If it's christmas time I'll be in europe so lets hope it's somewhere in summer.

PIGS(1 different one) 05-20-2007 02:17 AM

I remember when I first checked out post rock I was like oh this stuff is awsome and there is like 30049 bands in the genre im gonna check them all out!

2 days later i was like oh shi this genre sucks there are like 4 good bands!

AlienEater 05-20-2007 06:08 AM

most of them are boring and generic but some are incredible

Iron Bars 05-20-2007 07:35 AM

I was wondering, Battles are only 4 people, do they have some backup musicians for live shows or something?

They were confirmed for a festival I'm going to this summer.

AlienEater 05-20-2007 07:53 AM

no i'm pretty sure battles don't use backup musicians

i'd love to see them live

Iron Bars 05-20-2007 08:31 AM

I've only checked them out for the first time today and I think I'm going to give them a few more listens.

Kyle 05-20-2007 09:01 AM

I saw Battles on Friday at a really intimate show, it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to.

Na they don't have extra musicians, but each member does so much in each song. There's lots of wierd looping stuff going on throughout.

Iron Bars 05-20-2007 09:30 AM

I've never seen any live post-rock so I actually starting to look forward to seeing them live.

Man, Battles is crazy good.

Kyle 05-20-2007 10:09 AM

^Truth.

And Post-rock/Math-rock tends to be some of the best live music in my experience, so much intensity.

Great album

I love Battles

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-20-2007 05:08 PM

I tried listening through Mirrored like 3 times, but I can only absorb it in segments of 2 songs it seems.

ATM 05-20-2007 05:38 PM

Glad you had fun, Kyle.

I saw the pic of the drummer you posted, it seems we were both close as hell for the gig haha

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-20-2007 05:41 PM

You saw Battles too?

ATM 05-20-2007 05:44 PM

Yea, a few weeks ago in DC. It ruled so hard.

no propellers 05-20-2007 07:42 PM

Two completely different bands, as far as I can tell...?

Well, Kyle said that Battles was Math-Rock/ Post-Rock. Ive been obsessed with Cats and Cats and Cats' Victorialand EP lately, which is Math-Rock/ Post-Rock.

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-20-2007 10:58 PM

What, are you saying you want some Battles or what?

Kage 05-20-2007 11:16 PM

Battles suck 8====D

I can hook you up if you're interested?

Or Dallas wtf

ATM 05-22-2007 03:45 PM

Or DC, what the hell?

no propellers 05-22-2007 06:55 PM

Kyle, i found Battles to be kind of bland. the first few tracks were pretty cool, and I was hoping for it to pick up or get a little more organized, but it never did. kinda seems like a few guys just screwed around for a couple of days with some equipment and produced a half-assed album.
Reminds me of Animal Collective quite a bit at times. and Snare Hanger is actually not that bad prolly the only song from the album i would probably give a re-listen.

EDIT: i really want to see this:
08.18.07 – Chicago, IL @ Beat Kitchen w/ This Will Destroy You

Eliminator 05-22-2007 07:21 PM

Battles sound nothing like Animal Collective, at least on Mirrored.

AlienEater 05-23-2007 02:23 AM

or on EP C or B EP

I haven't heard much Animal Collective
