at all.

YouGottaBeCrazy 11-20-2005 08:55 PM

Actually, I think most Tool songs are in the key of D Minor.

No? Try listening to it on a cd player, with earbuds. Maybe I'm imagining it.

Darkness 11-20-2005 08:59 PM
No? Try listening to it on a cd player, with earbuds. Maybe I'm imagining it.
Wait wait. It almost sounds like... right at 7:11, it gets louder. Is that what you ment?

Toaster 11-20-2005 09:10 PM

Well, not so much gets louder, but there's a brief lessening in volume in Maynard's scream. It's like the drums and music get louder to mask his vocals getting softer for that brief moment.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-20-2005 09:25 PM
Actually, I think most Tool songs are in the key of D Minor.
Technically, it's D major. It's just in the Dorian mode(Which is a major mode) the majority of the time, which sounds like a minor key.

D Major and D Minor are quite different from each other, though. If they are in D Major, but they sound minor, they'd be in B Minor, not D Minor.
In talking to Adam last night, he told me that he MIGHT be sitting in on the Altamont/Melvins/Biafra extravaganza at The Henry Fonda Theatre; it's just a matter of finding the time as he is currently very busy working on Tool-related projects (art design and video stuff). The Almuchefi has been a little off lately*, but I thought I saw a SilverBurst... Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Sweet. That means we're closer to having a single and stuff! :-D

Darkness 11-20-2005 10:46 PM

ooooo Jake got pwned. :p

BlindWriting 11-20-2005 10:53 PM

Honestly, there's enough gradual change in the sound of the scream that leads me to believe it wasn't looped at all. Meh.

Plus he does it amazingly well on that Oklahoma show bootleg.

I want new Tool. Preferably now.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-20-2005 11:03 PM

I'm not sure I did. I think he's lying. :p
