Close please. You can delete it at that.

Or at least delete the posts on the first page I'm obviously referring to.

Also, my first ever request for an avatar....reason I should obtain it is because it's an awesome album and I've never asked for an avatar change before....

Where is your essay?

And abstract.

Valhall 12-31-2007 01:35 PM

Abstract what?

Angmar 12-31-2007 01:56 PM

You have to write an abstract essay with your sources cited in order to achieve a larger avatar, if you're lucky, Vince may give you the attention whore avatar.
You have to write an abstract essay with your sources cited in order to achieve a larger avatar, if you're lucky, Vince may give you the attention whore avatar.
I see. However, I'm a little unclear on what "abstract essay" is supposed to mean. Does that mean any topic I pull out of the air, or something more specific?

pate 12-31-2007 02:00 PM

It's an essay with an abstract, not an abstract essay.

Angmar 12-31-2007 02:01 PM

Yeah Pate's right, my bad.

You mean, "You have to write an essay with an abstract", you fat mole.

TojesDolan 12-31-2007 07:50 PM

I'm 20 and I know what an abstract is.

If you don't know what something is, it's as easy as:

1. Open browser.
2. Type in the direction bar "www.google.com"
3. in the text field you type "abstract"
4. Press the wikipedia link

and that's it

Valhall 12-31-2007 08:19 PM

Refer to last post. I was confused about it's application here, but Bartender clarified.

Anyway, do I just post it in here for everyone to pick apart or is there an email I can send it to....?

MBS 12-31-2007 08:34 PM

post it here

Valhall 01-01-2008 12:29 AM

Meh. Well, here goes. I tried really hard not to be cheesy.

I'm sooo gonna get laughed at.

First paragraph is the abstract.

Valhall’s Impact on R&M (For Better or For Worse)

For nearly four years, Valhall has been a poster of both positive and negative influence on the forums, like most. From an incredibly negative beginning as atreyu_breakingbenjamin, with absolutely horrible taste and an incredibly argumentative nature, Valhall has, over time, allowed positive conversation with others to influence both his musical taste and even his own music, while still maintaining individuality in spite of continued conflict surrounding his personal style and choices. This essay will attempt to dissect the man and musician behind this controversial character, and to prove that he indeed would be benefited from the reception of a larger avatar of his choosing.

Atreyu_breakingbenjamin was an incredibly naive 18 year old from Gillette, Wyoming, U.S.A when mxtabs led him to the grand discovery of what is now the sputnik music.com forums. Remarkably, as a player of multiple instruments and as a lyricist, he was not drawn to the instrumental forums; rather, he was immediately attracted the rock and metal discussion. However, in spite of honest naivety, his immature conceitedness and rash nature immediately led to conflict. This was exacerbated by his inexperience on forums (and internet in general), coupled with severe drug use and conflict in his personal life. While colourful at times, he was largely ignored and even hated by many. This led to his eventual 9 month hiatus. During which a great many things in his personal life changed. The birth of a son and the forced quitting of drug and alcohol abuse, coupled with a marriage forced an absence which many welcomed, but after a time, some missed.

Returning after several months and with a name change to Behemoth_Rules_All, he reflected a greatly changed taste in music as well as a newfound communicative maturity gained from his recent personal battles. An active contributor to R&M’s daily upload as well as the monthly songwriting competition, his return was welcomed by many. He also became rather serious in his musical endeavours, prompting him to ask for, receive, and discuss needed advice. Through a move in the summer of 2007 to attend school in Arizona, however, things began to change for the poster in R&M when select details of his personal life surfaced, regarding his marriage, children, dress style, and personal beliefs. Another username change and an attempt to explain himself were of no avail, and he became extremely confrontational over the most simple of subjects.

One final name change later, Valhall has become a longtime and established member of R&M. While his tendency to allow himself to be baited into conflict, especially regarding his personal life and his music, has leveled some user’s opinions of him, he has still shown to be a supportive member of the forum. He has recently become an acknowledged reviewer, known for his conciseness and brevity. Still, however, he must learn to not allow himself to be baited, and understand that facts of his personal life aren’t always going to be understood by many.

