Welcome to the forums :thumb:, yea, Metallica do rock...
Nobody's sure yet but most people here think it will be out in early 2006, possibly before then if we're lucky but it's difficult to know for sure...personally I don't think it will be their last. I reckon Metallica will come to the UK in June 2006 so they can play Download in support of the next album...whenever it comes out |
is it the rumored overload album?

Does Overload = ReReLoad? Oh fuck!
I hope it doesn't come out earlier :-/
...Why? |

I hope it doesn't come out unless they fire Lars (in my dreams), nothing against his drumming really he's not great but alright he did some pretty decent drumming on ...And justice but he seems to be making a lot of wrong decisions. It would be great if they'd get Tempesta or Lombardo. I also hope they get a new producer, which they said they'd never do. So yeah I hope it never comes out. It's a pitty how they are still making it with their long lost glory which really ended after ...And justice. Although they had some half decent stuff after that. St. anger was just sorrily a musical distasterpiece but thankfully it did do the good deed of turning my formerly blinded fan boy eyes onto other Thrash metal greats like Megadeth and Testament. |
I heard they got a new producer.
|
So the new album is called Overload?
Also, I once read that Trujillo really likes thrash and old-skool metal so he may bring a classic feel to their music. Hopefully this will be the case. |
SHOTGUN reviewing "To live is to die". I'll do it when i can be bothered... which funnily enough is not at 1 o'clock in the morning on a school night, this fact one might argue also renders this post completely pointless...
Just replying to this so you remember it :) |
Yay it feels soo good to be back!!!!!!! What happened to the reviews dude you were all like yea reviews yea real reviews i think you did 3 (wayyyyy better than mine on FTB though) and that was it so far......

Without Lars I highly doubt they would be as successful as they are now. Everyone else in the band was in previous bands before Metallica. But Metallica is Lars' first band ever, and they've sold about 100 million records. So I guess he has to be doing something right. |
At my school, people are telling me that Metallica is S hit. I know they are gods so people tell me things like that: " I'll make a top 100 list of bands that are better than Metallica". I hate that so do you have advice to reply do these insults to the greatest thrash metal band ever?

Yeah it's called good marketing which sometimes comes down on the music like with St. anger, they sold out to money a long time ago and since then their music has been going downhill and is now at an all time low. A good example of good marketing is britney spears or j.lo or some **** like that. |

Tell them to STFU. :thumb: |
^
Seriously how could they say that? If you can go 20 years with pretty much staying true to your original sound, then you have to be among the greatest rock legends of all time. |
If they didn't "sell out", I think they would just be denying themselves of bigger and better things. And honestly who wants to see 40 year olds head banging to old school thrash?
|
I'd just say "Okay." and then walk off, but that's cause id rather chop my arms off than exchange more than 2 sentences with any person in my school
|

Just ignore them or say STFU or ask "ok how many instruments can your favorite artist play"...they say like none you say"HA james hetfield can play every instrument in his band your favorite group doesnt even have instruments how is it music" then proceed to KICK THEIR AS S!!! :thumb: |
yeah it pisses me off when these kids are like "Dude, Blink-182 is like totally rad" and they talk shit about good bands that actually have talent.
|
It's their opinion, so i try to not care, but i do get a little bit irritated.

You just tell them hey they are among the biggest selling artists of all time, I mean although they did sell a lot more of their bad albums than their masterpieces but that's just cause they had to take a different road to get more money. I mean look at artists like Michael Jackson and Britney Spears they've sold a countless number of albums so they must be good. Face it man they lost the title of greatest thrash metal band ever when they went radio friendly and started kissin up to mtv. There are many many talented bands that are really underrated and just because some band sells the most records doesn't mean there's the best. Expand your musical mind. I'm not trying to be an ******* and I still think that Kill 'em all - ...And justice for all are among the greats. This is all my opinion and I'm am not trying to be an *******. Sorry if I sound like one. Wow sorry for making somebody read this. Just something I was pondering about. Seriously just krank up Kill 'em all in front of them and tell 'em Metal up your ****in ***. Anyways what do you think is the greatest bassist Metallica ever had? Ron Mcgovney (yeah right) Cliff Burton (**** yeah) I think Metallica lost a big part of their attitude when they lost him and lost a huge part of their musical genius. RIP Cliff Jason Newstead (pretty good, since he managed to step in and do a pretty decent job filling the shoes of such a master as Cliff Burton) Rob Trujillo (a very good and solid bassist) |
In order of best to worst:
1. Cliff Burton (**** yeah, amazing bassist my favorite bassist of all time. RIP) 2. Rob Trujillo (Nice unique style) 3. Jason Newsted (He was ok. Ugliest person I've ever seen though  ) 4. Ron McGovney ( ) |

