Edan - Beauty and the Beat
Leaders of the New World - Future Without a Past
Souls of Mischief - '93 to Infinity
Lone Catalysts - Good Music
The Coup - Pick A Bigger Weapon
Jeru the Damaja - The Sun Rises In the East

That should get you started.

Listened to this yesterday. It's ok. Beat seems too busy. He sounds solid, though. I guess he realized what a stupid excuse, "There's nothing left to say," or whatever it was he said was.

Nothing, it's the people who only listen to it who are annoying. I like plenty of backpacker stuff.

Robert Crumb 10-08-2006 02:55 PM

Babylonian.

Maybe try Midival Punditz?

That song that you posted is in the genre called Asian Massive, so try any artists from that movement.

i need to get soulseek...add ur name and jonm's...had to reformat so i didn't bother dl'n it again and i had problems sharing my music

Kaden 10-08-2006 05:43 PM

On first listen, the beat for the new Jay-Z single kills it.

It could grow on me though, at first I hated the beat for U Don't Know, and now I love it.

Eliminator 10-08-2006 09:37 PM

I need to listen to it still.

Thank You

Raus and JonM for getting me to listen to GZA's Liquid Swords, because it is quickly becoming one of my favourite albums at the moment. And it reminded me of how good Wu-Tang are/were.

What other Wu-Tang soloist albums are worth checking out?

bleep_bloop 10-09-2006 05:12 AM

Ghostface Killah?

The Jungler 10-09-2006 08:03 AM

I don't find the new Jay-Z single to be bad at all. The beat is actually kind of cool.
Says the guy who thinks Mos Def and and Common are "classics" and only seems to listen to backpack rap.
Wrong. I agree with pretty much every classic album you listed, and many of those aren't even close to backpack rap. For instance, the group you have in your avatar has made two of the greatest hiphop-albums of all time in my eyes (being The Infamous and Hell On Earth). Too bad I don't seem able to get into much of their later stuff though... I can appreciate gansgta rap when the artists actually seem clever and get their point across in a semi-intelligent way. Oh, and I'd really like to know what is wrong with Common and Mos Def? Common's Resurrection is widely seen as one of the greatest hiphop albums of all time, and so is Black Star, although to a lesser degree.
If you're to call me anything, then call me stuck in the old school or something, mid-90s hiphop is what I'm enjoying the most out of all hiphop-styles these days.

Ghostface Killah - all
Method Man - Tical, 4:21... The Day After
Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, The DaVinci Code: The Vatican Mixtape, Vol. 2
Masta Killa - Made In Brooklyn
Inspectah Deck - Uncontrolled Substance
RZA - The Formula For The Cure

I consider all of these essential Wu listening. The RZA mixtape is not the best of these records, but I believe it's necessary for demonstrating that RZA is, contrary to popular belief, a master MC.

Rams 10-09-2006 01:18 PM

Remedy's The Genuine Article is a must for Wu-Tang affiliates.

You forgot ODB's Nigga Please.

antiant 10-09-2006 02:38 PM

so...what do you guys think of Pigeon John? frankly, never really heard of the guy til now...just got his latest cd, listening now, it's actually not bad at all, i'm liking what i'm hearing so far

LMAO man this album is making me laugh in a good way, some of the skits/comedy-like stuff within this album is funny

fortysixand2 10-09-2006 04:39 PM

I have recently gotten into Wu-Tang, especially 36 Chambers. "I'm gunna bang them ****s with a spike ****in' bat!" best line in all of rap, in my opinion.

Ok, I know I said I was having a hard time getting into it earlier, but by now I'm a complete convert to MF Grimm. The guy is amazing, American Hunger has to be my favorite album from this year. Crazy in particular is a song I can't stop listening to, seriously that song has major hit potential. If it had been made by someone with more of a name it'd be all over the airwaves.

ATM 10-09-2006 07:51 PM

Maybe Ill grab that tonight.

I just sat through American Hunger almost straight through (took a 15 minute break to shower). I was rather impressed with it. The lyrical content was nice in that he didn't just claim to be the "Master of Flow" over and over and over again, but his blatant racism kind of got to me after a while. The Monsta Island Czars were the stars of the album though.

The title track is pretty damn impressive as well, as was most No Said Date, actually, that was a nice album. Haven't checked out the new one though.
GZA's second album "Beneath The Surface" is pretty nice as well, although nowhere near as great as Liquid Swords, but check it out nonetheless.
