Gav, that's so much more god damn work than just going outside.

Not if you live on the upper half of a 12 story building. That can be a hassle.

cobert 09-20-2006 10:45 PM

Waiting is about a 9/10. Full Collapse is probably a 10/10 if Ive ever heard one. Best album ever.

WATT < Waiting = ACBTLD < Full Collapse

Also, I officially love Hot Water Music.

srt-4 09-20-2006 10:56 PM

i can't rank them, they're all unique and amazing. full collapse is my favorite, with a 10/10, but all the other ones are pretty much 9.9s. waiting, of course, doesn't have the maturity of the other ones, but the emotion on it is just so powerful that, for me, it puts it right up there with the rest of them as near pefect.

I know. We usually go outside about 100 feet in the woods right next to my dorm but during the winter no one wants to smoke outside or WILL want to smoke outside. Also, after you're done smoking, you're already back in the dorm so you can put on music and just chill.
New Fear Before is pwn.
Yeah, I'm starting to love it, too.

Hai Emoz

Working on my project some more, picking out the songs. I've got a list of what I'm covering and the bands I'll be playing. I want opinions, song suggestions, or if you think a band better exemplifies what I'm talking about.

Basic Hardcore-punk: Minor Threat - Out of Step
Hardcore-Punk evolves into emo/emocore: Embrace - Dance of Days (using Embrace because of the easy Ian connection)
Emo becomes more evolved: Moss Icon
Chaotic Emo/Screamo San Diego Scene: Antioch Arrow or Indian Summer
Midwest/90s/Indie Emo: Cap'n Jazz or Boys Life
Modern Emo/Screamo: Saetia - Some Natures Catch No Plagues or Venus and Bacchus
Modern Emo/Screamo: Circle Takes the Square
Foreign Emo: Amanda Woodward or Orchid
Local Emo: Comadre or Funeral Diner

I'll also be covering why I think MTV has their definition and how emo kids like you guys (and me) deal with this, maybe throw out Skramz as a joke, maybe even a Gaeshia clip if I still have the song.

bottlerocket 09-21-2006 06:48 AM

Midwest/90s/Indie Emo: Cap'n Jazz or Boys Life

Definitely include Rockets and Blue Lights instead of Boy's Life, I say.

Orchid isn't foregin; they're from Amherst, Massachusetts. Do La Quiete or something similar.

Saetia isn't really too modern since they broke up c. 2001. I agree with CTTS but do Ampere in place of Saetia.

lol @ Gashetia

Indian Summer is not chaotic. Do Heroin. Foreign emo should be covered by the awesomness that is La Quiete.

bottlerocket 09-21-2006 08:55 AM

La Quiete, Belle Epoque, Daitro, Love Like...Electrocution, Raein, etc....one of those.

I'd go with La Quiete.

-Gav

Luxor 09-21-2006 09:25 AM

Nobody is going to want to listen to Ampere, La Quiete or Antioch Arrow. That's not something you just jump right into.

bottlerocket 09-21-2006 09:28 AM

^ Yeah, I agree, but Nick wants to show different types of emo; it's not about whether or not they actually like the music. If they do, sweet, but if not, well, whatever. In that case, it's about the grade.

I totally agree with you, though.

Brain Toad 09-21-2006 10:32 AM

I'm hoping to get people into the music, but playing 10-20 seconds of a song isn't going to do that, so I hope my actual speech will. I'm still trying to figure out how to squeeze all these clips in. I'll probably eliminate Saetia all together as well as foreign emo.

I jumped right into Orchid, then again I also listened to grind exclusively for about a year before I discovered emo and screamo.

They have a new band out called The Drafts I think..

And its:
WATT > Waiting = Full Collapse > ACBTLD =/= 5 Stories Falling.

And what about Envy for the forgein emo?

Whenever I played emo for my speech, and everyone got upset and told me to turn it off.

It was lame.

Yeah, people can be fuckheads, don't worry about it. Let them listen to crappy music, that's their choice.

bottlerocket 09-21-2006 03:47 PM

Crappy music is subjective.

Emo isn't the only "good" genre of music out there. I'm a huge jazz buff.

I know it's not, emo isn't the only thing I listen to. But I'm assuming the majority of them listen to music like P!ATD and have blurred visions of what good music actually is.

bottlerocket 09-21-2006 03:56 PM

You can't really have a "blurred vision" of an opinion. If they like P!ATD then they like them.

This is really not worth getting into an argument over. I'll just leave it at that.

You hate FBTMOF. I bet you'd like the song "Should Have Stayed in the Shallows," though. It's got a siqq breakdown with a cool time sig.

That's fine, I just didn't want to cause an argument because people seem a lot more pissy on this forum these days.

bottlerocket 09-21-2006 04:17 PM

Nah, not me. I'm chilllllll.

My friends and I are blazing tonight before we see some Emmy-winning jazz band playing here at the campus center. We're using the 2 piece waterbong we made from stolen brand new Erlenmeyer flasks we nabbed from the chemistry lab. We built it ourselves. Werddd.
