Yeah, so about that In-Depth thread ... I would critique it because I hate to see a guy hanging, but I don't feel like writing a full page of text that basically amounts to

I Don't Get This.

Edit: The title is oddly sexual.

thickasabrick 11-12-2005 04:21 PM

Sup deadest community thread on Mx.

Anyone here listen to Bob Dylan on a regular basis?

slack 11-12-2005 07:33 PM

Regular basis? Opeth, but not Bob Dylan.
How come you need 500000 (can't read how many zeros that is) words? Is this like for a class?

edit - I've considered writing my own novel, I have a few good ideas that I would definitely wanna make a full length novel out of. But I have neither the time, the patience, nor the writing ability to give them the treatment they deserve at this point in my life.
I wish I was in your case.
I have the time and jazz but no ideas.

Dag yo. How did you come across yours?

FA 11-13-2005 12:50 AM

anyone have the privilege to see Bright Eyes with Spoon, David Dondero, and Willy Mason at the Orpheum in Omaha, Neb. on november 11th? such an amazing show.

slack 11-13-2005 12:54 AM

no, and i live about thirty miles awayyy.
www.nanowrimo.com

It's actually non-curricular, it's a little project of mine. I wanted to do this on my own, although I'm delayed like, 13 thousand words (it's 50k, fifty thousand by thw way :))

Anyhow, as my workload is going now, I'll have to like... do something off the hook this weekend.
I actually ordered 'No Plot? No Problem!' off Amazon yesterday... I read the first few pages using search inside, and it seemed fairly easy going, so I picked it up for about £5. Should be arriving before wednesday, with any luck.

I've been meaning to start writing for years now, and did actually start a novel about two years back, but what with fatherhood and marriage taking hold, it kind of got put on the back burner a bit. :-/

Also, I got the new In Flames album Come Clarity, which is due out February 7th, it's amazing.
I saw them supporting Motorhead on Tuesday, spent the time before Motorhead came on saying to the lad next to me "How ****ing good were they?". Absolutely brilliant.

No, although i wish i had. Unforunately i live in the UK, and any of those bands making an appearance over here is a very rare occurrence.

Has anyone listened to much of Plans? I have it but i've bought so many CDs recently it's been difficult to find much time. However so far i've enjoyed What Sara Said and I Will Follow You Into The Dark. The latter is quite a cheese-tastic lyrically, but Gibbard manages to pull it off as sweet.

metaliq 11-13-2005 11:06 AM

I like Plans. Dan (RollerQueen) said it was one of their lesser albums but it is still good. What Sara Said and Brothers On A Hotel Bed are two of my favorites from that album.

Any one happen to pick up the new Spill Canvas EP? It's not acoustic anymore, since he added a full band, but it is still worthy of a listen.

No, but I saw them (minus spoon) on Nov 9th at Playmakers Auditorium in Fargo ND.

ATC 11-13-2005 03:30 PM

Ahh, I've given up on the Nanowrimo. There's no way I'm getting past 10000. I put the first 2000 up in the Short story thread but life's getting too dramatic to do something as simple as write. I hate other people's abusive fathers.

And Tojes, good luck with Nano.

ITRIEDVOODOOONCE 11-13-2005 09:32 PM

cmon guys, am i really the one that killed the indepth thread?

I'm assuming that everybody is choosing not to crit/post for the same reasons I am....pure laziness. You expected too much out of this crowd of scallywags.

I'm inching toward 3,000. I'm going to give it my best shot, I know I won't make it but as far as I'm concerned a 25,000 or even 10,000 word piece is pretty impressive for something on the fly.

metaliq 11-13-2005 10:11 PM

So my band knows a college student has access to $500,000 worth of equipment and for a class next semester he is going to record our demo. 5 songs for free. High quality too.

i am the robots 11-13-2005 10:12 PM

Hey everybody, what's up? How were the weekends? I found my iPod... and I got to see Kill Your Idols live in a local record store basement :).

