I don't know how long you've been playing but a couple of weeks ago I was at the same stage but you need to realize that most of the cymbals beauty comes after the initial hit so overtones are extremely important. If you want a cymbal with lots of Ping and little overtones go with the Z customs. I'd get an A Ping Ride, I have it it has a good ping dry bell with great overtones
I have been playing for 5 years :D And tend to know what sound i want.

And Z customs have simlairsound to UFIP Boinic's (i got reconmended them). But at the moment, i am 90% sure that if i can't get the 21'' HH Raw-bell Dry Ride, then im going to get 22'' A custom ride, and then just save again for the HH one.

Chris 11-07-2005 11:04 AM

Are 21'' A Rock Ride's any good?

I ask as i like the sound of the ride Kenny Aronoff used when he toured with the pumpkin's, and i think that is the ride he used.

Anyways to the cymbal choice, I dunno what Kenny Aronoff ride sounds like but the AA Rock ride is a decent ride, if you want plenty of ping with a cutting bright bell this is the ride for you, if you want to crash on it also look in to another ride.

Ummm no. Did you read what i put? I said when he toured with the pumpkin's. He never recoreded with them, so the sound you got on the tour is 90% what the real cymbal will sound like.

Murd_666 11-08-2005 06:29 AM

^oh sorry bout that, I kind of skimmed through, still that ride is still pretty nice^
anyways here's something to ponder
AAX Stage Set
or
AA Medium Set

VTDS_xx 11-08-2005 11:32 AM

I'm making my list of cymbals to upgrade to, that should last me a good time after I get them. I play Rock/Prog and want to make sure these are good choices:

14" AAX Stage Hats
21" AAX Stage Ride or 21" AA Medium Heavy Ride (in Trad. Finish)
18" AAX Bright Crash
16" AA Medium Thin Crash

Chinas and Splashes will be added later, I've got an 18" Wuhan China and 10" Wuhan S Series Splash right now, and they sound great so I'll probably add a 12" S Series Splash and a 14-16" China later.

These cymbals will compiment the 7 Piece Mapex M Kit I'll be getting at Christmas :D

playwithfire 11-08-2005 01:09 PM

The 18" AAX Bright crash is the worst crash I've ever played... oh man, I don't like it at all. It's just not one of the better AAX crashes. I say you're better off with an 18" AAX Stage, AA Medium Thin, or AA Medium.

Drum Phil 11-08-2005 01:10 PM

I like the stages and explosions in the AAX range as well as the bigger metal crashes

-TheGlassPrison- 11-08-2005 06:22 PM

Looking for something to compliment by 18" Vault.

bobby__johnny 11-08-2005 06:33 PM

18" AAX Stage

-TheGlassPrison- 11-08-2005 07:03 PM

Im not fond of AAX's.

bobby__johnny 11-08-2005 07:25 PM

18" HHX Stage

-TheGlassPrison- 11-08-2005 08:18 PM

bobby__johnny 11-08-2005 08:55 PM

Plan B. 11-08-2005 10:02 PM

mysticalyeti 11-08-2005 11:45 PM

I've been bidding/forgetting to bid on them for quite a while now... kicks *** to finally get one for such a good price.

DruMMeR_BoY14 11-09-2005 12:48 AM

20" sigs chinas rock, perfect sound I'm after in a china. too bad they are **** expensive in Aus :(

VTDS_xx 11-09-2005 10:38 AM

Changed a few things. I've changed my Ride to a 21" Sweet Ride in Brilliant Finish and added a 16" Oriental China Trash to the list. It's now this:

14" AAX Stage Hats
16" AA Medium Thin Crash
18" AAX Stage/plosion Crash/Vault :)
21" A Sweet Ride
16" Oriental China Trash

straycat101 11-09-2005 06:41 PM

how is the AAX Studio 16'' Crash? i like the sound of it but only heard the clips. also, does 'studio' mean it is just good for the studio, or that it isnt very loud ? anyways i think it will mix well with my 17'' A Custom Fast crash.

studio just means the term that sabian uses for size. like studio, stage, medium, rock. so the AAX studio crashes are thin.

Tesrson16 11-10-2005 12:44 AM

Is the paiste 2002 22" ride very versatile?

3_times_round 11-10-2005 06:52 AM

22" suggests not, but liten to some one wth more knowledge.

Murd_666 11-10-2005 07:11 AM

Anyone, AAX Stage or AA Mediums Pre Pack

Bowler 11-10-2005 09:36 AM

What do ya think of sonor cymbals over all. They're going for nothing on e-bay!

playwithfire 11-10-2005 09:42 AM

That means they are probably trash.

punk_drummer101 11-10-2005 02:16 PM

hi well i play mainly rock and i am getting a new mapex m birch and i have quite a low budget for cymbals, can any one help me out i don't wanna spend more than $300

an_original_name 11-10-2005 02:22 PM

on that budget the only cymbals your going to find will be lower end ones. i'd suggest checking out some wuhan Sseries cymbals. higher quality at a low price.

straycat101 11-11-2005 10:24 AM

what cymbal does Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats) use as a ride? i know its a Zildjian, i think some sort of A or A Custom.

playwithfire 11-11-2005 10:26 AM

Why don't you check the Zildjian website, if he's an endorsed artist, it will say on there.

bobby__johnny 11-11-2005 03:48 PM
Anyone, AAX Stage or AA Mediums Pre Pack
AA medium pack for sure

chewaz 11-11-2005 06:06 PM

how about:
AAX-xcelarator hi hats 14"
HH ROck ride 22"
HH rock crash 16"
AA Chinese 20"
AA splash 10" and 8"
HHX Chinese 20"

O.O

little_drummer_boy1 11-11-2005 09:01 PM

i know that sabian and zildjian have similar cymbals (such as sabian's raw bell dry ride and zildjian's k custom ride) but i was wondering what, if any, was zildjian's version of the sabian b8 pro china

FL3P 11-11-2005 09:05 PM

I guess that would be the ZXT total china

DruMMeR_BoY14 11-11-2005 11:26 PM

Sabian and Zildjian don't have totally the same cymbals. Like AAX's are sort of like A Customs but not relaly. Vaults are more A Custom like, besides the artisian rides, which look like pure sex.

Back when Zildjian had the ZBT plus line the china outta that line would be technically Zildjian's version. ZXT is the same as Xs, apart from well basicly everything about the two lines.

Tim 11-12-2005 02:58 AM
I guess that would be the ZXT total china
no way. that total china doesnt come anywhere near the b8pro china.

FL3P 11-12-2005 10:00 AM

That was just a guess based on series, I dont know what other comparison there would be.

punk_drummer101 11-12-2005 01:07 PM

meinl headliners are these any good?

poppinfresh 11-12-2005 01:09 PM

im pretty sure that they are bottom of the line

theygo for like a 100 for a set
