I hear that Bruce has a cold that night, so his singing wasn't on top form.

RiR > DotR, despite DotR having Dance of Death, Journeyman and Paschendale.

RiR has The Wickerman, a far better version Fear Of The Dark, Blood Brothers, Dream Of Mirrors, The Evil That Men Do, Sign Of The Cross and The Clansman.

Incidentally, I love Bruce's intro to The Clansman:

"This is a song set in medieval Scotland, it's called The Clansman. This song is about freedom! Something that should be familiar to you all. But which sometimes is not."

I'm listening to it now, and Blaze's mournful intro is simply breathtaking.
I've always loved that song.

I just love the transition from the intro into the heavy part:)

one of my favourite Blaze-era songs. i love the version on As Live As It Gets as well.

Mr_Bounce 03-06-2006 07:16 PM

Speaking of Blaze, I haven't heard his parts in Iron Maiden very much, but I checked out a couple of his solo albums (Tenth Dimension, 2002; Blood & Belief, 2004) and they're really quite good. Obviously nothing like Iron Maiden or anything like that, but still solid.

Yes, he's more of a Doom/traditional style now.
His voice is very dark and brooding, like Messiah of Candlemass.

I really love his solo work, Silicon Messiah and as live as it gets are excellent.

Mr_Bounce 03-06-2006 10:01 PM

Yeah, that's some good stuff too. I prefer Bruce's voice (by a lot :D), but Blaze is definitely very skilled.

ashman 03-07-2006 08:20 AM
Daves solo on The Number of the Beast, its easily one of Maidens best live songs, but I just wanted him to do something!
Surely you can all hear the difference in Bruce's voice when you compare DOTR to RiR? Dont get me wrong Bruce is an amazing singer and just as good a song writer, I saw Maiden at Sheffield on that tour and Bruce had a far better night then he did on the recording of DOTR, the scream during Wrathchild is always a tell-tale sign I think
I was at Sheffield, it was amazing, Daves solo to NOTB was superb (well I was stood like 5ft away, so I saw everything :p ). They should have recorded that night, it was excellent...

i could maybe come up from Newcastle to Glasgow to see them, then see them at Newcastle (i'm hopefully gonna be at uni at Durham).

my life has a meaning again :).

Uni will probably finish for Christmas on the 18th, or soon after anyway, so i can earn the money back over Chrismas :)

Newcastle will be 12 minutes on the train from Uni...

I cant wait 'till they come to the US. Seeing them live would OWN. I have to convince my parents (im 15) to buy them now. Then wait for them to come on sale, becuase it will take a few days, and from the looks of things, I wont have that much time.

UK tickets go on sale on the 17th.
i don't know how much of a US tour they'll actually do, i don't know how much of one they did for Dance of Death.

The Fonz 03-07-2006 03:53 PM

I was thinking one summer, either next, or the one after, me and my friend should fly to europe for a few days when theres ther most concentration of concerts. Beauce a)europe is cool and b) Theres much more good metal concerts over there.
Of course it wont happen, but still.

As a no0b to this thread, i guess i'll just say that one of the coolest part of iron maiden songs, is the epicness of them. Like "the trooper" "Pascendale".. etc.

They better do a US tour. Do you think they will after last years Ozzfest incident?

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is quickly becomming my favorite Maiden album.

Few major cities I see. That means that they may come to New York.

The Clairvoyant is my favorite from 7th son.

That and Infinite Dreams.

the_uber_penguin 03-07-2006 05:06 PM

I love the album as a whole, I don't really listen to individual songs.

Moonchild, Infinite Dreams and Seventh Son are my favourite individual songs though, with The Evil That Men Do not far behind.
