hahahaha, you'd be so perfect for it though. it'll be like you're 20 again, playing loud angry machine music with a bunch of 20 year olds you can be the yoda of the band giving us life advice and whatnot |
i'm in no position to give advice.
|
Well, here are two recordings from the old band:

Nas is the **** man.
Rap has gotten such bad reputation through the mainstream hip hop and media. Listening to someone rap in a coherent, articulate matter about meaningful issues is a phenomenal experience. Although he was fairly mainstream, old Nas was good at it. I loved his lyrics as they felt like pure poetry. "All I need is one mic, one beat, one stage One n**ga front, my face on the front page Only if I had one gun, one girl and one crib One God to show me how to do things his son did Pure, like a cup of virgin blood; mixed with 151, one sip'll make a n**ga flip Writin names on my hollow tips, plottin **** Mad violence who I'm gon' body, this hood politics Ackowledge it, leave bodies chopped in garbages Seeds watch us, grow up and try to follow us Police watch us, roll up and try knockin us One knee I ducked, could it be my time is up But my luck, I got up, the cop shot again Bus stop glass bursts, a fiend drops his Heineken Richochetin between the spots that I'm hidin in Blackin out as I shoot back, **** gettin' hit! This is my hood I'ma rep, to the death of it 'til everybody come home, little niggaz is grown Hoodrats, don't abortion your womb, we need more warriors soon Sip from the star sun and the moon In this life of police chases street sweepers and coppers Stick-up kids with no conscience, leavin victims with doctors IF YOU REALLY THINK YOU READY TO DIE, WITH NINES OUT THIS IS WHAT NAS IS BOUT, NIGGA THE TIME IS NOW! All I need is one mic." Mike Shinoda's old stuff and some of his new stuff is decent too.
|
So anyways, totally checking out a Peavey Forum 5 tonight. Should be a good deal, but I've gotten finicky in my old age.
|
pro-music aesthetic quality
that doesnt even mean anything but nice try
you dont mean anything **** breath |
Nas is the **** man.
His new stuff is okay, but I'm reminded of Chris Brown, lyrically. Don't get me wrong, Chris has a good voice (even without the T-Pain autotune influence) and can pump out the hip hop jamz, but aside from beating Rihanna, he's nothing special. I'd smack Rihanna too...I like it rough. :naughty:
So anyways, totally checking out a Peavey Forum 5 tonight. Fried Chicken is a pretty damn good song though, but I think it's because I like food too much.
If it makes you feel any better, on Friday I'm purchasing a 4-string Stingray that is left-handed. I play right-handed.
****ing mindtrip bass, man. You'll confuse everyone. Just cutting a new nut and reintonating? |
yeah i remember this stuff
why did you quit this band PS you play and look great on stage
The guitarist of the band (aka Fat F**k) quit, took $300 from the band fund, and personally cancelled all of our shows. We decided from there to just keep FH&G broken up. They got back together a couple months later with a new bassist. :upset: I never cared for our singer anyways. Great public presence, great attitude, mediocre vocalist. The songs were fairly basic and not fully matured, and the guitarist didn't like my style of writing. He freaked out when he watched these videos and saw my use of the diminished 5th as a passing tone ("Until Death" Chorus). When recording that song for the EP, he kept stopping and telling me to re-record without the out-of-key note. The song took me 3 hours to lay down with all of the arguing until I finally just decided to give up and do it his way. And thanks, I really try to put on a great show and keep the energy up. Playing-wise, this was one of my favorite shows. I really felt spot-on that night. |
yeah your singer kind of sucks lol
|
no it isnt lol if you cant listen to it without it making your ears bleed then it defeats the point there is NO reason to be anti-high quality cept if you're trying to rationalize and justify your crappy band's recordings
Danny was right, I'm not anti-high quality. I love listening to music with great recording quality and a perfect mix. Listening to Tool and Battles, for example, is just incredible. Firstly, because the music is awesome, but the recording quality and mixing and all that, the production, definitely makes listening to these bands... I don't know... explosive. Like when Parabol switches into Parabola, holy shit... But then again, I love listening to old Black Flag, Bad Brains, and Minor Threat recordings despite the awful quality because the songs still are wicked. I listen to low quality bootlegs of Brainiac shows because I love hearing the songs live, and, unfortunately, I'll never have the chance to see them perform. And I get to hear some "new" songs that they never got to record. I've always held this position that recording quality doesn't really matter, good music comes first. It doesn't hurt to have a high quality recording, but it doesn't bother me if it's not high quality. So stop putting words in my mouth, Sally. |
im watching all the videos of the bands that play this venue
and they're all pretty good but dude where is the theater. i guess im just gay like that, i need some theater. with starsmog i plan to pretend im paralyzed from the waist down. do some sets in a wheelchair. (im pretty good in a wheelchair) and then of course stand up halfway through the setlist. lmao i used to do crap like that with my band in highschool. i like how you interact with the singer though that's cool. bands need to do that. otherwise it seems kinda bedroomy. |

I haven't listened to them in their entirety, but I heard a couple songs that didn't impress me at all. I'm not sure yet how I want to go about it. I could put it right back up on talkbass as there are a couple people who would gladly buy it off me, and then turn around and use the profit to buy a righty stingray (btw, I'm getting the lefty for only $500). I've been heavily considering doing a setup and playing it reversed. I'm afraid the knobs might get in the way though. |

I didn't feel comfortable moving too much on it. I agree with a bit of a theater influence, it's something I'd like to do with my new band. It's something we'll have to discuss though as I'm not really sure what needs to be done and we really only have access to some basic lighting and a truss. It'll get better though. Yes, you absolutely MUST interact with the rest of the band. You are playing with them for the audience, not showcasing yourself as an individual. That wheelchair bit is awesome, not gonna lie. Keeps the eye, as well as the ear, entertained. |
punk isnt bad recordings its a production style
and i hate punk so much
No, those were broke kids writing great music who couldn't pay for a sick studio to record in. NOFX, Rancid, and tons of punk bands have high quality recordings because they do have money and label support. |

Have you ever fallen asleep with your head on the return/enter key?
I have. |

production style
Technology has advanced a lot in the last 20-30 years. It's much easier and more cost-effective to produce quality recordings at home. |

Did you guys book the show yourselves, or was the show given to you by someone? I've got a show this Friday, which should be pretty good. And we're playing one of the best venues in the city in 3 weeks. The thing everyone always mentions about this venue, not that I really care, but I suppose it's kind of cool, the Rolling Stones played there. I was stoked at a show I played a few weeks ago because it was at the last place At The Drive-In played in Toronto before they broke up. |
