Spheres is alright but it's pretty much a watered down version of better jazz influenced DM bands, it has some great moments though.

pestilence rules
First time listening to Pestilence's Spheres.

I'm can't decide if I like it or not. I love jazz influenced DM. Atheist is my favorite DM band, but I don't know about the Pestilence album. It's almost like they try too hard to be technical. Hopefully it'll grow on me.

I'll just stick with Consuming Impulse until then.
One day I'll pick it up, but I don't expect it to live up to Consuming Impulse or Testimony. How far removed from Testimony is it? Is it more in the vein of Atheist, perhaps? Or Cynic?
this, its much better when a band has thier own sound and is good because of the music they write not becuase of what they look like or what status-quo they have
True dat.

I think that some people are really quick to dismiss a band that does have a gimmick though. Like Mudvayne aren't as bad as their stupid costumes make them seem.

Having gimmicks isn't the problem itself, but reliance on gimmicks is. Even Iron Maiden for example have a bit of a gimmick in Eddie.

That's totally different though. Iron Maiden created a solid sound and came up with a "mascot" of sorts. Without the trademark sound they couldn't fall back on Eddie to hold their popularity.

Yeah I didn't think Eddie was as huge a part of the band as that. They music is highly influential.

I'm sieg heiling Vomitory's Raped in their own blood.

That's exactly my point.

I suppose it's not exactly a gimmick though.

Solitary 04-09-2008 12:24 PM

I didn't believe it at first but it's true.

http://www.celticfrost.com/vcf/index.html

Had it been 8 days ago I'd have passed it off as April fool's. But anyone who's read "Are You Morbid" would know that Celtic Frost has been shakey all the way throughout. This is sad news.

Dimmu Burger 04-09-2008 12:43 PM

Yeah he should post something saying he fired the whole band and is getting a new one, so that Celtic Frost will still be Celtic Frost.

Cold Lake 2?

Although Tom is an essential part of Celtic Frost, so is Martin. This will be the end of Celtic Frost...

pate 04-09-2008 01:07 PM

Maybe it will blow over and Tom will reconsider.
