No, I'm just perplexed by the fact that people actually seem to give two ****s about what we say.

It's an internet messageboard, an anonymous text-based social environment, which in the grand scheme of things is minute and unimportant. Why are people getting so worked up over what people like me and Dargon say? It's not a big deal. This place has one advantage over real-time ocnversations: you can put us on the ignore list. I truly concur with and understand your perspective here, but if we all start puting each other on ignore list don't you think that'll defeat the purpose of communication ? Which is kinda the reason why MX exists on the first place. My point is this: is it really that hard to just not be a jerk to someone regardless whether its on the internet or not ? Conversely, is it worth it to get worked up over the whole thing in the first place? The mods tell us to shut up too.

Myself, I get my kicks by messing with people's heads, though for the most part I only do it to those who have it coming to them. I admit I have a temper, and I can get pretty irritable when real life starts to back up on me. But I'm not a bad guy.

If you look around here, you'll learn fast that stupidity is ubiquitous. Everyone's going to say something embarassing and/or retarded sooner or later, some more than others. And some of these turn into cliches which many of us "vets" endure on a daily basis both hear and in the real world.

For example, at the music shop I go to outside of my campus, I decided one day to try out this really nice acoustic guitar while I was waiting for the repairs on my electric. I checked to see if it was in tune, then played the intro to Roundabout by Yes. One of the clerks actually thanked me for having good taste. Why?

Because there's a group of teenage punk-wannabes who regularly file through the store playing every radio single that's been shoved down our throats since the early 90's, and only a couple of them are any good. I was testing out distortion and flanger pedals once by playing Strange Wings by Savatage and Eagleheart by Stratovarius, and a couple of those kids thought I was making it up off the top of my head. And they still thought I was a bad guitarist because I had never learned Enter Sandman.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. After hearing **** like that for so long, you just want to kill the ones spewing it. I mean like really kill. We're talking Tom Savini death scenes here.

Yeah, I agree with you, Steerpike. It's just annoying hearing people play "Smells Like Teen Spirit" all the time. People get into music just to be "cool" and "hip", and that's wrong. I fell in love with music at an early age, because my dad was constantly playing rock [I]all [/I] the time. I'm glad I picked up guitar, it saved my life.
