Or Fates Warning, Pain Of Salvation, Symphony X...all are in the same vein as Dream Theater.
Eh..I don't know about Symphony X. They have DT-esque moments but overall their sound is much more Power Metal.
So, I was floating around the internet, when I decided to download some Neil Young as I remember his album Harvest Moon being played a lot when I was a wee young chappy.

What would people say was his best work?
On The Beach and Rust Never Sleeps.

BassNewb 05-08-2005 10:00 AM

Alright I've listened to the same stuff for about the last 6 months and need some new metal bands, the bands I listen to now are:
American Head Charge
Lamb of God
Shadows Fall
Slayer
Metallica
Megadeth
The Haunted
Six Feet Under
Killswitch Engage
Mudvayne
Hatebreed
Chimaira
Children of Bodom
Danzig

Any heavy metal would be great.

CaptainWaits 05-08-2005 10:01 AM

Somebody recommend me the best Neil Young album

Also, a real good Speed Metal album by any band

munky_magik 05-08-2005 10:02 AM

Try Norther, Kalmah, Dream Evil, and Manowar for more Power Metallish stuff.
Arsis are a good melodic death band, if you like that stuff.
Try Some Judas Priest as well.
Iron Maiden don't appear(to me) to be on your list. Try them as well.

At the Gates and Kalmah stick out as recommendations at first, closely followed by Arsis and Quo Vadis. And though I don't particularly care for them, you'd probably like Trivium.

I just did, 2 posts up from yours.

BassNewb 05-08-2005 10:11 AM

I tryed to just list some of the bands not all.

Where would you rank 'Harvest Moon' amongst his CDs? Just wondering because I do like that album.

Kreator - A Pleasure to Kill
Exumer - Possessed by Fire
Hirax - Raging Violence
Kreator - A Pleasure to Kill

Those aren't really Speed Metal though. I mean like something along the lines of Metal Church or old Blind Guardian and such

CaptainWaits 05-08-2005 10:53 AM
If you like Neil Young, check out After The Gold Rush. You may also want to look at his work with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Buffalo Springfield. I'd say After The Gold Rush is required listening for fans of his though.
I should've stated that "After the Goldrush" was the one Neil Young album I had. Thanks for the help there though on his work with those selected artists

evilmenhavenosongs 05-08-2005 10:58 AM
I have a feeling that this should go in Other Music but we all know how much traffic that place gets.

I've been looking into Industrial, Darkwave, EBM etc. but I'm fairly new to it for the most part because there's just so much to get through basically.

At the moment I have some bands that I suspect from reveiws and stuff are good but I either can't get a hold of anything by them or I'm not sure of which album to get etc.

Faetal
Code 64
The Retrosic
Pain
Neuroticfish
Children On Stun
Hanzel Und Gretyl
Juno Reactor
Dulce Liquido
My Sixth Shadow
NIMP

I'm not sure if this is strictly allowed in the thread but what the hell. Which are worth following up and which just suck? Any other suggestions? Also, which Wumpscut album to get? I hear they vary in quality quite a lot. And are Audrey Horne worth investigating?
:(.

Iai 05-08-2005 12:11 PM

I've never heard of any of that. Sorry.

evilmenhavenosongs 05-08-2005 12:15 PM

Onoes.

HMV doesn't have a section for Industrial. I complained to the guy behind the counter because HMV sucks.

3rdplanet 05-08-2005 12:17 PM

^ Why the hell would they?!

munky_magik 05-08-2005 12:21 PM

Don't they just lump 'Industrial' in the 'Metal' section? I know the do that with alot of stuff.

CaptainWaits 05-08-2005 12:37 PM
Don't they just lump 'Industrial' in the 'Metal' section? I know the do that with alot of stuff.
yeh. there's no need for a music store to have a seperate Industrial section.

evilmenhavenosongs 05-08-2005 12:42 PM

Yeah they do, but they don't actually have anything other than Rammestein and NIN.

They have a reggae section... :upset:

Anyways... carry on with the reccomending.

munky_magik 05-08-2005 12:44 PM
Yeah they do, but they don't actually have anything other than Rammestein and NIN.
Are you sure? I usually find that HMV has a pretty broad selection of artists from most genres. It's just all very expensive :-/
They have a reggae section... :upset:
Well ,there isn't really much you can lump reggae in with.

CaptainWaits 05-08-2005 12:45 PM

Anyways, someone recommend me a god **** good Speed Metal album!!

evilmenhavenosongs 05-08-2005 12:47 PM

I know I know... I was just being in a bad mood. We had a nice discussion about Industrial though. :)

They had nothing that I could see except Rammestein and NIN, not even Wumpscut and they're pretty big or so I'm led to believe.

Whats up, Animosity! Entertainment Forums rocks. :thumb:

Anyways, get anything by Slayer and you should be just fine.

I haven't seen you there for some time.

Anyways, Slayer is more Thrash and I don't care for Slayer at all, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Voivod - War And Pain. Straight up thrash at its finest.
Ungodly fast, and amazing solos.

panthersfan16 05-08-2005 11:34 PM

anyone suggest some kind of metal that's as hard as slipknot and is not industrial or shadows fall

ArcLite 05-08-2005 11:36 PM

Do you like Shadows Fall? If so, I can give you a piss load of similar bands to check out.

panthersfan16 05-08-2005 11:40 PM
