i am looking for the ride the reverand from avenged sevenfold uses. if not that something similar.
24" AAX Metal Ride |
Alrighty, i'm undertaking the daunting task of PICKING NEW HATS.
Something to go along with HHX evolution crashes, HH medium thin crashes. Brand doesn't matter. as for specific sounds, i'd like a semi dark tone, average amount of wash but not trashy, and a defined stick hit closed. I hope I've made sense, seeing as how I'm terrible at putting sound into words. |
OK guys, It's time for me to pick a new ride.
Sound: Strong Stick Defenition without much wash. I would like it to have a strong bell sound as well. I'd also like it to be a semi-bright sound, but not to pingy. Companies: I'd perfer a Paiste ride but I am open to ALL suggestions as long as I can get it at Guitar Center ($250 store credit). Considered Already: 20" Paiste Reflector Dry Ride 20" Paiste 2002 Ride 21" Sabian HHX Dry Ride Thanks for any help! |
I won't be getting these for awhile, but its never too early to start looking.
I'm looking for a second crash cymbal. I have a Sabian AA 18" Medium Crash, and will soon have Zildjian New Beat hi-hats, so I was wondering what a good second crash would be. I don't necessarily want a 'secondary' crash, but another primary crash that would sound different from the Sabian but still compliment it nicely. I was thinking about Paiste 2002s.....different, but similar. |
to Expresso: Look at A New Beats, getting some myself and played a pair today, best sounding hats I think I've ever heard. Clean, clear and defined chick sound and a nice open sound, not trashy. If the New Beats are too bright, look at K hats, I've played some in brilliant finish and man did they sound good, nice dark warm tone with a good chick sound and open wash.
*random info* Played on an A Sweet Ride today wihtout knowing, the makrings were almost completely gone and man did it sound good. I know its been popularised by pop-punk durmmers but it has such a nice ride and bell that I was pretty astonished when i finally figured out what it was. Has a nice crash on the edge as well (as is rather well known). I'd sugest it to anyone wanting a lighter ride, works great in a jazz setting (which what I was using it for today), and would also work great in a rock/punk situation. I woudlnt recomend it to anyone looking for a heavy and pingy ride, hwile it did have a good bell, it wouldjn't be heard through walls of guitars. |
i need a nice cheap ride and hihiat for hardrock/metal music,
|
Sabian AA I think. I don't know much about Sabain, but generally they are cheaper than Zildjian and Paiste (depending on where you are).
|
Hmm so anyway i was thinking of getting a few more crashes to go along with my incoming catalina birch. im gonna play mainly mainstream rock, nothing too heavy, looking to play "clean songs". might veer off into some pop rock...maybe foo fighters.. oasis... greenday kinda things? yea i already have an xs20 set and i just want to get some extra crashes. I was looking to get an evolution 16" and an a custom 16" and an a custom 16" fast crash. opinions on this? whether its ok or there are better cymbals to suit my style of music. eg different model or size? im not gonna be able to try a lot of em out as my local music store doesnt stock many models and im gonna order online so thats why im asking for opinions on what has the sound im probably looking for. thanks.

Hey everyone,
I'm kinda picky when it comes to chinas. I'm looking for a china that isn really very harsh at all. Something that would blend really well, and even have crash-like qualitites. Thanks! |
You might be better off with a trashy sort of crash:
- HHX Ozone Crash - Oriental Crash of Doom - HHXtreme Crash But if you don't like those (and the Ozone Crash is very good) then try a K Custom china. |

Ive got a 22" and i love it. I bought mine used on ebay, so i dont know what they cost new, but definitely check them out. |
***Hey everyone,
I'm kinda picky when it comes to chinas. I'm looking for a china that isn really very harsh at all. Something that would blend really well, and even have crash-like qualitites. Thanks! ***Jojo Mayer Fierce Crash I own a JoJo Mayer Fierce Crash 18". Its got more crash than chinese qualities and blends really well with other dark cymbals (My leopard ride/HHX Studio Crash/... and even my AAX Fusion hats.) I had to special order mine from GC. I couldnt find it anywhere online. Give them a try. Imagine a slightly trashy Zildjian 18" K Custom Medium crash. Its got a good amount of sustain also... If the fierce crash isnt trashy enough, check out the o-zone crashes. I never played a "Crash of Doom" (Zildjian) but i believe its supposed to be the same general concept - a trashy crash. |
Looking for new crashes. Not sure what i should buy.
Type of music : General Rock, nothing heavy, wanting to play "clean" songs Already Considering : Sabian HHX Evolution 16", Sabian HHX Studio 16", Zildjian A Custom 16", Zildjian A custom Fast crash 16". I could get all 4 but im not sure if i need all of them. just wanted an opinoin whether its too many or also if there are others i should consider. or sizes eg maybe 18". thanks |
HHX Groove hats....the darker sibiling of the AAX Stage Hats....as versatile as it gets...now available in dark!
Thanks man, much appreciated. It just so happens that my local music shop has a pair in stock (and they NEVER have anything in stock), i'll be trying them out. |
My drums just came in today and i'm really excited! For my cymbal selection I was looking into a 20" AA medium-heavy ride. Would that fit in with a 17" AAXplosion crash and a pair of 14" AAX stage hats?
|
Yes it would, Kent.
|
yes it would
|
i tried out some hhx groove hats a while ago, and really liked them, but had some doubts towards whether or not they would blend in with my 18" aaxplosion crash and my 17" metal-x crash, and my new 20" a medium ride. they sounded extremely opposite from each other, but i really liked it. would it be a good blend, or a bad blend.
i tried the aax hats and didn't really like the sound from them, i generally like darker hats. any recommendations? |
if you like darker, get darker...but they probably would mesh too well with your exisiting setup
|
K zildjian/custom lines make some nice dark hats, also the HH Makes some of my fav hats, byzance ain't far behind
|
Hi i am looking to get a new ride. I want one wiht a huge bell. I was thinking about the Z mega bell, but everyone on the forms are bashing the Z line. So what are some good rides with big bells. thanks.
|
The best in the Z custom line are the rides. I personally own the Mega bell ride, and love it to death. Loud, bright and pingy.
There is also the HH Power Bell ride. It is very powerful, but less "raw" than the Zildjian. More of a refined sound. |
Whats the difference between a Zil. A medium crash 20" and medium ride 20"? Just relabeled? And what is the Medium ride like? I was thinking of getting it cuz i want a ride that has some ping but also wash and a nice crash!
|
ritey,
i'm looking for a cymbal set to go on my new sonor 2005 kit as i don't want to put on some of my old brass cymbals. i'm looking to pay not much more than £150- £170 thanks in advance |

This ride is very, very bright and washy. There wasn't much ping at all (on the one I played, they are all different). Never tried the 20" crash, so no comment. And Logical_Harm The first one I would recommend is Paiste PST-5. I'm not sure on price though. After that, Wuhan. I would stay away from beginner Zildjian and Sabian. If you could save up maybe £60 more you might be able to buy an A Zildjian Pack, whihc is well worth it. The Hi-hats you get are stunning, and the ride is nice, but I didn't like it (see above description). Never tested an A crash for some reason. |

Yeah, Sabian beginners = B8, B8 Pro, Pro Sonix.
I think there are normal ZXT packs for £160, ZXT Rock packs are around £190 and the titaniums (do not get them) are a complete rip-off at around £280. I've heard PST-5 are the best beginner pack options (maybe go for some Wuhans if you can find any in Britain, I've never seen any in Scotland) so I would go for them. |
well i've had a quick look and found this...
