I think it's way cool that Dave and Janick play strats. It's not just for blues players you know, and guys like Dave, Janick, Ritchie Blackmore and Yngwie Malmsteen have proven that.

And the odd reason is?

TojesDolan 02-14-2006 07:29 PM

Fender is amazing for everything.

I don't really see the difference (note the fact I haven't played those many guitars either) of using "more metal" guitars over Fenders, which are usually thought for Rock.

I mean... Maiden uses them. amirite

that's gotta account for sumfin

clairvoyant 02-14-2006 07:42 PM

Well, Maiden does use fat strats, would could account for the difference.

Yngwie Malmsteen manages to get a good metal tone out of single coils.

Crysiss 02-14-2006 07:45 PM

I own one maiden CD. Well, owned. My uncle came by when he was drunk and stole it.

It was the Edward The Great CD.

np. Rainmaker

TojesDolan 02-14-2006 07:45 PM

I thought it was more in the effects used.

Although the rest of the guitar counts too, so hehe for me.

I thought they used Custom Strats (well except ol' Janick, who uses the same guitar he used before he made it big :p )

-The Frank 02-15-2006 02:01 AM

I have a MIA fender jazz bass :(

me too.

/has a marvelous Fender with Hotrails that is excellent for playing metal:)

ashman 02-15-2006 10:46 AM

Bah, you all have fancy rigs.

Mine is the pinnacle of cheapness;

Squire P-Bass -> Vamp pro -> PC

and

Vintage VS6 (SG copy in laymans terms) -> Digitech Deathmetal distortion (If the song needs that 'OMG that tone is so heavy and digital it makes everyone cry' effect, but I don't use it much) -> Vamp Pro -> PC

I'm only after upgrading my Bass atm, I'm after a Fender Precision Bass, maybe a '76 (I think that's what Harris uses) and then I'll upgrade the pickups in my Vintage, since they're the only things letting it down, everything else about it is perfect, it's better then a Mex Strat IMO.

Deth 02-15-2006 10:57 AM

I've never wanted a p-bass. They always sound so one-dimensional.

I love my Spector though.

ashman 02-15-2006 11:05 AM

I love the P-Basses tone, Harris has more or less the tone that I want, so it's perfect for me :p

Deth 02-15-2006 11:12 AM

I play stuff other than Maiden, so it's not the best thing for me. Plus, the trebly tone is irritating alone.

As everyone should know, the Poem Bruce reads at the start of Paschendale on the DOD tour and on the DOTR album/DVD is Anthem for doomed youth by Wilfred Owen.

He's a superb and moving First world war poet, Dying 6 days before Armistice day in 1918, while crossing a river towards German forces on the other bank under heavy fire.

Read about him here

English Coursework? :p

Yeah I heard about that guy, sucks that he died before the treaty.

the_uber_penguin 02-16-2006 08:40 AM

Wilfred Owen was very inspired by Siegfried Sassoon, who´s poem "Suicide In The Trenches" I turned into an Iron Maiden-y punk rock tune.

I´ll upload it when I get back home in a few days.
