Ah, so you were going at it, and decided to try the London Bridge, but then dropped her. Got it. We've all done it. |
Slang is where language barriers divide people. Even within the same language. Brilliant :p

Like driving the porcelain bus?

You've just proven my point to me.

How you been? It's been quite awhile. Same to the rest of you gentleman. |
Hello all, I enjoy bass it's tone low end and what it brings to music, what got you into this instrument?
|
After 3 oatmeal stout recipes, I went ahead and designed my own. Hopefully I'll be close to getting the flavors I think of when I think about an oatmeal stout.
If this recipe turns out good, I'm going to brew up an imperial version (effectively, double the ingredients and 11% alcohol) on the next round. |
Porridge beer? Fuck that.

 Not a fan of oatmeal stouts? |
Porridge beer? Fuck that.
Haha that's hilarious. I like oatmeal stouts, had a great one from Summit Brewery. Still more of a hophead though. |
I'm with you. Hops ftw. I drink IPAs year round (I know a lot of people who only drink them in the summer), and prefer them as my beer of choice. Moar hops = better beer. Usually.
BUT I do enjoy a nice, full-bodied, occasionally-sweet beer from time to time, either as a dessert beer, or just to have one and enjoy. Which isn't often. |
I'm a huge fan of beer, but can't say I've ever had a porridge beer.
Brand recommendations? I've never seen one here. |
Chris, I have got your email, just haven't had the chance to sit down and really digest everything, shit's a bit crazy at teh moment!

Hops ftw. Love 'em. I've recently been getting into RyePA's and CDAs. If you're a hop head, you'll enjoy either of those two. That reminds me, I should brew an IPA for my next beer...
Ryan, I'm not sure if it's available down there, but Firestone Walker makes "Velvet Merlin", which is an absolutely amazing oatmeal stout. I recently tried another one (I think it was made by Route 13?) that was pretty good too. You might be better served just going to a liquor store that sells single bottles and trying out a few. Oatmeal gives the beer a much fuller body, helps with head retention, and has a very creamy mouthfeel. The only downside is that caloric content is a little higher (my recent oatmeal will have about 200 calories per bottle). |

Delicious. The only RIPA I've come across, unfortunately. |

Ever had? Delicious. The only RIPA I've come across, unfortunately.
I have not had it, but now I really want it. I've had their regular IPA and their Nut Brown, both of which are excellent. Sierra Nevada makes a decent Rye IPA, and they might be available up there. |
CDA? I've had some rye ipas, including sierra neveda's (hard to find that one here), and all have been great. I tend to enjoy the pinier ipas more, though I love them all. |

I tend to enjoy the pinier ipas more, though I love them all.
CDA = Cascadian Dark Ale. It's a relatively new beer style. It's medium/dark brown and very hoppy (namely with Mt. Hood, Centennial, or Cascade hops, go figure). One thing I can't stand about inferior IPA's (I'm looking at you, New Belgium Ranger) is the pungent, unpleasant lingering aftertaste. The darker grains help to smooth it out and add a bit more body to the beer. I wouldn't describe the CDA style as particularly "piny", though. Probably a bit more earthy and citrus-y. |
Sounds wonderful.
The craft beer scene in the area so disappointing. The only one within about a 2 hour drive just started up not too long ago. All they have is a maple syrup brown ale, lager, and a wheat. None of which are a real interest to me. Especially since I just moved back here from right outside of St. Louis, which has a wonderful, ever-growing scene. |
Howdy again. Things are well. I just went to a couple awesome concerts last week. I saw Tool (5th time). They're as awesome as ever and played and incredible set.
Then a couple days later I saw A Silver Mt. Zion (currently Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra). I had heard maybe two entire songs before the show, but it was entirely amazing. I now love this band. Live music never stops being awesome. |
I saw Tool on the tour after 10,000 Days, and it is definitely in my top three live music experiences. Would love to see them again.

Not only did they play in Tucson, which is a 2-hour drive from here, the cheap seats were about $80 each after fees. I just can't justify that on top of the drive.
I saw Tool on the tour after 10,000 Days, and it is definitely in my top three live music experiences. Would love to see them again.
Same here. I also saw them about 10 years ago right after Lateralus. I didn't appreciate Tool as much then as I do now, but I remember it being a good show. |
Definitely eating a peanut butter and jam sandwich. It's pretty disgusting tbh.
I refuse to call it peanut butter jelly. |
Yeah, tickets were about that. Pretty ridiculous prices, but, in the end, it doesn't really bother me. It sucks spending that kind of money on a concert ticket, but then you get to see an awesome concert and one of the tightest bands play live, and you just kind of forget about the hole in your wallet.
The first time I saw them was back in 2001 after the release of Lateralus and I've seen them almost every time they've been back to Toronto since. They always kill it. A Silver Mt. Zion were also amazing. I don't know their level of popularity, but their a post-rock band from Montreal, started by the same guy that started Godspeed You Black Emperor. Their lineup is currently guitar, bass, drums, and two violins, and all five of them sing. They've got pretty long songs, generally around 10-15 minutes. In their 2 hour+ set, they played 8 songs. If you're into that sort of thing (and don't know them), check them out. A Silver Mt. Zion - BlindBlindBlind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qz82b54zPok |

I refuse to call it peanut butter jelly.
There's no logical reason to call it peanut butter & jelly when you are, in fact, using jam. The same applies for preserves. I'm unsure as to where marmalade sits in the jelly/jam/preserves area... probably preserves.
Yeah, tickets were about that. And extraneous ticket fees are just out of hand - you can't even get out of paying them by buying directly from the box office. |
