Yeah, Blind Guardian started as Speed/Thrash, so they have the ground work for all the heavier genres laid out for them.
So, I was just relistening to the Suidakra album that Neuro uploaded. Man, these guys rock. Seriously. What a fantastic album, and it's based on the Celtic myths of the UK, which is a bonus. |
I'm not a fan of their old stuff at all.
"Somewhere Far Beyond" and previous albums, I find better than most of the newer material Blind Guardian released. Though BG is in my top 5 favorite bands, so everything they've released I'll buy :) |
ooohhh...new drummer eh?
looks cool, with similar beard to the system AND QOTSA guys... likes good bands, well, soilwork aren't good, but still... In other news I now have all the bodom albums on my computer |

bodom? FTR is my fave, then hatecrew, then 'breeder and something wild lastly |
bodom?
FTR is my fave, then hatecrew, then 'breeder and something wild lastly
HCDR over Hatebreeder? For someone who likes FTR best that surprises me I'd think Hatebreeder would be the closest to that. |

I like angels don't kill and needled, sixpounder and lil bloodred better I haven't had time to listen to the songs I didn't already have much though |

I haven't had time to listen to the songs I didn't already have much though
Those songs are great. Lil' Bloodred Riding Hood is amazing; I love the chorus keyboard part. I do agree with SP though, I think Hatebreeder is definately up there with Follow the Reaper. |
I think it's about time bodom's genre got a real name, like extreme power metal or something. I think it's starting to get big enough. I'm a big fan of the genre, with my favorites being Bodom, Norther, and you can even argue that Wintersun is highly powermetal influenced. Skyfire and Imperanon are bands that have potential for the future, I think they will turn into something good.
Would you put Kalmah with these bands? I'd almost consider them melodic death, but you could argue it is extreme power metal like the others. |

The vocals might be a little different, but overall, I think they are pretty alike. I think for Bodom's genre we should make up something. Like Reaper Metal or something. Pretty lame, but there you are. |
I think Extreme Power Metal makes sense, and it's way easier to say than Power/speed with harsh vocals. Kalmah though has a much more dissonant sound than the others, and more blastbeats. It's hard to hear any upbeat powermetal melodies like in the others.

True, Extreme Power Metal sounds good. But I do think they have a little thrash (in their older stuff) and some melodeth in them. Kalmah is different, but I don't think they are different enough to be considered entirely in another genre. |
What about Extremetal? :p
Picked up Dream Evil's "The Book Of Heavy Metal" yesterday. Fucking great album...plus, it came with a DVD that was entertaining. Studio and live footage and whatnot. Their guitarist (forgot his name) starts playing with his teeth at one point...extremely funny. |

http://www.centurymedia.com/index2.htm The #1 source for lots of music. :p Download "The Book Of Heavy Metal". Cheesiest lyrics ever, but it's got a great feel to it...it almost has a "march" type beat. |

I've heard of the band, they have more heavy metal influence than powermetal influence.
|

Nooooo... MUCH much worse. :p Unbelievable music though. I think on their earlier releases, Dream Evil had more of a power metal influence...however, this one IS more traditional metal sounding than power metal. Yet they still have the power metal outfits (ie medieval wargear). |

Cheesiness is an element in power metal IMO. |

If the link takes you directly to the Century Media homepage... Click the audio link up top, then scroll down to D...and they should be under Dream Evil. |

what, he'll upload the book of heavy metal? Dream evil heavily reminds me of Dio (maybe because of their vocalist). Cheesy as hell but still fun.