In case you don't know who ron mcgovney is, he is their bassist before Cliff, when they saw cliff they kicked him out, i heard he wasn't even that good anyway. |

It's the band that Jason was in before he joined metallica,It's supposed to be bass fueled thrash metal, I've never heard it so i dont know if that is true, so has anyone ever heard them and are they any good? |

One time Dave spilled beer in his pickup when he was away and then when he plugged the bass in it just kaboom  . He got thrown against the wall but was alright. Dave once said that when he was in the band it was like 3 men and a baby(mcgovney). |
If Lars was not in Metallica, Metallica would not exist, it is as simple as that.
NOW. 1) Robzilla 2) Cliff 3) Jason 4) Ron . |
cliff was thier best bassist imo and rob is right behind him
|
Best, I think Rob... Favourite... Cliff! As a person, not just a bassist.
|
Cliff is the best, easily imo.
I haven't heard anything by Rob except for his Jungle solo where he starts Orion about mid-way, that's some fast fingers he's got, so it's promising. I can't wait to hear metallica with bass again :o Imagine Metallica's fast riffs with a speed-funk bass, that, in my opinion, would be amazing. Edit: Where's gocaps? He hasn't been around for a while, and he owes me a Battery review  Edit 2:
Yay it feels soo good to be back!!!!!!! What happened to the reviews dude you were all like yea reviews yea real reviews i think you did 3 (wayyyyy better than mine on FTB though) and that was it so far......
The idea wasn't for ME to do the reviews, I thought maybe someone could do a review, then suggest a song (Or maybe a few songs) for the next person to review. Feel free to review any song, I'd say maybe something from Load/ReLoad if you could, I'm sure there are good songs on those albums :) |
I hate these list things. Anyway, you can't say technically which Bassist was better, cause they are all very talented. Jason perhaps didn't join Metallica at the right time to flaunt his skills, cause he really is amazing. Cliff wasn't AMAZING as everyone says he was, but he was very productive with his bass. Rob is a great bassist...if you listen to the stuff he did previous to Metallica, it's easy to see why they recruited him.
So, basically I suppose it's all down to personal preferance. Most people seen to pick Cliff cause he was on Metallica best album, which is fair enough. |
No, I pick Cliff because of his obvious talent, though to be honest, Rob is better. I respect Jason an awful lot, I think he was a *very* good player, but I think he wasn't as good for the band as Cliff (whether that was his fault or the band's remains a mystery though). Cliff may not be as good as say Victor Wooten, but hey, you see videos of him, and the control he has of his bass, the noises he could make, what he could do without thinking or looking, just going wild with his hair, and generally actually enjoying himself. Sure, Jason did that, but its nowhere near as apparent as Cliff. As I said before, Cliff as a person seals the deal for me. If ever I had an idol, or a role model (which for the most part I hate), it'd be him. Minus the drinking and pot maybe
Rob on the other hand has a very good history of music, he's had 20 more years of bass playing than Cliff had, and he has already been cited by Hetfield as being better than Newsted at creating lines, and at knowing what he is playing without being told. I also think he has very fast fingers, and a good ear for melody. Jason was far more rhythmic, while Rob has a good groove and melody. I expect great things from him. If only he didn't slap with distortion. That kills it... Anyway, that's fro my point of view as a bass player. You may disagree :) |
I understand that. I always say that Cliff is a lost Lead Guitarist. The amount of Distortion that he applied to his sound, he may aswell have been one.
|
I don't think it was just his use of distortion the made Cliff great, it was also that he refused to play just chord roots, instead he would be all over the fretboard, and he knew how to use bass wah REALLY well.
|
That's what I mean. He didn't like to follow root notes. There's a lot of examples of it. That's why I don't think he should have been a Bass player. He seems more suited to a lead role.
