Anxious 03-29-2009 03:23 PM

I've hated Where the Wild Things Are since I was a kid.

YourBiggestFan 03-29-2009 05:10 PM

I just think it's pathetic that hollywood is turning to old children's books for inspiration. Like, really??? Where the Wild Things Are? It looks cool, but jesus.

Oh wait, nvm, Cat In The Hat was such a success.

Liebensaft 03-29-2009 05:29 PM

Where the Wild Things Are was easily my favorite children's book and I'm pretty sure I've read it or had it read to me about 400 times. And the movie comes out the day after my birthday. I'm pretty pleased.

this is spike jonze though, you can trust the man with anything

BleepBoop 03-29-2009 09:12 PM

The Hungry Caterpillar is where its at when it comes to children's books.

As far as modern ones go, you can't go wrong with the Charlie and Lola series.

Liebensaft 03-30-2009 03:27 AM

Should I go see HEALTH at the coolest and most intimate local venue Wednesday night for $8? What I've heard is super cool. y/n?

Also of note and really cool, Jamie Stewart is playing there in a few weeks, followed by Joe Lally. That should be gnar.

(*The Noonward Race*) 03-30-2009 04:26 AM

you should probably go home between those shows

ATM 03-30-2009 07:22 AM

Health are sweet live.

perriwinkle 03-30-2009 09:25 AM

yea i wanna see Health live... i almost drove from Blacksburg to Baltimore for them but none of my friends wanted to go so i had no ride :/ fortunately i have a car at school now. im lookin forward to hearin their new album.

my friend put up a video from my band's show on Saturday night, apparently he caught the whole show, its the first time we've ever had a Grapes performance recorded.. lookin forward to seein the rest. he put up our fast block, which consists of three songs starting with our classic:

Kill the Slug

Pour the salt
That's how you kill the slug
Turn it inside out
That's how you know it's dead

Kill the slug
Kill the slug
Kill the slug
Kill the slug

hahahah anyways i thought some of you guys might be interested in seein this. the rest of our set was more noise and doom metal, while this is more thrash / hardcore.

ATM 03-30-2009 11:46 AM

I'll check it out.

Dude, now that you have a car you should come check out some of the shows I put on. Friday is Unorthodox, a legendary Maryland doom metal band. Saturday is a freestyle battle/performance and Sunday is Screen Vinyl Image and Teething Veils. Screen Vinyl Image are really weird but sweet. Monday we are having the Young Widows come perform a short set.

Bread and Faxes 03-30-2009 04:47 PM

I'm going to go see Animal Collective on May 10th in Baltimore. Anyone going to be there?

kitsch 03-30-2009 06:24 PM

i wish i was

Kill the slug
Once when I was little I asked my dad if I could pour salt on a slug, he got mad and asked "I don't know, can I pour battery acid on you?"

A few years later I asked him I could shave my pubic hairs (I was going to do it regardless but I was curious as to what he'd say) and he said absolutely not.

Animal Collective play in Philly a week or two before I go home for the summer and play in Tucson a week or so after I leave. So lame.

I'm pretty certain I'm gonna go to Health. Everything I've heard about their live performance sounds awesome and I listened to them earlier today, reaffirming my initial suspicion that they're cool. Does anyone have their remix album? I'm having trouble finding it and I hear it's good.

Bread and Faxes 03-31-2009 10:37 AM

well, I'm trying to go to a lot of shows this year. Anyone have any good festivals?

Bonnaroo is already lined up.

That would be awesome if that goes ahead. I've given my 2 cents in the thread anyways.

YourBiggestFan 03-31-2009 02:48 PM

I'm seeing the AnCos whenever they come to Austin in June. Should be pretty good. Maybe. I've heard many drastically different opinions on their live show.

Liebensaft 04-01-2009 06:25 PM

It's loud. They played We Tigers. It was cool.

Gnarmageddon 04-01-2009 07:18 PM

Joe, Health is gooooooood.

Liebensaft 04-01-2009 09:17 PM

****, it's in 45 minutes. Go? yes? No?

sgrevs 04-01-2009 10:21 PM

nedchambers 04-02-2009 04:24 AM

i saw them a couple of weeks ago. played a great 15-minute version of Fireworks.

more to the point... I'm seeing Flying Lotus tonight in London with Zomby and Kode9. and if that wasn't already a killer lineup... it's in this club.
I hope you went.
I went. It was really good, but way too short. The venue it was in is definitely my favorite in the area. The opening dude was called Pictureplane and it was pretty cool. He had a bunch of electronic gear (keyboard/synth, thing with sound effects programmed to buttons, pedals, etc.), a microphone, and an iPod and did some kind of mash-up stuff with pop dancey beats. It was fun but seemed old after a little bit. It was still cool. HEALTH slayed. It was awesome. I only wish they played longer.

Time 04-02-2009 06:29 PM

so Fred Phelps might be coming to protest at a local high school because it's named after a gay man (Walt Whitman). awesome

Glitterati 04-02-2009 06:45 PM

Tight. You should go and steal his cane or his oxygen mask or do something sexually inappropriate with someone of your own gender in front of him.

edit - reading wiki article on Fred:

asdf 04-05-2009 08:11 PM

So, I'm considering going to Pitchfork Fest.

If only to at least see The Jesus Lizard.

Bukowski 04-05-2009 09:42 PM

anyone want a ticket for ATP: The Fans Strike Back?

I bought one but just received my exam timetable and have an exam during it so it needs selling... it cost £160 but I'm selling it for anything above £130 (possibly even £130 itself!).

With bands like Sleep, Electric Wizard, Grouper and the Jesus Lizard playing, you know, you should go. So plz buy my ticket!

Seriously though if anyone wants it i really need to sell it.

asdf 04-05-2009 09:48 PM

If I lived in the UK I'd take that off your hands. Good luck!

Bukowski 04-05-2009 09:52 PM

haha thanks.

I was mainly going for TJL too. You should go to Pitchfork fest asdf! I can't believe I'm gonna miss them live, I would very much like to inflict horrific pain on whoever set my exam dates.
