Dr. Jake Destructo 11-03-2005 10:39 PM

Yeah, I went to Canada for the Buchart Gardens.

 Freaking Grandparents, I tell you what...

Darkness 11-03-2005 10:41 PM

No matter what you guys say, Canada > USA. Easily.

:)

Did you get to ride an Eskimo?

Moses 11-03-2005 10:46 PM

Turns out I did do some more vox but they sound really nasal because of my stuffy nose so bear with me.

EDIT: I changed my mind, I don't want the vocals to sound like that.

No doubt. I will always remember when I went out for a pancake breakfast during one of my visits to the poor ole US of A and the only thing they had sitting on the table in the restaurant was corn syrup.

A deprived bunch, those Americans. Not to mention the gaping chasm in quality between our beer and theirs, but that's another debate entirely and I should try my best not to throw this thread too far off course.

Let's not play that game, now.

So, I'm defending Tool in IAJP's Defend A Band Competition. Did anyone here happen to see the last one, so I know what format to write it in?

You mean the one that supposedly happened a while ago? Nope I never saw it. Good luck, though.

EDIT: Oh, I didn't even realize how these were going to work. I thought it'd be kind of a back and forth argument between the two users or something, but I realized it's just a long write-up to defend them. Should be interesting.

dUSK 11-04-2005 12:28 PM

Thats my problem. I'm basically doing a short write up, but then it becomes more of a short 'whore your artist' style write up, instead of a debate. I think I'll leave it until I see someone else post thiers before I go all out with it.

Kage 11-04-2005 12:36 PM

Yeah, that's what I would do. Good luck with it, though. I'm interested to see how it all works out.

So you basically have to defend Tool against another band? Which band are you facing?

Six Foot Revolver 11-04-2005 12:38 PM

I think it is impossible for me to do write a write up on a band and not be unbiased :(.

dUSK 11-04-2005 12:41 PM

I'm pitted against Machine Head (Wish) in the first round. I'm currently listening to them for the first time so that I actually know what I'm 'arguing' against.

Jake, that's also one of my problems. With the reputation of T:rolleyes::rolleyes:L fanboys around here, I don't want to make anything any worse.

kurrpt 11-04-2005 12:43 PM

what is it Gmac?

kurrpt 11-04-2005 12:48 PM

so, in essence, you try to get others to like the band you whore....

Futuro 11-04-2005 12:49 PM

That is a pretty cool idea actually (The thread) You can probably take a guess and say they are gonna say something bout Adam Jones's guitar playing. So add something smart about that in the argument, writeup, whatever it is.

Adam Jones is GOD 11-04-2005 01:00 PM

For any bad point on AJ, i've got 100 pluses.

Hell, even if im forced back to using his work on Jurassic Park, ill defend him to the death

what what what!

you mean special FX? or music?

lucky luciano 11-04-2005 01:32 PM

special fx

Adam Jones is GOD 11-04-2005 01:32 PM

Special effects. He worked on the dinosaurs. THough his cooler work was the spaceship in Predator 2

I watch crappy movies when there's a litte thing like that in. Not that either of them are bad

repcak 11-04-2005 01:55 PM

if adam jones would write shred-solo, he would play in a band called dream theater :D

Futuro 11-04-2005 02:19 PM
if adam jones would write shred-solo, he would play in a band called dream theater
I do like Dream theater. They are one of the only bands that do fast solos that I like. But I couldn't see Adam jones playng with them :0

I hope you'er not referring to those in this thread. Were not like the fanboys you'd find on a real Tool forum. :p

Agreed. Adam's rhythmic riffs are much better than any shred solo any day.

Kage 11-04-2005 06:58 PM

If Adam wrote his guiar riffs any other way, I wouldn't listen to Tool. His style is what clenches Tool's sound.

Anyone check out that Cult of Luna stuff I sent?

Britton 11-04-2005 07:16 PM

I'm a jerk...

can someone send me Latrerlus?

Daven 11-04-2005 07:54 PM

I can send, but only the song. If you want the whole cd i can send you most of it. But not Faip De Oiad, MAntra and Eon Blue Apocalypse.

milkman41 11-06-2005 12:11 AM

hey everybody, I'm not new here, I usually just lurk and don't contribute or anything, but, as douchebaguettey as it might sound, I lost my copy of Aenima, so I was wondering if somebody could possibly upload it and send it to me.

my email is sparklepinknick@gmail.com, and this would seriously be like insanely appreciated.

pce out.

oh, and tool is awesome.

Moses 11-06-2005 12:17 AM
Agreed. Adam's rhythmic riffs are much better than any shred solo any day.
If Adam did shred, I'm sure he'd make it fit well. He's not self indulgent and he'd only shred to improve the song so if he thought it would improve the song I think he'd do it to the best of his ability.

Kage 11-06-2005 12:23 AM

"Shredding" and "self-indulgent" are synonymous.

BlindWriting 11-06-2005 12:26 AM

I honestly don't know where all this dislike for shredding comes from.

Like any musical technique, it works if done well.

Moses 11-06-2005 12:27 AM
"Shredding" and "self-indulgent" are synonymous.
Only if you think of it that way. I think alot of the solos that Jeff Loomis and Steve Smyth do on This Godless Endeavor aren't that self-indulgent but they are hard stuff, too.

Same with Debussy or Chopin, would you call them self-indulgent?

Kage 11-06-2005 12:28 AM

I stand by that shredding is self-indulgent, in any form. Whether it sounds good or not is another question. Mostly it doesn't, sometimes it can.

Generally, I've never liked shredding on a guitar. It just doesn't sound good to me.

Moses 11-06-2005 12:33 AM

The sound of a thousand high notes going through my ears a second is almost theraputic to me. Rusty Cooley, while being the most self-indulgent guitarist to ever walk the earth, does some cool hypnotic things with 2-string sweeps.

Kage 11-06-2005 12:36 AM

Well, you just proved my point then. He's self-indulgent, but that doesn't mean it sounds bad. For me, I usually can't stand shredding guitar (Nevermore often being an exception :)).

Moses 11-06-2005 12:38 AM

On Enemies of Reality they got way too technical with the solo's even though they have some awesome riffs. They really saved their career with the new album.
