Lessons cost too much here, 20 something dollars for 30 minutes. All my guitar teacher taught me last year were Nirvana and Metallica songs.

You just have to take control of the lessons - if you want to learn theory, ask to be taught theory. If you just need help tabbing out something, ask for that. Last lesson I had, my teacher assisted me in tabbing out Catamenia - Iced Over.

I feel no need to get into the butt seks argument :)
I don't have lessons no, I've always been self taught.

You should just do what I do when it comes to building a certain technique, take a bunch of riffs from songs you like, and practise them. Crap like Necrophagist and Slayer, Dragonforce, Lamb of God, when you can get them up to speed, you haven't just improved your rhythms skills, but can play along with your favourtie songs too!!
(Looks like Circle the Drain has the right idea too).

Get them all in one big powertab/guitar pro file, print it out and practise them all, that's what I'm doing.
hey thanks... i never had this idea. i will try this out :thumb:

thats what i realized yesterday at my first lesson. first he taught me theory - thats what i wanted to. then i said its enough and we started to jam around... nothing special, he showed me some things and so. after some 3hours he said 30€ and i
so the next time i have to tell him, what i want to learn and for how long ... the problem is only that i have to pay it ... my parents don't support me.

It's a pity that your parents don't support you; mine sure do have a hell of a lot of support for my little brother, though I have to make my own way in it for the most part.

well, it depends if your parents have the money. playing guitar is a hobby for me and i study in vienna and live 250km away from my parents. they support me in studying and life (with money if i need), but they know that guitar is only a hobby and therefore i have to pay it from my own pocket.
its ok for me ... but i think i need a job :/

i too have to pay my whole equipment self.

I do as well - the only musical equipment my parents have bought was a bass guitar starter kit when I was just starting up (although that was a birthday present)

blue3 04-09-2006 05:49 PM

My first 2 guitars were presents. I had to buy my own amp that's why it's shitty.

Ah...sad that some dumbass teacher turned you off to the whole idea of professional instruction - it's helped me tons.

I don't think your parents were taking full advantage of the chance for you to become a guitar god. That is what I would have told them. Also this, " When you are retired and sitting on your a$$ at home and running out of money, I will be living in a mansion. This is, if you pay for my lessons, this way I could give you millions of dollars because I will be the redemption of Dimebag." BAM, beeyatch:smash:

Hahahaha

95% of metal SUPERSTARS don't have the money to live in mansions. It's just that kind of genre.

What album out of these should I get Follow the Reaper, HC deathroll, Hatebreeder

umosay 04-10-2006 02:34 AM

Nah, Hatebreeder closely followed by the other 2

New name Spiraldown 04-10-2006 02:40 AM

Thanks, I am planning to get all of them as well

metalhead_matt 04-10-2006 02:41 AM

New name Spiraldown 04-10-2006 02:43 AM

Do you think I should get Are you dead yet or not?

Apocalyptic Raids 04-10-2006 02:44 AM

No.
What album out of these should I get Follow the Reaper, HC deathroll, Hatebreeder
Well.

Hatebreeder has the neo-classical riffage as does Something Wild. Those two are the least heavy and most like power metal.

Hatecrew Deathroll is the heaviest along with Are You Dead Yet?.

Follow The Reaper is basically a hybrid of HB & HCDR.
FTR also has the best keyboards of the albums.

Hightlights:
HB: Warheart, Silent Night Bodom Night, Bed Of Razors and Towards Dead End
SW: Touch Like Angel Of Death, Lake Bodom and Red Light In My Eyes 1 & 2
HCDR: Needled 24/7, Chokehold, Bodom Beach Terror and Triple Corpse Hammerblow
FTR: Bodom After Midnight, Everytime I die, Mask Of My Sanity and Kissing The Shadows

In closing, all CoB albums are great.

If you want heavy,
Get AYDY & HCDR

If you want more classical riffage and "touche", get Hatebreeder and SW.

Follow The Reaper is right inbetween style wise.

Get em all!
Do you think I should get Are you dead yet or not?
Well, what songs have you heard and liked by CoB?

Knowing your favs would help me point you in the right direction!

metalhead_matt 04-10-2006 02:47 AM

what was the first bodom song you guys heard?

It was Lake Bodom, I think. Either that or Bed Of Razors.

metalhead_matt 04-10-2006 02:53 AM

first song i heard was children of decadence, i couldnt believe how good it was, so i went and got the follow the reaper album. i think that's why FTR is still my favourite album, because of how awestruck i was when listening to each song.