Looks like I'm ahead of everyone. I have 7000 words already.

I feel strange about it. A lot of content in what I write though, but I develop everything in mini-stories to keep it all the way fresh.

Thanks ATC :D

morrissey 11-13-2005 10:30 PM

I'm at 3,568 now. Only 50% behind you.

I kind of wish I had buckled down at the beginning of November. The month's half over and I'm only just starting.

Ever tried going very, very random while writing? It hepls a lot with humor, word count and getting yourself a little offtrack of the serious writing.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 11-13-2005 10:41 PM

I have 30,000 words.

morrissey 11-13-2005 10:41 PM

This whole thing is random. I don't have any semblance of plot or methodic character development or comprehensible sentence structure.

But hey that's not what this is about. :p

edit: no ****, Ben? Nice work. I might get there by November 06. :(

TojesDolan 11-13-2005 10:54 PM
I have 30,000 words.
My fusty Walrus! How did you manage to get so many?

I mean, either you started it some time back, or you have a very disperse mind and sh¡t loads of free time.

EmergencyRoom 11-14-2005 08:40 AM

What's the site for that again? When i get back on i might have a a go at it.

Nightvision 11-14-2005 11:12 AM

I have 46,000 words...

I don't really. :upset:

However, I AM starting this month, as I've got a hella solid concept for a novel, and will shortly have much more free time (I have 20 days leave coming on Wednesday... :thumb: )

Spectrum 11-14-2005 01:30 PM

Wow, I would have a hard time writing a novel with that kind of time constraint. Also, I'm a big-time slacker and have lots of other work that needs to be done, like school work. I'd put it off until it was too late.

Also, Mozza, good work scoring a giant "House" av. I love that show.

TojesDolan 11-15-2005 06:19 PM

www.nanowrimo.com

For Emergency Room. Come back man, it's getting crappy. I mean, it was crappy already... But even I'm not up here anymore.

So I'll make a fairly emotional post here, you're warned.

This fucking November has been the most tiring month I've experienced, in my whole life. Nothing compares to the level of stress I have been put to this month: Ranging from the every-month stuff (Constructive design blueprints and designs, homework, and varied stuff) to Constructing two batteries (a dry one and a wet one), Making varied chemistry projects, collecting money for something, a school trip, my novel, planning and helping with the preparing of the super kewl Halloween School bash... And I'm not even considering music and social life there. It's been a bitch, and it just gets even tougher: Christmas painting stuff, art project, more C++ programming...

I dislike complaining about it. I like it to a certain extent, but dammit, does it have to be this crappy? :( This all came very, very together this particular week: My MX account got hacked (yeah, well. Internet life. Not so important but adds up), I've been doing "badly" in my later exams (statistics is going to be hell, the law class will be a major kick in the butt, I got a B in math... Not so bad, but I'm struggling with other kids to get a College Scholarship and that will mess with my GPA... dang)

So yeah. Bloody November will be really, really a problem in my life. I was going to make a thread about it, but then again I thought it wasn't important enough to be a thread, but not insignificant enough for to pass that through... I have to write what I feel in order to feel better, perhaps. Not to mention I overthink stuff over, and over again (I was very upset because I failed in the smallest, stupidest part in this maximum/minimum problems in Calculus... like the last part of the process was wrong...)

So yeah. Please Imagine this post wasn't even here and pass through OK yeah lol. I'll be making some crits, I need some literature right now.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 11-15-2005 06:33 PM

Your password must have sucked. Either that or you made enemies, BAD HAX0r N-m-EZ@!!

TojesDolan 11-15-2005 07:02 PM

According to MSN password detector, it was a medium level password. I forgot to include excentric symbols. Anyhow, I didn't have enemies. You know there's been a hijack spawning attempts here and there by Chad (thechad202, maybe you don't know him) So I clicked one of those threads and my account died.

Yup.
