I didnt know, thanks :thumb:

Indeed a good thing to know.
The Wall is based on Roger Water's life, if anyone didn't know.
Kind of but not really. A lot of people think that it's about roger's life however this is untrue, although there are similarities between roger and pink (dad dying in the war being the most obvious). anyways if you've seen the movies or know of others what are your opinions? |
Looks like classic rock really is dead :(
The spirit of classic rock on mx is this thread. |
I think classic rock has always been popular with a certain group of people (mainly musicians), and always will be, even though it left the mainstream. That of course, is what makes it classic, it's longevity and timelessness.

It certainly has longevity, do you think it'll last as long as lets say classical music has? I hope it does, but I think If it were to it would likely only be a very select few bands that are listened to, and it would probably be grouped into a larger period of time, and not nessecarily recognized on it's own. |
^Just think in 20 years though. My kids will be saying "omg leik j00 listen 2 ur parentss musik????? lolololo fagg0rt". :(

That's why you must raise your children on Led Zeppelin and constant beatings. |
i just had to bump the thread.
|
classic rock is coming back there is no doubt about that
|
That's why you must raise your children on Led Zeppelin and constant beatings.
Will do :thumb: |
the thing is classic rock wont ever totally die out. there will always be people who listen to it.
|
^Exactly. Or possibly there will be a complete revival.
|
I am fourteen, and a classic rock fan. Many other fourteen year olds are classic rock fans. I love Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd, and so on. The thing is though, that the definition of classic rock is changing. Think about it, in twenty years, Zeppelin and The Doors won't be classic rock, they'll be ancient rock. The classic rock we know today won't always be classic rock. But the spirit of it will live on.
By the way, it does seem as though classic rock is having a small-scale revival. |
Wtf. OmG leik the darkness is bringing back clasik roxorz!!11! U r stupoid
 That is pretty much what everybody in my school says.
yes the darkness and velvet revolver are doing a great job :thumb: |
Okay since this thread needs some new conversation instead of just weather or not it's a revival and i was reminded of these while i was away for a few days here goes.
Musicals done by classic rock bands... your opinions? These aren't like guys and dolls or anything these are movies that have been made to the music of concept albums, the two that i know of, and have seen being the wall and tommy. Tommy is obviously put to the music of tommy, which as i'm sure most of us know is a concept album by the who featuring this deaf dumb and blind kid. His father died in the war and never had a chance to meet tommy, then his mom gets together with another, very unpleasant man, which I beleive is the cause of tommy's lack of senses. Anyways i quite liked this movie, it was interesting, good music although some scenes were a bit crazy (acid queen and such) it was generally very good. The Wall, obviously based of Pink floyd's "the wall" and set to that music the wall is more disturbing and more sort of confusing (not the best word by I can't think of anyother way to put it) then tommy. Like tommy the main character (a singer named pink[played by bob geldof]) lost his dad in the war. The movie is about not only the death of his father but his experiences with drugs etc... basically i guess the story of his life. There are both "real" scenes and animated scenes and over all the movie is pretty disturbing, i didn't enjoy it as much as tommy, and you definitely have to be in the right mood to watch scene after scene of watching this man's horrible anxiety.
See if you can find an animated movie called "Heavy Metal"...Led Zeppelin and others played the music for it. I saw it in a theatre in San Diego 1981 or 1982. It was pretty cool. Want some other Classic rock to seriously check out...Nazareth (Hair of the Dog and Love Hurts, etc.) and you have to check out Robert Plant's (Zepp's Lead singer) solo album "Pictures at Eleven" The song "Big Log" is completely bad to the bone if you like crystal clear pure guitar, as well as many other good songs on the album. Jackson Browne was decent, Bad Company is cool as well as 38 Special, Steve Miller Band. Love Dire Straits, LZ, ZZ, and all the regular picks. A TRUE Classic Rock enthusiast would have to appreciate Steely Dan and I gotta give tons of credit to one of the very best and underappreciated real rock performers....Mr. Bob Seger! |

classic rock is the greatest thing in the world. musically at least. i hate bands trying to recreate the sound, because its just pointless. great classic rock bands werent trying to recreate anything. it was a new sound. if bands now want to be really good, they should try and do something new that is actually good. not just recycle old stuff.
|
But that doesn't mean they can't have a similiar sound.
|
What happened to Henrix? I hear all these posts about everyone BUT Jimi. Ummm.....You're all forgetting one of the greatest guitarists ever. Anyways, classic rock is huge in Michigan. It's kicking pop punk's @$$! In your face Simple Plan!
|
Everyone autmoatically acknowledges Hendrix. It's a given, and shouldn't really need to be repeated.
(and I know there are people who like to go on about how 'overrated' he was, but overrated or not, everyone has to appreciate the skill he had at making superb music) Anyway, as for classic rock, I've been recently listening to Deep Purple's 'Made In Japan'. |
Actually, I've just looked up a definition of classic. Agreed, classic will always be classic. Sure, in twenty years classic rock will be VERY old, but it'll still be classic.
|
I heard a film critic on tv, define 'classic' as something 'which is as enjoyable every time it is seen/listened to/read as it was the first time'. I think that's a good description. Real 70's rock etc lasts, while this new age, hard rock crap is throwaway rubbish.
|
I think Hendrix is overrated (refering to two posts up), his Blues seems waterd down, yet he really tried to accosiate himself with it. His Rock was of course good though.
|
Yeah, wether or not something Hendrix did was good or not so good, you have to respect him for the fact that he was genuinely trying to make good music.
P.S. Is there really not a single other person here who likes wishbone ash? I know their later stuff was hit and miss, but 'Argus' is a perfect album. |
I don't think Hendrix is overrated. He deserves every bit of credit that he gets. Obviously people wouldn't say so if he wasn't that good. The only case where he is overrated in my opinon is on that stupid rolling stone guitarist list .
|
What a wonderful thread!
|
it is a very hawt thread i'll give it that :thumb:
|
But my question is, what is the one guitar that made rock? The guitar that when mentioned, brings classic rock to the mind. Which guitar is that?
