So using roots = bass? Nah, don't think so.
And if you think he doesn't use roots, then listen again. He doesn't entirely in Sanitarium, Orion, Seek and Destroy and a couple of others, but he does in most every other song he played with them. To me, he wasn't a lead player, he was an example of just another way the bass could be played. Especially at the time, he was a unique player. He still has a unique sound, even today. |

I'm aware of his tendencies to not stick to the norm. It's fair enough that you think he was an inventive bass player, I think that too, but I still think he would have been more suited as a Lead Guitarist. It's perhaps the fact that he had that tendency, that he created a unique style on Bass. |
I agree that roots are often what the bass plays, hell, I should know!
However, I think its unfair to say 'you don't play roots, we're not letting you do bass' (bit more extreme than what you were trying to say, I know...). Dirk lance in Incubus played mostly interesting basslines, not roots. To say that he would have been best suited to a different instrument would be silly. Its the input that you get from different types of people that evolves the instrument. A drummer, for example, may add a more rhyhmic feel, while a guitarist is more melodic perhaps. Cliff also had a classical background. I doubt sincerely he only played shred bass. |
It's the band that Jason was in before he joined metallica,It's supposed to be bass fueled thrash metal, I've never heard it so i dont know if that is true, so has anyone ever heard them and are they any good?
Flotsam are pretty good thrash Ron was treated very unfairly in Metallica, i've read what he has to say |
Hm. I use AIM (its chris6mm) too if that's any better for you. If not, let ThrashMaster upload it :thumb:

here ya go: The Mechanix |
Uhm, he will have played stuff like Hit the Lights pretty much as it is on Kill Em All I should think. In an interview, he said he doesn't play bass anymore, and he's not very good. I don't think he went any firther with bass after they replaced him TBH.
|
god Metallica has got to be the most kick *** Metal/Rock band ever. =D My favorite song is Leper Messiah..
But when they released St. Anger, it completely changed their styles I think. Should have kept the same but they're so original...that's what makes it good. |

So did Dave Mustaine make the mechanix before he came to metallica?or did he come to metallica then made it with james and lars?
|
Dave wrote The Mechanix when he was with Metallica. Once Dave left James changed the song a bit.
|
Changed for the better (in my god-like opinion).
here ya go:
The Mechanix
That's absolutely horrible  but then again it is a demo recorded in the early days... The vocals make the song sound so bad. Why is it tuned in F? I've found a live concert from '84 in Paris and everything is tuned to F...any reason?
Vocals on that sound **** to me, is that James singing?
Yes, yes it is. |
Changed for the better (in my god-like opinion).
I agree wow i haven't posted here in forever |
Metallica Kicks A** because A)They Rock B)They've lasted the test of time (23 Years of Rock) and C)They're Original

I'm pretty sure Dave wrote The Mechanix before he joined Metallica. Read the booklet in the remastered Killing Is My Business CD by Megadeth. He talks about it in there. |

Yeah he did, he added about 3 minutes to the song...I think the Version on the San Diego DVD is the link posted earlier. |

obviously you're new, lol. welcome to the forums i'm a little confused, so please don't flame me. I'm not really familiar with all of the tracks on Kill 'Em All (there are other albums I'd rather listen to) but I thought there wasn't a Mechanix. Isn't it named something different on KEA and then Megadeth had it as Mechanix? |
hey, what do they say right before the solo in "master of puppets" I'm thinking razor burn, freezer burn, hit me, or bring the noise, but I think ill ask the pros...
|
Is it just me or does it seem like we have 5 new posters come in here everyday and post "omg metallica rowx my wurld".
|
is it the rumored overload album?
better not be. load and reload suck nuts. and for that matter so does st. anger. it would be nice to see them make an album in the style of Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets. |
it's just you
to gecko, album it's "fix me," S&M it's "Fix me baby," and other various live concerts he might say other things, but mostly it's just fix me |

If you are expecting metallica to make something like mop or rtl, I think you should stop waiting for metallica's album. Metallica has evolved so much from those old days. I'll be happy whatever they release probably, as long as they stick to normal drums. Those drums in saint anger can get alittle annoying, but everything else is great imo. :thumb: |

The drums do get to me after awhile, but the riffs are incredible. I think the lyrics are pretty cool. The only thing I want out of this new album that I didn't get from St. Anger is solos. |
I would be a lot happier if the songs were a little bit less streched out. They felt like 4 minute songs lasting 6 and a half minutes, if you follow me.

Well thats basically what it was. And i wish that they weren as repetitive. |
That's my point. I don't want to hear the same riff over and over. The loss of dynamics (aka soft parts) really hurt it, though I'm not sure how they would fit in with the rest of St. Anger.

Anesthesia (Pulling-Teeth) 6. Whiplash 7. Phantom Lord 8. No Remorse 9. Seek and Destroy 10. Metal Militia I think that's track listing for Kill 'em All, maybe not though, it's just off the top of my head. Edit: Gocaps! Where's my review of Battery :( |
Yes, that is the track list, and yes, there WAS a Mechanix. It was Mechanix up until Dave left, then Metallica's version became the Four Horsemen with an added 3 minutes or so and the lyrics were totally changed. Dave's version in Megadeth was/is still his original version of Mechanix.