In conclusion, Valhall is an established member of the forums and makes a concerted effort to be a part of discussion. While not without flaws, the user has shown improvement through the years and will continue to be a contributing poster for years to come. That, in itself, deserves an avatar of his choosing.

Indeed. It should be noted spamming this thread is bannable too so I suggest not lengthening a very short ban everyone! :)

Livin n a Cage in the USA 01-02-2008 10:03 PM

How does discussing nominees in a nomination thread constitute spam?

This is a genuine question so please answer with a serious response.

EDIT: Also, I'm sorry but you mods need to get your act together. You can no longer continue to enforce rules just whenever you feel like it. I realize there was a rule about no spam in the RMOTY thread (although I still object to the accusation that my post was spam), but there was the exact same rule in the Top 2007 albums Nomination thread and that thread was rampant with spam (http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=544698 -- See rule 7). Stop getting a heavy banfinger every once in a while and stop making up the rules as you go along. Either enforce a set of rules the same way every time or don't enforce those rules at all.

Permanent Solution 01-02-2008 10:13 PM

I do believe the thread defines spam as anything besides nominations and questions. That is neither of those things. =)

Livin n a Cage in the USA 01-02-2008 10:14 PM

So I get banned for staying on topic in a thread while the status quo of a thread here is to get completely derailed from the topic? Seems a little backwards to me.

Permanent Solution 01-02-2008 10:17 PM

I always enforce the spam rule in my rmotm/rmoty threads. I'm very lenient elsewhere but I've always held that one to higher standards because, and this thread was a perfect example, I shouldn't have to read 3 pages of conversations just to find 2 nominations or votes.

Permanent Solution 01-02-2008 11:10 PM

You've never run a competition thread before, but for the record it's quite annoying to weed through pages of uselessness to count votes for something you don't get paid to do but just do for fun.

Since I have the power to encourage you to not inconvenience me, I use it. :)

Pretty sure this is advertising. I didn't at first, then I looked again and I'm sure of it.
So I get banned for staying on topic in a thread while the status quo of a thread here is to get completely derailed from the topic? Seems a little backwards to me.
In defense of the forum, the "status quo" you're citing is a result of the users, not us. If you want us (and by 'us,' I mean just me) to turn into [a bunch of] SFK[s] and be rigid, stringent, and pretty much assholes about every little thing in order to change the "status quo" as you deem apropos, that's perfectly fine with me because it takes all of two seconds to ban people and I don't mind banning alternate accounts.

However, in the interest of this particular forum, I've discovered that it's better to be a preventative moderator than one who drops a hammer at every instance seeing as how all of the troublemaking users have at least one back-up account at their disposals.

That's all from me.

i am the robots 01-03-2008 03:12 AM

I'm confused as to why the hell my alt was banned. It's not a huge deal to me, I'm just confused as hell.

Vince has a little bit of trouble distinguishing between posts that aren't nominations and actual spam.

Anyway:
Mappy's been here for around fourty years by internet reckoning (about 4 years IRLOL). And has since tried as much as he could to improve his posting, sort of. Regardless, Mappy likes changing his avatar and would like to ask the mods for their support. It is, with reason, in Mappy's belief that he is deserving of one of the large variety.

Mappy generally posts on topic in threads that are on topic, though he may have knack to post for the lulz. Fortunately for Mappy, many other posters who share the privilege of a larger avatar also post for the lulz, and some more oftenly! Surely this is reason enough to provide Mappy with a larger avatar.

On top of this, Mappy is absolutely obsessed with Skycamefalling, this is his third avatar request related to the band. Surely the mods could not deny his multi-man crush. Therefore, Mappy asks thee, most wonderful of internet moderating staffs, to provide him with this cherished live photograph as his avatar:
