Lunch 10-27-2009 11:26 AM
**** I should go to that, Lunch. I don't have plans for Halloween, Royal Oak is like 20 minutes away. How much are the tickets?
Yea, probably. I think tickets are only like 20 bucks, and there's a pretty good opening band. Halloween show is bound to be a damn good time too. It's a sweet deal for us from Ann Arbor because the opening band is organizing a party bus that leaves from downtown and for $40 you get a show ticket, ride there and back, and BEER on the bus!
Hey Fellas, sorry for the late notice....

Disco Biscuits are coming to KZOO and celebrating their new CD release tour!!!
Join on somewhere if you can.

WED. OCT 28th KALAMAZOO STATE THEATRE
You got my super heady fitted hats and pharmies brah?
probably cheap enough that it will be well worth it.

In Madison, tickets are $25 and includes Great American Taxi opening along with an after party show by the Macpodz for free. railroad earth seem to like good deals.
That's solid, doesn't GAT have one of the dudes from Leftover Salmon? Also, the Macpodz are a fun jazz/funk/rock type band that can bring some energy. Definitely worth seeing, especially for "free"

That party bus thing is awesome. Great American Taxi has Vince Herman, the main singer/songwriter/guitarist from Leftover Salmon. I don't listen to Great American Taxi or Leftover Salmon but looking forward to checking them out.

The Macpodz are sweet, I caught them twice at Mountain Jam, real cool stuff. I think they're from Ann Arbor, aren't they?

That sounds like a real fun time with transportation provided and everything. Railroad Earth would be great on Halloween.

Aw c'mon now, I'm a huge Bisco fan and I'm nothing like that or any other Bisco kid stereotypes. Problem is Bisco fans automatically get a bad wrap just because there's some really crazy and/or stupid ass tDB fans. Those fans only make up like 50% of the fanbase, others are normal cleanfun-lovin folks who just like to dance and get down:smoke:

whsandiego 10-29-2009 12:47 PM

Bisco in San Diego

How was their 10/28 show!?!

I've never been to a concert of theirs before, but am stoked to go to their 11/18 one in San Diego. They are playing at 4th & B. It seems like this is a different type of venue than they normally play though, has anyone been or is going?

robo2448 10-30-2009 04:03 PM

so railroad earth just put on quite possibly the single greatest show I have ever been to, and I've probably been to 100-150 including some real good ones... but man I have just never experienced anything like last night before. What can I say besides you guys are in for a hell of a treat.

robo2448 11-01-2009 12:45 AM

Just saw the setlist you guys got in Michigan, looks really really good. i want to follow Railroad Earth on tour.

Ghostfire3 11-03-2009 01:50 AM

^Do it! Touring with a band you love is one of the most exciting and fun things for a live music enthusiast to do. Great times are had on tour, especially if you're travelling with a select few close pals.

robo2448 11-03-2009 08:17 PM

Yeah seems like it would be a blast. My friend and I agreed that next time Railroad Earth comes through the Midwest we'll have to hit a couple more shows.

tlg just announced a winter tour through the midwest so i'll probably be doing minneapolis, madison and maybe chicago. should be fun, although doing a tour through the north midwest in january is pretty ****ing stupid. it'll be freezing.

jpj 11-05-2009 09:42 PM

I'm going to see an Umphrey's Stew Art show at 9:30 on the 21st. I don't know if you guys have heard anything about these things yet, but it's a small show (I think they only sold like 50 or 100 tickets) and the audience texts themes that are projected on a screen and the band tries their best to play to them.

I'm pretty excited to see how this turns out.

Also Blues Traveler tomorrow, first time seeing them.

robo2448 11-06-2009 11:13 AM

Umphrey's seems to a lot of really cool things like that. i know they provide free tickets for tapers which i think is an absolutely brilliant idea and something all bands should do. that you're seeing them do sounds pretty crazy and interesting, let me know how it works out.

jpj 11-07-2009 11:38 AM

Blues Traveler was great. They played a some great covers (Devil Went Down to Georgia, What I Got by Sublime, and What You to Want Me). Popper was taking shots on stage all night, and by the end of the show he was obviously trashed, but it seemed to only make him play better. The crowd was surprisingly old, I'm pretty sure I was the youngest person there.

robo2448 11-15-2009 06:45 PM

Just uploaded a couple must-hear shows on my blog- http://chinacatsunflower.tumblr.com/

Uploaded 2 David Nelson Band soundboards from this past summer tour. David Nelson is from New Riders Of The Purple Sage and his band is incredible and pretty different from NRPS. Lots of very psychedelic jamming, but there's some country rock/roots stuff too. All five members played with Phil Lesh & Friends at some point and the band just plain rocks, especially Barry Sless. Check out his playing, it's incredible.

robo2448 11-21-2009 01:17 PM

furthur tour announced.

it'll be hard for me to make it any of the shows, i might have to wait until festival season (I would expect them to play the last night of Vibes, as it will be Jerry's birthday and all)...

jpj 11-23-2009 12:32 PM

Had the Umphrey's S2 show on Saturday. It was a really cool experience being in such an intimate environment with the band. I thought for the most part the guys did a great job playing along to the themes, and a few of them resulted in some truly great jams. My brother and I both got texts put up (mine was the very last one), which was cool.

You can see all the themes that were used here: http://blog.umphreys.com/cs/blogs/thefloor/

Some of the better ones were "slayer plays techno," "sesame shakedown street," and "Johnny Cash vs. Jerry Garcia."

magicbus 11-23-2009 06:22 PM

Damn, I would like to hear how that sounded.

Lunch, I know you have Widespread tickets for tomorrow, might want to check this out: http://www.jambands.com/news/2009/11/23/free-acoustic-widespread-gig

Hopefully you see this in time! I'm thinking about heading to both if I can get out of work early enough.

magicbus 11-23-2009 11:35 PM

1: Run Like Hell -> Story of the World (><) -> Basis for a Day

2: Save the Robots -> Home Again -> Spacebirdmatingcall -> Save the Robots

They have some really awesome jams in this one.

Aaron 11-26-2009 07:42 PM

What a terrible thread.

robo2448 11-28-2009 06:33 PM

I caught Dark Star Orchestra last night, it was quite a good show. One of John K's final shows with DSO, since he just resigned because of his commitment to touring with Furthur. So it was cool to see him with DSO one more time. Jeff Mattson is replacing him and is an excellent guitarist but man, I love John K's playing and he was really on fire last night. They created an original setlist, and previously when I've seen them do that it's been a little questionable and some songs seemed out of place. Last night's original setlist was different though, it flowed very, very well and was full of great songs. Check it out, I wish the Dead played something like this-

I.
Hey Pocky Way
Hell In A Bucket
Row Jimmy
Minglewood Blues
Two Souls
Jack-A-Roe
Greatest Story Ever Told
Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues
Touch Of Grey

II.
Feel Like A Stranger
Foolish Heart
Blow Away
Weather Report Suite (eaton on acoustic)
Let it Grow
Drums
Space
St. Stephen
William Tell Bridge
The Eleven
So Many Roads
Satisfaction

E: Second That Emotion

Freaking great setlist, especially the 2nd set. St. Stephen > William Tell > Eleven > So Many Roads > Satisfaction was incredible as was the Weather Report Suite > Let It Grow. Cool stuff. The venue was awful though, security was out of control.

Pacific Northwest Heads - Keller Williams @ Showbox Dec 5th

Any Pacific North West People out there getting excited about Keller this weekend?

Its been a while since Ive seen a solo Keller show and I can't wait.

Keller with the SCI boys at Rothbury this summer was nothing short of extraordinary!

See you there!

jpj 12-07-2009 03:07 PM

Just got back yesterday from my trip to New York and Charlottesville to see Phish. Both shows were absolutely mind blowing, definitely the two best shows I've ever seen.

The best part of the weekend was seeing a naked guy jump on stage during Ya Mar in Charlottesville, hug Trey, then evade security for at least 30 seconds. During "Run Like an Antelope" Trey replaced the lyrics with "You've gotta run like a naked guy out of control!" Needless to say the crowd loved it.

magicbus 12-08-2009 06:09 PM

You guys ever listen to Jazz Is Dead (Jazzy, instrumental covers of Dead songs, featuring Jimmy Herring, T Lavitz, Billy Cobham, etc.)?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXozVen2bBo

Jimmy's guitar is basically singing. I've got a cool SBD where they feature Derek Trucks and Vassar Clements on a few songs, I'll see if I can find a link or upload it somehow.

jpj 12-08-2009 08:04 PM

Jazz is Dead is awesome.

robo2448 12-08-2009 11:55 PM

I have Jazz Is Dead's albums but I've never really listened to them.

