So I downloaded a couple Sum 41 albums last night on a whim. I haven't listened to these guys since shortly after Chuck came out, but I missed them. I've got all their CD's except Half Hour, but I can't find them :(
|
don't assume that I haven't seen this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G9Z3NzgarQ
...Yes they are influenced by Metallica, as many bands are. They are big fans. But that doesn't mean that they intend to 'follow in their footsteps'. You do realize Avril Lavigne, Korn and Snoop Dog also covered them that night? And I never assumed anything, you did. Douche. |

I have that, I can add it to the DU once I come back on Saturday. |

Sum41s new song sounds pretty cool, it kinda sounds more like Does this look infected stuff, i really liked that album, it sounds pretty much what i expected from them really.
|
Who left the band? The vocalist?
|
Dave the guitarist.
|

Metal reggae? They mix? Although TBH, it sounds like a cool mix, interesting |
Yeah they recorded one of their videos in my town's hospital.
It should be interesting Brown is a creative guy. |
Who else has heard March Of The Dogs and Underclass Hero?
If you haven't, March Of The Dogs is on their MySpace, and Underclass Hero can be found on Youtube. I love 'em both. They're both such classic pop-punk. It's like they've ripped the songs straight outta the 90's, which I loved, haha. Their metal influences are dead and gone, which for me, is a very good thing. Check 'em out. |
That new song is so similar to older Green Day i feel a lawsuit coming.
|
MOTIVATION SUCH AN AGRIVATION
what a tune |
haha new song is sh'it
|
I have hopes for the new CD despite MotD being mediocre.
|
Sounds like a combination of old Greenday and blink-182. hmmmmmmmm....
|
That's why I love it.
I guess everyone else has grown out of the music they grew up with. My music tastes haven't changes since I was like 5, haha. |
I liked it, but it doesn't really seem like it'd be a great single.
|
Our good friends Sum 41 are our nephous
|
Both new songs are amazing, but Underclass Hero basically took a vocal progression from Fat Lip, pretty much in the same key and everything, but I still love it and am still a huge fan, new album should be amazing
|
Yeah, UH is pretty fun and it did take a clip from Fat Lip, but still a good song.
http://www.myspace.com/sum41 for new songs. |
When I got Chuck I had only heard Pieces, so I was expecting bland pop punk with one or two catchy-enough-to-pass songs and that'd be about it. Hell No! Sum 41's vocalist was way different then I had expected, plus their guitars actualyl did something more then make some background music! WOO! Anotehr good punk band to listen to! I also need to hear more then Chuck. Anyone got a suggestion?
|
get all killer no filler
|
Sooooo, what's everyone think of the Underclass Hero video?
All I think when I see it is the night after the Fat Lip video, and Dave's gona home to go beddy bye's, haha. It's very similar, it's just shot at night. I must say, I prefer Deryck's hair blond and spiky again. Anyways, opinions anyone? |
pretty much what you said
|
I haven't been to these forums in months...I don't know why, but anyways, in light of the fact that their new albums hits in 6 days and I already downloaded the leak, I'll just go right ahead and say, the new album is just fantastic, alot of it sounds similar to other songs on the album, but since it's a concept album I can forgive them, I just absolutely love it

yeah its not a very good video.. but its a good song so they cancel each other out.
|
I see it as the kind of video a band would do for their first single:
Pretty simple, Low budget, Shows off the band members (mostly band playing scenes) etc. It doesn't seem fitting for where they are in there career, unless they're thinking the same way as me, and trying to start fresh... I doubt it. |
I'm not really worried about why they made the video the way they did, it's just a dumb music video, but Fish is right, it is a good song, so I'm not worried about it
|
new album is terrible as is the new single.
If I wanted to listen to a fuc'king re-hash of Fat Lip then I would listen to the far superior AKNF, rather than the cr'ap new album |

Apparently, most people on this board seem slightly unimpressed with the new album.
Well I for one love it. There's not a single song I wouldn't listen to 10 times over. (Excluding Ma Poubble or whatever, I don't speak french, haha) I don't think it really sounds all that much like AKNF. Obviously it has similarities, as they were both by the same band, but I think it really IS a mix of all of their albums on one, just the first two more than others. Which isn't a bad thing, as I liked the style of music they played then, but I preferred their songwriting in the latter two. UH is a mix of the HHOP-AKNF sound, with the more mature songwriting of DTLI and Chuck. Anyways, my point is I like it, and don't understand why people , Sum 41 fans mostly, are so object to it. |
At first I wasn't too keen on the new album but it's grown on me. Sum 41 is probably one of my top favorite bands and influences. Sure some parts aren't the greatest but it works. But you really do get a sense of how much Dave contributed to the band while listening to the album. I miss his solos and harmonys

Actually, that's the same with me. Haha.
Stupid internet people.... :amaze: Wait. |

Haters are retarded ey ? No my friend it is a difference of opinion. I've been a fan for little over 5 years of this band I liked every single album up until this release. If you want to put up with a sub-par copy cat of American Idiot then fair enough. I however won't be wasting my money. I wish dave would re-join the band. They might hit some form again. |
