I'm still obsessed with that band :D

I got my friend into them too. It's pretty cool.

Only listen to Terrifyer and Prowler In The Yard though, the earlier stuff isn't that good :/

"Some of you having been emailing about the "Schism" DVD that's being advertised on several websites with a release date of December 20th. To answer your questions as to whether or not I can confirm this, the answer is that, while I can't confirm that EXACT date, the plan is to release a DVD featuring the videos for Schism and Parabol/Parabola with added extras (more details later) sometime in DECEMBER of this year. So, the December 20th date looks pretty good for the Sam Goody's type chains, and when more specifis become available to me, I'll post this additional info in the news section. PLEASE NOTE that this is NOT the (much anticipated) Tool live DVD, which will be released at some point, although exactly when is still a great unknown."

At least it's some news, even if it's crappy news. :)

misunderstood 11-10-2005 04:28 PM

yeah, no kidding.

Kage 11-10-2005 05:14 PM

A Schism/Parabol/a DVD? Big deal. Let's get to the good stuff, ya know?

Random thought:
Billy Budd is quite possibly the worst novel I've ever read.

What's it about?

misunderstood 11-10-2005 05:29 PM

The most 'exciting' part was probably where he mentions that the actual live dvd will be released at some point. I was starting to lose hope already.

Kage 11-10-2005 05:34 PM

It's about this completely innocent, good-looking sailor whom everybody likes...except (the plot thickens!) of course, this one guy (Claggart) who is jealous of his good looks and charm. Now, Budd's innocence also leads him to be being very naieve, and never realizes that Claggart dislikes him through Claggart's subtle hints. Anyway, Budd is perfect except for one flaw: when he gets flustered or angry, he stutters severely. So Claggart, determined to extract revenge on Budd for nothing in particular, accuses Budd of rousing mutiny on the ship. When Budd is confronted, he is so angry and confused that he can't even speak, so he lashes out and kills Claggard. Despite the captain's love for Budd, he declares that he should be hung, blah blah blah.

And there's all this very thin, weak allegory to the story of Jesus Crist and Adam's fall from the garden of Eden. But, like I said, it's all very weak to me. And the author's explorations into the "nature of evil" through Claggart are so weak and un-insightful that it's laughable.

Magicaltroll 11-10-2005 06:05 PM

Hmm, sounds pretty bad.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-10-2005 07:14 PM

So the Schism DVD isn't the same as the long-awaited live DVD? :upset: Lame. Still, new Tool excites me.

Has anyone in here read The Plague by Albert Camus? I am right now, and so far, it's pretty good.

paganman7 11-10-2005 07:25 PM

A DVD...with two video? You've got to be kidding me. The band decides to honor us with a $20 DVD containing two videos? Here's a thought: if the band wants to respect their loyal fans, maybe try releasing some information about the new album? I'm not talking about trade secrets, but maybe an estimate of a release date, or even recording status.

I've been a loyal Tool fan for many years, but this is just absurd and, quite frankly, disrespectful.

Bolded text means it is rather important.

Futuro 11-10-2005 07:40 PM

Meh. I have both videos on my computer. They better pull something off to make me buy it.

Other news/ Collides first live DVD is coming out soon :D

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-10-2005 07:42 PM

Collide, describe. How'd you download the videos on your fag connection? (and where from?)

Futuro 11-10-2005 07:46 PM
Collide, describe. How'd you download the videos on your fag connection? (and where from?)
 I extracted from a cd my friend made for me (He has a pimp connection)

Collide is this electronic, trippy band. I wouldn's say all there "Songs" are "Songs" But they are awsome to listen to. Danny carey played on a track for the latest "Normal" cd.

BlindWriting 11-10-2005 07:47 PM

You know, I could make a post about how displeased I am about how the nearest new Tool release is the Schism DVD, but I'd be contradicting myself because I know I'm going to buy it.

Whats the name of the track he played on? I'll search for it on Soulseek

BW- This is true, although I'm probably a lot happier about the release of the DVD than most Tool fans, because I've not seen one Tool music video. :-D

Also whenever Karen was mentioned on the Tool newsletters, That is the singer of collide.

The dude that programs the music for Triad, is also in collide (His name is Statik or sumthing)

Haha. I most likely won't, because I'm really strapped for expendable cash in the wake of me buying a new guitar and saving up for a new amp. Unless it's something great, I won't be able to spend the money on it. As for the actual live DVD, I'll run to the store the day it comes out.

misunderstood 11-10-2005 09:30 PM

I've seen both videos as well and I'm more than sure I'll still end up getting it anyway. Who knows, since it's coming out around the holidays, I might just end up asking for it. Anything "new" is always good.

