RustedPieces 05-10-2005 07:14 PM

This idiot in one of my classes is convinced that Blink-182 has sold more albums then metallica. He's such a moron.
I was upset that Larz dismissed the idea of a Metallica greatest hits album! GRRR, I thought it was a good Idea.
Just get Live Shit. Thats pretty much a greatest hits. Especially Seattle.
This idiot in one of my classes is convinced that Blink-182 has sold more albums then metallica. He's such a moron.
This idiot in my Spanish class thinks that more people like Jack Johnson than Slayer, and that he has sold more albums. Hes an idiot. Everyone in my school is brainwashed like that cause i live in a rich-jewish neighborhood so the majority of the peope either like rap or like acoustic guitar people. They really know nothing.

Back to the reviews!
Sandtrap never posted a song to review, and gocaps never did Battery.
So, someone do Battery, or someone make up a song.

FlyingPaul_83 05-10-2005 10:56 PM

Good news!

Im not banned anymore and I got live sh*t.

I love when Kirk drags his guitar around and when they play the four horsemen

make up a song?

If you wanna start reviewin for real, not just

'starts off acoustic guitar, nice melody, then kicks you in the nutbag with some thundrous riffs before James starts barkin out the words etc'

then i'll be in once it starts.

fyi, im not talkin about the music theory etc, i just mean like review the song like you would analyze a book in english. each little parts is significant and why, and why did metallica choose to play the guitar this way with the lyrics and the drums that way etc. not based on quantity, but quality.

then again, im not necessarily the one callin the shots here either. have fun, do what you please. its a public forum (something the mods gotta realize)

edit: to post above mine, thats all summary. post that in a place where the people haven't heard metallica, we all don't need to know that because we all know it even better. we're passed the 'summarize your favorite song' in this thread, its been overdone (just like best song/best album/kirk or mustaine etc), lets try something new (for kicks) and ANALyze (don't ask why I did that)

Endless Obsession 05-10-2005 11:24 PM

Alright i understand, but why dont u do one to exemplify what u are trying to say.

metal_milita 05-10-2005 11:27 PM
Alright i understand, but why dont u do one to exemplify what u are trying to say.
Because I'm only on a 15 min break from my History IB Essay, my TOK paragraph, drafting house and a new composition. IB month because schools almost over, so I don't have time for even the forums now. thats why I post once in a blue moon

Endless Obsession 05-10-2005 11:29 PM

O sh!t its 1:19 in the morn here. Night. Maybe ill attempt one tomarrow.*

*later today

metal_milita 05-10-2005 11:40 PM

Hell fine i'll quickly try one

"BATTERY

title signifies violence. common ground (for a listener) to assume song will be fast paced and expected to have a shock value attached, whether by lyrics or music.

Yet this song starts off with a slow and simple acoutsic duo, relatively chromatic in one guitar and quite different with the other, creating a pleasant sound. This sweet and harmless intro opposes the title and whats to come in the song. EFfect resembles that of the starry tune in intro from Fight Fire with Fire, just a contradiction of whats to come. Why? Perhaps this makes the listener more relaxed in a state of mind so that when the song actually begins, the listener is shocked and startled. However, after the small acoustic riff, the sound simply changes to distortion and the drums pound away to emphasize the melody/harmony of the guitar. Common metallica trait for Lars to simply pound the tombs alongside the guitar. The effect is simply the song sounds metallicaish. Soon the intro riff stops and the with a small transiton, we're thrown into the fast riff. A bit after the first minute, and the song has built out of a weak and tuneful melody to a common metallica verse riff."

thats all i could do in the 15 minutes I can spare, as you can see it is a song summary, but the difference is how everything must be explained, it doesn't matter if whats said is 'right' according to different people, it presents a new opinoin and interpretation of the song. This was very rough, so pardon me, but thats my personal example that i could quickly come up with

CemetaryGates9 05-10-2005 11:44 PM

So we're reviewing Metallica songs for fun now, or what?
So we're reviewing Metallica songs for fun now, or what?
for fun, but lets make it serious so we don't end up talkin a bunch of crap like usual and we actually learn stuff and offer our own ideas.

o man i feel like my tok (theory of knowledge) teacher

appreciate_it 05-11-2005 04:26 AM

people get confused between the sound of lars' drums and lars drumming. i personally think his drumming is good, they just sound so horrible.
people get confused between the sound of lars' drums and lars drumming. i personally think his drumming is good, they just sound so horrible.
not really, depends on the album. my fave lars sounds are from reload, load, and ride. i hate the drums in st. anger and and justice. a friend told me they sound like cans.

