Listen to Saetia, Hot Cross, As The Sun Sets, The Assistant, Funeral Diner, A Day In Black And White, and Circle Takes The Square, thats real emo/screamo. I got a demo from these guys about a year and a half ago after talking to the guy on soulseek. I always forgot to mention them on here. I think they broke up, but they are still an awesome band. Sounds like Hot Cross with a rougher and more melodic edge.

They believe The Promise Ring, The Get-Up Kids, Jawbreaker and Brand New to be emo.

This isn't exactly gonna answer your question but i believe the definition is in the hardcore/metalcore community thread(first page)
My favorite screamo band is Circle Takes The Square, i guess screamo is screaming that tends to use a lot of imagery and such, as does emo. Im not 100% on that, because i haven't been into screamo that long.

Screamo is a heavier version of screamo, usually bordering on grind but having an extreme sense of art and emotion.
