Haha, yeah, I definitely ordered from them. There really wasn't any other option. I emailed Skip a week or so ago asking for his advice on gauges based on my intended tuning and scale, and when he got back to me, I went ahead and ordered. I'm pretty pumped. I'll have almost an extra octave of range... It's basically like having an 8 string bass. And the low A should be thunderous.

I use a .166 low A (35" scale), which should be roughly the same tension-wise as your .158 low A (I think you use a 36" - 33" fan, right?). If that's the case, it is monstrous and amazing. :)

I want to buy a jazz bass.

What do you reckon, Fender American Deluxe vs some kind of Sadowsky?

BenJammin 05-18-2012 03:32 PM

So if I have dead spots in my neck, that just appeared out of nowhere, can I assume this is due to my neck shifting, and can be fixed with a truss adjustment?

gaslight 05-18-2012 07:07 PM

Holy water.

I've had a number of beer. I'm not sure how that's going to fix anything.

Did you change anything - strings, tuners, anything?

BenJammin 05-19-2012 10:55 AM

Nope. I literally hadn't touched it in 2 days.

FunkMetalBass 05-21-2012 10:29 AM

I've been thinking about this for days, and have literally come up with nothing. I can think of no reason that your neck should suddenly have dead spots, unless you've never noticed them before and you're just hyper aware.

Possibly, you might try tightening your neck bolts. Other than that, I'm stumped.

BenJammin 05-21-2012 11:00 AM

Lol my roommate and I figured it out. I physically caused deformities in the strings from pressing down too hard on them. So it was causing the strings to bottom out across the frets.

FunkMetalBass 05-22-2012 09:53 AM

Oh. That's different than a dead spot. A dead spot is a place on the neck where the string vibration matches the resonant frequency of the neck woods, causing the note to die excessively quick. It is independent of action or neck bow/relief.

Pastorius 05-22-2012 11:55 AM

And is a tragedy

gaslight 05-23-2012 07:42 AM

So, new strings should fix that then?

BenJammin 05-23-2012 09:53 AM

Should, yeah. Still think it's weird how it just happened seemingly overnight. But I haven't had a chance to change out the strings yet. Weird stuff. I'm probably used to the tension of bass strings, so I'm pressing way harder than I need to.

gaslight 05-23-2012 10:10 AM

Yeah could be that.

I'm really enjoying doing reading practise lately. Wish I'd enjoyed it when I was younger, I'd have done as much of it as I should have .

Convectuoso 06-14-2012 01:29 AM

Damnit, I thought it'd be awesome to at least have a post or two within 5 minutes :(

Convectuoso 06-15-2012 01:49 AM

Come the fuck on.

It's Emanuelle Chiriqui basically nude. Grow some fucking balls and post motherfuckers.

fatbandit 06-15-2012 04:15 PM

no MEW, no deal.

i've fucked my knee up, and it kind of has an 'intermittent fault' now. I think it's because of all the walking at work. I'm not doing deliveries for the time being, until I've seen my doctor about it. but I really want out of this job, so maybe it's a blessing in disguise?

finding another job isn't the problem, although there aren't loads about. finding one that pays the same however, would be a cunt. dunno whether to try and sack this job off or not really!

how's the casual?

gaslight 06-15-2012 04:20 PM

Sounds like you should be drinking.

fatbandit 06-15-2012 04:33 PM

I'm on early shifts while I'm not delivering, so I'm getting up at 5am every morning. So I'm up in 5 hours. Joy. Not had more than 3 and a half hours sleep any night this week :( No time to drink!

gaslight 06-15-2012 04:42 PM

I feel your pain.

I stayed up all night because I got up really last yesterday, there's a lot of sport on today so I'm hoping to gamble through my Saturday and make some spending money.

fatbandit 06-18-2012 03:52 AM

doctors today. if i can get signed off work for a bit, i will maybe jizz a little bit haha :) proper fed up of that place

FunkMetalBass 06-18-2012 01:13 PM

So, how do you guys get a good distortion that sounds good with another distortion? I recently started recording some tracks and realize that the distortion I preferred for the bass sounds like shit with the distortion I used for the guitar. I'm doing it all with VSTs at the moment, so maybe I should just use similar distortion settings for both? Also, any recommended VSTs other than Amplitube? (looking at you, Joel)

In other news, I'm bottling an oaked porter this weekend and brewing up three new beers this week - a light summer ale, my chocolate oatmeal stout, and an imperial peach wheat beer (9.0% ABV). I'm rather excited for that last one. You guys should come over and drink. :)

BenJammin 06-18-2012 03:14 PM

I would love to. But borders, work, etc.

FunkMetalBass 06-19-2012 09:12 AM

Also: excuses...
