NP: Weezer - No One Else

So I'm doing a test retake. Does anyone know why in the era of the Mongols and the Ming Empire why China feared transfer of technology?

Shadows 12-06-2005 07:26 PM

Damn, I have no idea. My history class started in the 1200's on focuses on only Europe. Yet I still manage to do remarkably ****ty in that class.

Lord Abortion 12-06-2005 07:27 PM

Ok chaps...I'm going to listen to this and then go to bed.

Hope everything is saner tomorrow

Oh ok. We started even before my parents were born, like in the millions "B.C.E." (I hate BCE, what ever happened to good old AD?). It's not too bad, I'm doing poorly in the class but I was absent for a few days.

Anyone else???

I just finished reading Speaker For The Dead. Amazing Sci-Fi novel. Anyone know it? (if not, you should die)

I know of it, but I've never read it. It's good? I'll have to read it whenever I feel like reading (which is rarely...)

Stormrider 12-06-2005 08:05 PM

The only thing I read that Im not forced to read is the Resident Evil series. Ive read each book of the series about 5 times each

 That reminds me of my sister and my girlfriend. I can't count on one hand how many times they've read Harry Potter.

Toaster 12-06-2005 08:06 PM

I love reading. I'm actually a fairly big scifi fan. Reading while listening to music is the best thing ever, I've decided.

I couldn't do both. I'm not a great reader; I tend to skip around words. I'm too interested in the music to read at the same time.

Shattered_Future 12-06-2005 08:07 PM

I think the last actual book that I didn't have to read for school was Lords Of Chaos...which I enjoyed much.

Sci-Fi books kick ***. As well as TV shows (Stargate! \m/).

I can never stay awake in history class...like today. We were doing some lesson on WWI...all I heard was something about trenches, and some kid saying that they looked like a 6 year old's dream fort, and something about poison gas and tanks.

I read everything from Harry Potter up until half of the 5th one. I stopped when I started reading the Reident Evil. The games are pretty cool too.

The World Wars are two of my favorite subjects in US and World history!!

I liked the last two books I read for school, The Great Gatsby and Brave New World. Brave New World was extremely weird, but very good.

I read 1 and 1/2 of 2, it bored me. I have to read three - six. I haven't played the RE games.

That's kind of the problem i have when i listen music while reading, I just pay attention to the music intead of the book so when im finished reading i dont know anything about the book so i have to re-read it.

NP: Isis - The Beginning And The End

Shadows 12-06-2005 08:09 PM

Oh Mike, you foolish bastard. :-*

I'm not much of a reader at all. Books just don't seem to appeal to me. I'd much rather listen to music while discussing it with tohers, like I am right now.

We finished Catch-22 in AP English. Absolutely fantastic, I highly recommend it.

It's great, no doubt.

I find when I put on an album I've never listened to in the background, and listen to it a few times through while reading I actually know the album pretty well when I actually sit down and listen. It's less distracting 'cause you're not waiting for certain parts of a song or anything.

Stormrider 12-06-2005 08:13 PM

I usualy hate when teachers assign us to read books. But last year, I liked the book 2 of the nooks she gave us. Cue For Treason and The Giver. Especialy The Giver..I realy liked that one.

NP Opeth - The Twilight Is My Robe

Joe 12-06-2005 08:14 PM

I have it right here, Catch 22, I'll have to start it eventually. We're doing Death of a Salesman now (great play!), then I'll do that. There's another one I'm supposed to read, Presumed Innocent by Scott Turow. It's got three full pages of praise in the beginning.
That's kind of the problem i have when i listen music while reading, I just pay attention to the music intead of the book so when im finished reading i dont know anything about the book so i have to re-read it.
I found out if I now the summary of the book I am able to keep up with it so much better. I read the summary to The Great Gatsby on sparknotes and I turned out loving the book, whereas if I don't I'm screwed.

Stormrider: I loved The Giver! If you like that read Brave New World.

What did you think?

The Giver seems to be a very popular book. It's on every recent reading list I've ever seen and all my friends rave about it. Unfortunately, it hasn't inspired me to read.

Bartender got his account hijacked? :-/

I got in
Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger
Hanoi Rocks - Two step from the move

today. Waiting on 3 more Cds,

Shattered_Future 12-06-2005 08:17 PM

I just thought the whole "releasing" thing was weird. And quite cruel...I don't give a crap what it is for, nobody deserves to have that done to them unless they want it.

Stormrider 12-06-2005 08:17 PM
Finally finished Something Wicked?

Its now my favorite Trilogy. Its also on my have to see list when I see them live. Realy good album. Its almost as good vocaly as Horrow Show IMO.

Even though it was weird, I enjoyed reading it. It made me think...

Joe 12-06-2005 08:17 PM

Have you tried reading it though? Or were you just never in the mood to pick it up?

I don't remember that. I remember the weird dreams and the no color and such...

NP: A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation - Trivium. Why does it have to have such a long name?

Deth 12-06-2005 08:21 PM

To Stormrider: Horror Show seems to rely more on harmonies though, the intro to Dracula when it gets heavy being the big one that comes to mind.

NP: Haggard - In A Pale Moon's Shadow

Shattered_Future 12-06-2005 08:21 PM

Yknow, if somebody wasn't "fit" for the society, they were released...or basically given a lethal injection. That was the whole thing with the little baby...how they were going to release him.

NP: Symphony X - Of Sins And Shadows (live version).

Man, the band sounds just as good live as when I saw them on Gigantour, AND on the album. Fecking amazing.

Shadows 12-06-2005 08:22 PM

I've heard a little Symphony X but didn't care much for it.

NP: Demiricous - Vagrant Idol

A friend of mine just picked up a book by Orwell that he says is incredible. I can't recall the name, but it's about some kind of futuristc 1994 world.