Well he's not a phenominal drummer, but he fits metallica imo. The only album that his drums sound bad on is st. anger. But in concerts, his drums sound fine.

yep

review a song. :)

The Unforgiven
The song overall:
Basically this song broke the orthodoxe rules of the power ballad, the song starts with a horn sound play backward, then start that accoustic fingerpick intro and the electric guitar lines sound like a old west melody.
Then the chords strike with the badass verse, then the chorus start with intro music.
thats the whole structure on the song, except for the interlude followed by the awesome guitar solo play over the verse chords somehow dissorted.
In a few words this song is the example of simplicity and greatness. 5/5

Lyrics:The lyrics are well done, somehow make you feel like you live in an already planned world. 5/5
Vocals:The vocals are very good, hetfield's voice was well done specially on the chorus. 4/5
Guitars:The whole guitars are very simple but are well done.4.5/5
Bass:The bass structure is like the guitars, but it's to overshadowed.4/5
Solo:The solo is a simple guitar work, but it sounds awesome, the solo shows a lot of energy and feelings. 5/5
Live:The song live has an extra accoustic intro and a different outro with solos, the song live shows a lot of power specially the solo.5/5

Call of the ktulu

This song is easier to understand (at least i think so) when its broken down into all of its different parts.
the intro is pretty sweet sounding, the chords are picked out in a manner that is mysterious and intriquing. following this is a different set of chords that sound more evil. then it repeats back, but with the bass drum. it gives it a kind of anticipation of what comes next, and you soon discover- the dist. guitar and drums come in heavy and uhh heavy. it follows the same riff from before but with distorted-palmmuted-crunchy-niceness. This section of the song, some will say is very repetitive, because for about a minute and twenty seconds, it basically follows the same patterns. Finally it sets the path for the solo with the e string riff followed by a cool doubling of the riff higher up on the fret board (lead guitar) the solo is set perfectly, it is built to in just the right ammount of time, and in the exact right context. Thats what makes it so interesting. Although there isnt much variation in the solo (mostly all e minor pentatonic) it makes its message heard. after the solo it goes into double time repeating (once again that repetitive riff!) from before the solo.
the pre-outro riff kicks so much ***. its so freakin heavy. the harmony and melody duet is really cool. finally (around the 6 minute mark) it repeats the intro of the song (clean) and .. unexpectedly finishes nice and loud.

vocals: none. and none are needed.
guitars: 5/5 nice riffs, nice lead guitar.
bass: In the album version the bass does this cool slide with wah that makes it sound like some kind of animal.
Live: they only played this song live a few times (im assuming because its long and gives them more chances of screwin up. or maybe they just dont like it much) the s & M version of this song is incredible, the orchestra fills in all the parts that are "boring and repetive"

wow. ten minutes of my life down the drain. i should been just playing the song.. then id still have 3 minutes back.

Deth 05-11-2005 07:05 PM

To intrude on your conversation here, have you listened closely to the bass on The Call Of Ktulu? It's pretty crazy stuff, and lots of fun to play.

My favorite song off of RTL (for now) it's got great riffs and a good solo and a kick *** intro

SHOTGUN reviewing "To live is to die". I'll do it when i can be bothered... which funnily enough is not at 1 o'clock in the morning on a school night, this fact one might argue also renders this post completely pointless...

BassMasterMike88 05-12-2005 09:03 AM

The Call of Ktulu is without a doubt the best track off of RTL, what i like is how it changes mood and dynamics so well and then goes back to the ominous intro riff towards the end, now thats one of the greatest examples of songwriting ever, the instermentals speak for themselves so well that it dosne't need and lyrics/vocals.
