I like this song. There is no tongue and cheek attitude to it.

The Who - Tommy

Badmoon 01-25-2005 08:46 PM

Maybe Tommy, but definitley not for awhile.

BludgeonySteve 01-25-2005 08:46 PM

*Jimi Hendrix is a very underrated singer.

edit: yes. ****it. Review Tommy. Somebody has to.

Johnny B. Good 01-25-2005 08:48 PM

Yes, Jimi is an uderrated singer. I was listening to Little Wing earlier and realized how nice his voice is. I'm also realizing how good a drummer Ginger BAker is

Sweet, you liked my recomendation :thumb:
Maybe you should review Wheels of Fire

Against Miik! 01-25-2005 08:50 PM

Jimi could play lead well and sing well at the same time too. Just incredible. Thats something very few guys can do.

Badmoon 01-25-2005 08:53 PM

While I was playing some of Jimi's stuff, I felt that he was oddly held higher than others. I have a much harder time playing something by Duane Allman, Chet Atkins, etc.

Anyone else feel the same? His stuff if really fun to play though.

Badmoon 01-25-2005 08:55 PM

Featured Song: Grateful Dead - Pride of Cucamonga

I really like this song. Phil Lesh takes lead vocals and had wrote the song, and does a great job. The Country vibe really drags me in, and the pedal steel in the background is very interesting.

Country Rock at its finest, in my opinion.

Not really sure what you mean. ARe you trying to say hes overrated as a musician? His live stuff will prove hes not. I can play most of the studio versions of his songs, but he just goes crazy live. He is a master of improvisation. He can make even the ugliest sounds beautfiul. He was just an extremely uniuqe talent.

Johnny B. Good 01-25-2005 08:57 PM

I wish I was as skilled as Jimi is on guitar :upset:

Badmoon 01-25-2005 08:59 PM

Well, I'm not saying he's not fantastic (He is unbelievably good, and posses talents that other guitarist don't have), but I was playing "Power To Love" on my friends Guitarport (I believe that's its name) and everything was beautifully written, but it wasn't as difficult as many make it out to be. And I'm not trying to say I'm a great guitarist, but I'm sure some of you feel that way.

I might be able to do Tommy eventually. I mean, I'm no Badmoon, but I could still do it.

BludgeonySteve 01-25-2005 09:07 PM

Well obviously Jimi's overrated when it comes to technical skill. But you try writing and inivating as well as he did ;)

+his live stuff was much harder to play than his recorded.

Johnny B. Good 01-25-2005 09:08 PM

Who do you guys think does have the best technical guitar skill

Against Miik! 01-25-2005 09:11 PM
Who do you guys think does have the best technical guitar skill
That would be leaving the realm of classic rock, but the first thing that comes to mind as far as classic rock goes is George Harrison.

BludgeonySteve 01-25-2005 09:12 PM

George Harrison, best technical player? I'm not challenging that. Just not believing it.

Against Miik! 01-25-2005 09:13 PM
George Harrison, best technical player? I'm not challenging that. Just not believing it.
Different definitons of technical maybe?

Johnny B. Good 01-25-2005 09:14 PM

I'd have to say Mr. Clapton is the best technical player. him or as Milk stated Mr. Harrisson

BludgeonySteve 01-25-2005 09:16 PM

I was talking about difficulty of the guitar parts that a person can play.

Badmoon 01-25-2005 09:17 PM

I'll always bring up Jerry Garcia, being I originally got into the Grateful Dead because of his guitar work on some Garcia & Grisman stuff. This style is tough to nail down; not always the same.

Take "Terrapin Station" for example. That solos featured on that song are outstanding. But he is his best with David Grisman during his later years. His playing is fantastic on albums like Shady Grove.

Brian May is also extremely talented.

EDIT: And of course Steve Howe.

Against Miik! 01-25-2005 09:18 PM

Wait, I have one...David Gilmour maybe?

Badmoon 01-25-2005 09:19 PM

His emotion is much higher than his technical ability.

Badmoon 01-25-2005 09:19 PM

Did anyone listen to the **** song?

BludgeonySteve 01-25-2005 09:20 PM

We're talking technical skill. Gilmour's a brilliant songwriter but not much when it comes to technical ability.

Alex Lifeson's up there.

edit: No^. I will right now though.

Johnny B. Good 01-25-2005 09:20 PM
I was talking about difficulty of the guitar parts that a person can play.
I was thinking that and their ability to change chords well, make their playing look simple, etc.

BludgeonySteve 01-25-2005 09:21 PM

Well obviously it looks simple if it is simple.