I've never really been able to get into Herring's playing dead material. i've met a few people at shows that swear Phil Lesh & Friends with Herring was the best dead music anyone has played post-Jerry but I don't know, never really done much for me. I need to listen to more.

By the way, there is a live stream of Furthur's show tonight on gdradio, check it out. beginning of set 2 now.

and i would love to hear that jazz is dead show with Vassar and Derek though. There's a great Phil & Friends show with Derek on archive, 1999-11-15 by the way.

Broken Arrow 12-09-2009 11:04 AM

I remember Jazz is Dead from the old old CR days.

robo2448 12-09-2009 12:11 PM

yeah i know i got those albums from that thread. along with lots and lots of other good music.

magicbus 12-09-2009 12:23 PM

Here's the link to that set: http://www.sendspace.com/file/b2sqjw

It's pretty cool. Good song selection too.

Lotus25999 12-09-2009 04:07 PM

What's up guys I am new to this site and I was hoping I could find some sbd's for EOTO and Lotus. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

robo2448 12-09-2009 08:57 PM

probably some stuff on archive.org or etree.org

Lotus25999 12-24-2009 11:36 AM

How about a link to these shows from EOTO?

1) 09/24/09 The Fez Ballroom, Portland, OR
http://www.livedownloads.com/show.aspx?show=3035

2) 12/05/09 Canopy Club, Urbana, IL
http://www.livedownloads.com/live-music/0%2C4526/EOTO-mp3-flac-download-12-5-2009-Canopy-Club-Urbana-IL.html

Please?

magicbus 12-25-2009 09:11 AM

Looks like you already have some links there. And they aren't up on the archive, you'll probably have to purchase the show if you want to hear.

LeMonotreme 12-28-2009 04:26 AM

Incredible.

robo2448 12-28-2009 11:32 AM

someone help me decide- gov't mule or soulive/lettuce for NYE?

jpj 12-28-2009 11:49 AM

Gov't Mule all the way.

LeMonotreme 12-29-2009 01:26 AM

Definitely Gov't Mule. Seeing the great Warren Hayes play is an absolute pleasure.

robo2448 12-29-2009 09:43 AM

Yeah that's my feeling too but I've seen Mule like 8 times or so and it's much more expensive. i'd still rather do that, especially since they're doing a tribute to woodstock (seeing mule cover hendrix, ten years after, santana etc would be incredible) but my brother really wants to do soulive so we'll see.

well soulive/lettuce sold out so looks like mule it is... should be crazy. the chick that sang in across the universe is confirmed to be sitting in with them to do the janis/jefferson airplane stuff.

robo2448 01-02-2010 12:46 PM

Gov't Mule NYE was maybe the best show I've ever seen. They played 3 sets over 5 hours, and the last 2 sets were a tribute to Woodstock which they absolutely nailed. It was probably like my 10th time seeing Mule and I've never seen them this good. Every song was just incredible.

Here's the setlist:

Lunch, you'll be happy to know that at the end of Listening To You Warren listened to his inner Pete Townsend and knocked over a couple amps. Warren also played an upside down lefty strat for the Hendrix songs. Crazy night.

Anyone else see a show on NYE?

Lunch 01-02-2010 01:33 PM

Damn Robo that sounds awesome. I've only seen Mule once and it was pretty boring, although they played a killer No Quarter that made it worth it. I also gained a lot of respect for Warren as a real musician's musician at the Dead last spring. Those second two sets look wild. It would be funny so see Warren rage on his gear a la Pete.

I went to this band called Ultraviolet Hippopotamus that played at Founder's Brewery in Grand Rapids, MI. The band was just ok but it was more about hanging with some close friends and drinking great beer at Founder's than the music, and that was perfectly fine with me. A fun night all in all. Looks like I should have gone to Atlanta for Panic though.

robo2448 01-02-2010 02:28 PM

warren didn't quite rage on his gear like pete. he did it as delicately as possible, it was like he didn't want to damage anything. It was pretty funny.

And Warren really nailed the Dark Star too. Really fantastic Dark Star. One of the things I hate about post-Jerry projects is that Dark Star always gets split up. I hate how Ratdog will weave through Dark Star (or Bird Song) multiple times in a night. It was fantastic seeing a band actually play the whole damn thing straight through, which Mule did.
