It's not even worth replying to Chris, but Dawkins is pretty ignorant about religion, especially considering he's made it his life's work to criticize it.

If someone built their life around The Dungeon Master Manual or The Forgotten Realms series we would be concerned for their mental health

But, when someone does the same thing with the writings of Bronze Age goat herders, we are required to hold their beliefs in reverence

Is there a compelling reason for this?

Apoc 11-16-2009 03:20 AM

because it's the word of God bro

illmitch 11-16-2009 03:24 AM

i have a problem with people believing that the world was literally made in 7 days

but i dont have a problem with people leading their lives around the morality tales in the bible

its like i would have a problem with people believing that whatever forgotten realms gods are the creaters of mankind or w/e

but i wouldnt have a problem with a person holding the courage and good deeds of drizzt do'urden as a model for others to follow

mappyxmassacre 11-16-2009 03:25 AM

youre a faggot mitch

Jaundice 11-16-2009 03:25 AM

i can't believe in this enlightened day and age there are still legally sane people who believe in organized religion

illmitch 11-16-2009 03:27 AM
i have a problem with people believing that the world was literally made in 7 days
exact opposite of how i feel

it's harmless to go around thinking that you can part the red sea or turn water into wine but you're actually endangering the lives of others once you go around basing your values off the infinite-eyes-for-an-eye policies of the bible

Tyler 11-16-2009 03:37 AM

fyi im not religious and fyi i dont really think i believe in a higher power

i just thing dawkins is a belligerent tool and no, im not going to bother explaining myself because it's 4:30AM and frankly I can't be bothered trying to form a coherent argument at this time of night/morning

adb 11-16-2009 03:38 AM

cool story bro

Dawkin's is the archetypal Atheist, he's old, always looks pissed and has a British accent

he has a large appeal to other Atheists

almost everyone or anything can be boiled down to appeal, someone either appeals to you or they don't

something either appeals to you or it doesn't

Nostalgia 11-16-2009 03:39 AM

everybody's so ignant

But the Bible is full of acts of appalling cruelty, e.g. Hosea 13:16

"Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up"

There are probably better examples to live by

Your anger is better directed against his opponents, many of whom are actually inciting (and carrying out) violence
