Oh right, i'm with you now.

Talented members, just cant write interesting songs. I find myself just waiting for the guitar solos then turning it off.

But the guitar solos, OMG.

kurrpt 04-03-2006 01:21 PM

damn...

guitar solos really sell a band for me too. That HAS to be weird as sh!t. Not being able to come up with a interesting rhythm section, but as soon as its "solo time", like the light bulb goes off.

Im picturing some dead looking person sniffing too much glue/gasoline/paint playing some redundant rhythm section, someone kicking him in the pants as if to remind him "YOU'RE ON!" , him snappin out of a comatose state to play some ridiculous solo, only to return to the zombified state to finish out the track.

Now im intrigued

Squirrel 04-03-2006 01:23 PM

I suppose theyre interesting, being technical death, they go all over the place, but whereas most tech DM keeps my attention, Muhammeds monotone vocals and rather bland riffs tend to bore me. His lead playing is out of this world though.

In their entire 2 album career so far, i only actually really really like one single riff.

!!!

kurrpt 04-03-2006 01:28 PM

i guess if they only have 2 albums out, it could be a lot worse. Maybe they'll pick it up for the next one.

Squirrel 04-03-2006 01:33 PM

yeah maybe, theyve moved up to 7 strings down a full step, so hopefully thatll offer some great riffing

that and a possible classical cover, should be interesting

their leads are 'classical' [ugh] sounding, but a full piece would be cool

AA-12 04-03-2006 01:38 PM

Meh, Necrophagist has never bored me. Then again, i'm kind of hard to bore. I find DT to be one of the top 3 most interesting bands, and most people sleep to them.

kurrpt 04-03-2006 01:39 PM

when you say DT, you mean Dark Tranquility, and not Dream Theater right?

AA-12 04-03-2006 01:59 PM

No, Dream Theater.

I'm Charming 04-03-2006 02:33 PM

Dream Theater can be boring at times, though I still love their music.

Dark Tranquillity owns though.

MegaMustaine 04-03-2006 02:34 PM

I appreciate DT's musicianship and compositions, but I just don't really enjoy it. Petrucci is a hell of a player though.

AA-12 04-03-2006 02:45 PM

Dark Tranquility though, they do bore the hell out of me.

kurrpt 04-03-2006 02:45 PM
No, Dream Theater.
o, thats what i thought...

as far as dream theater goes, im only a fan of about 10% of their music. I do, on the other hand, LOVE their live show (saw them last tuesday)

Thor 04-03-2006 02:46 PM

Necrophagist musically are one of the most amazing bands that I've ever come across. It's just those damn awful vocals that make them a band that I just can't listen to.

...and Dream Theater is a band that I have a love-hate relationship. I really want to like them just because I'm a big prog metal fan, but their music just seems uninspired and trite. Sure they're great at all of their instruments but their songwriting abilities just plain suck. I really like the songs "Metropolis" and "This Dying Soul" though. Those are a few occasions where they really got it right.

for great technical metal I listen to Death. :)

Shadows 04-03-2006 02:46 PM

How unusual. Dark Tranquillity and Necrophagist I love, but I've learned the hard way that Dream Theater isn't my thing.

Squirrel 04-03-2006 02:58 PM

Dark Tranquility, especially Character, are a fantastic band.

Thor 04-03-2006 02:59 PM

Well I love Necrophagist as long as there aren't any vocals. The intro to "Stabwound" is constantly being played in my CD player.

MegaMustaine 04-03-2006 03:09 PM

I play Stabwound on my mp3 player a lot, and switch the song when the vocals come in.

Thor 04-03-2006 03:10 PM

The same goes for me. The opening guitar sweeps and shred bass are so great, though.

That intro gives me an eargasm each time I hear it.

I'm having a great day, ftw. Decided to skip the first day of the new term. Since it's just a "hello people, we're going to discuss _______ and hope you like it, here's a sylibus and you can go now".

So I didn't miss anything.

AA-12 04-03-2006 03:12 PM

What the hell, my views are messed up. I listen to Necrophagist 80% for the vocals :-x

Hmm.

I can't stand the vocals. Kelly Clarkson's vocals > Muhammad's

Squirrel 04-03-2006 03:18 PM

Well i do the ultimate school skip.

I left school ages ago :)

MegaMustaine 04-03-2006 03:18 PM

I couldn't imagine Necrophagist with any other vocals other than Muhammad's though.

MegaMustaine 04-03-2006 03:19 PM

BTW, Sixpounder live is kickass. I am still thinking about the show last Friday.

Are you Dead Yet and In Your Face were also quite good live, and I didn't think they would be. I wish they would have played BBT though.

Alex 04-03-2006 03:25 PM

when i saw them on march 24 in TO they were in-fvcking-credible. Sixpunder, Needled and Follow the reaper were amazing. And Are you Dead yet was sweet

I'm Charming 04-03-2006 03:37 PM

Alright. I'd like some educated guesses here.

How much for on trade in could I get for,

A Jackson JS30. Floating bridge and FR.
I payed 320 new, it was on sale. It was 400-450ish not on sale.

Any ideas as to what the trade in value would be?
I assume it's a rip off?

MegaMustaine 04-03-2006 04:08 PM

I can't remember all the songs, but it started like this:

Are you Dead Yet?
Needled 24/7
Six Pounder
Follow the Reaper

MegaMustaine 04-03-2006 04:53 PM

Now my horrible cell phone quality pics from the show.

When the played Needled, huge light show/pyrotechnics:

I have cell phone pix on my myspace. Except I'm 3 feet from the stage.

I'll post them later in this thread for those who don't have myspace.

MegaMustaine 04-03-2006 05:17 PM

I could have gotten closer if I really wanted to, but in KC there is the pit below and an upper area with a rail here you can see everything, so I went there instead. You get a better view of everything.