ThePatient 11-10-2005 10:40 PM

Anyone think they like money?

I was going to ask if any good news has come out since I've been working/schooling non-stop for two weeks, but it seems my question has been answered.

BetweenTheEchoes 11-10-2005 11:26 PM

Damn capitalism! I say Tool goes Socialist and just hands out albums to all their true fans. IE those who realize Eulogy is about Jesus not Bill Hicks, and that the lyrics to Reflection are a direct result of Maynard's shroom tripping.

What in the hell are you talking about?

Cravinov13 11-11-2005 01:04 PM

I liked A Perfect Circle more then Tool for a long time because Maynard's voice stood out more in APC. But I've grown a lot on Tool since then and can't wait for their new album to come out in 2006.

My favorite album is Aenima by far.

Darkness 11-11-2005 04:00 PM

I'll still end up buying this Schism DVD, as pathetic as it is... :upset:

You are a moron.

Besides, I've never known of anyone who thought Eulogy was about Bill Hicks; most commonly it's referred to L. Ron Hubbard, although I have heard the Jesus idea.

But that doesn't matter, because the lyrics are open to interpretation, so shove a sock down your throat.

Indeed. The DVD could be $5, and I'd still miffed that the band presume that they are honoring us with a DVD with two videos. After months of speculation about releases of various items, they "quench" our curiosity with two videos? I'm less than impressed.

And to your comment that if I don't like it, I don't have to buy it: that's profoundly suggestive. I hadn't actually believed that I had an option of not purchasing this nonsense until you said something. Thanks mate, you've changed my life.

Please don't get me wrong. I've been a huge fan for over a decade. It's just frustrating to be patronized by a band whose talent you respect so much.

Dude3 11-11-2005 07:32 PM

I'm not planning on getting this dvd at all. Same with the live one, although I'll probably rent it.

I'm at home on a Friday night while all of my other friends are at either a party or a concert. This sucks. Although, I am making some good process on the first song I'm writing for my band. I went down from Drop-d to Drop-c in the tunings. I don't know why, but the tone you get when you play drop-c type stuff is just awesome to me. Its basically a metalcore song too.

I'm thinking more progressively in writing style, and not necessarily having a chorous to the song. Maybe a few similar melodies here and there guitar wise, but you know what I mean. Its much harder writing in this style, but the outcome should be good. I'm now writing the breakdown(1st one at least) which is going good, but I'm lost as to where to go after that. Mainly, I'm trying to decide if I should have a solo or not. I'm not sure if I should. This is friken hard to decide on. I used to be all about the solos, but now realized that a lot of them are just useless wankage that only takes away from the song. If I don't do a solo though, I'll probably put in some melodic guitar harmonies and the sort. I don't know. It'll probably come out completely different than I'm thinking.

I know how it is man, this is one of the only weekends I've got out of the house.
And Drop-C rules, it's what I use for Animal Corpse stuff.

And yeah, that style of writing is ALOT better, and more challenging for the musician too, and I like that.

I'm interested in hearing the song when it gets recorded.

Adam Jones is GOD 11-11-2005 08:46 PM

Im really suprised there's so much negative reaction to this DVD news. Did we all miss the 'added extras' bit? I would think there must be something of worthy note there, ranging from behind the scenes pictures of a shoot, to a Merkaba style track. Who knows.....

Plus im quite happy to get the full Tool video collection (legally) on my shelf, so I have no problem with buying it.

When they don't elaborate on what the "added extras" are, it usually means it's some interview with the band answering questions we've all heard the answers to before. Especially when they say NEW TOOL DVD WITH PARABOLA VIDEO and some added extras.

This song probably won't be too progy now that I get further into it. Maybe I'll save that for some other songs. I don't know, I'll see where it goes.

Right now I'm deciding if I should put the breakdown after the chorous(I probably won't actually repeat the chorous at all, but its kinda catchy like a chorous so I'm calling it that), or put another verse(a more melodic one) before that.

I'd say the song is somewhat Unearth style. Well, just metalcore style really. And I'm still wondering if I should do a solo, and if I do, where to put it. Hmmmm...

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-11-2005 10:02 PM

I'd like it if a Tool pulled "Dredg" and released it as a promo.

Then again, Tool could probably do with a little less promotion, considering the majority of their fanbase. :p

Catching on with new Tool news is confusing!

So, am i right here...
...The Live DVD is still coming out, but no date has been given, unlike the Schism DVD, that kinda has a release date-ish, but it's gonna suck.
Am I on the right track here?

Exactly.
