Ender's Shadow is so much better than Ender's Game it's ridiculous.

The whole Bean deal is so much better, it's less about action and much more about politics and decisions.

Ender's Game is like Tool, and Ender's Shadow is like TMV.
Nah.
also. gav's so scene it hurts.
Old joke. Get new material.
you should read The Naked Lunch.

that book will **** you up.
It's a decent book; Burroughs has better stuff.

Kerouac >>>>>>> Burrroughs

This forum was better before you posted in it like you do now.
The Catcher In The Rye is a good book.
Yeah it's pretty good. Holden's relatable.

I'll agree with everything you said but this.

You obviously haven't read enough Burroughs if you think Kerouac is better.

Ender's Shadow sucked balls. Ender's Game is where it is at.

Read "On the Road" and that will change.

Burroughs shoots heroin and writes stream of consciousness; you're probably one of those people that jerk off to him but have no idea what he means, to be honest. I don't know what he means half the time.

We never read anything way radddd in english class until youre a senior. Then again, my english teacher last year said when he first read some of the books we read that year, he thought they all kind of sucked, then he read them again and college and now "The Awakening" is his favorite book. thought it kind of blew, it was extremely straightforward and didnt make me think about anything besides 'o noez theres a chick whos not a housewife like the other chicks because shes trying to bone some dude with the same name as me on the side'.

I've read plently of Kerouac and Burroughs, I was heavily into the beat thing in 10th grade.

Burroughs acutally was not really a junkie during any of his major writings, I think he really was only using heavily during The Naked Lunch but that was written over such a long period of time that it's hard to determine.

The difference between Burroughs and Kerouac is acutally the complete opposite of what you said. Half the time I find when reading Kerouac that half of what he is writing is useless dribble (Which is funny because on the other side of the spectrum, I absolutely hate Hemingway), where as with Burroughs he's always being satrical or pointing out some flaw.

I think I like Burroughs so much because you have to invest time, I don't think anyone gets The Naked Lunch the first time through completely. I'm sure many are replused you know, because that's one of the main purposes of it. But whatever.

And by the way I like the nice burn in there about how I like things but don't really get them. It's kind of like you and ya know.. coming in this forum and pretending you're super into hardcore, when.. ya know I first came here and you were like BLINK 182 OMgz.

Get off your high horse and go floor punchin' budd-o.

The best thing you'll probably read in high school is Virginia Woolf.

And she isn't that great.

Maybe you'll read "Crime and Punishment" but ugh, that's like 300 pages longer than it should be.

cbmartinez 09-13-2006 09:01 PM

Read Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis. He's the same guy that did American Psycho and Laws(Rules?) Of Attraction. Probably one of the best books I've read. If you like Catcher, you'll love it. It's written in that style.

Other than that, I suggest The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. Incredible piece of work.

cobert 09-13-2006 09:45 PM

Yeah, Im pretty sure its Rules of Attraction. They made some crappy movie out of it with the dude from Dawsons Creek.

I didn't read any of that but the last 2 paragraps.

I like Blink 182 but I didn't walk in here all "omfg blink is emo." I listened to Hot Cross and CTTS. So yeah...you can stop talking now because no one in this forum really likes you all that much.

Yeah, I'm not going to start an argument with you. I don't even not like you.

PS - Hardcore sucks; I listen to emo. It's different.

/copied from AIM

i was cutting someting in my dorm with a utility knife. it slipped and cur DEEP into my wrist. the bone was exposed. one of my tendons and an artery popped out and i was bleeding profusely. it was squirting out and stuff. my friend james across the hall called public safety (my school's 911) and they called an ambulance. so, i was escorted to the ambulance waiting in front of my dorm by 5 cops and a completely blood soaked rag over my wrist. everyone outside thought i attempted suicide and the cops did, too. finally, after waiting for 3 hours and my hand shaking, numb, and blue (yes, blue) from bloodloss (i was bleeding all over the floor; easily lost half a pint of blood), they stitched me up with 7 stitches. the doctor said i was the luckiest patient shes ever seen; fraction of an inch to the right and i would've hit my artery so i would've died in 10 minutes. fraction of an inch to the left and i would;ve severed my tendon so i wouldnt be able to move my wrist ever again (which means no bass or guitar...ever). now, everyone on campus thinks im the suicidal emo kid, i cant use my wrist for 2 weeks, im in a ****load of pain, and the school therapist/shrink is calling me to make an appointment because he thinks it was suicide and a cry for help...so yeah...

...I hate my life. I'm lucky to be alive. I'm typing with one hand. :(

RetiredAt21 09-14-2006 11:25 AM

thats horibble man. i hope it heals ok.

cbmartinez 09-14-2006 06:11 PM

Jesus Gav, I'm sorry man. I hope all is well.

bottlerocket 09-14-2006 07:03 PM

Thanks, guys. If I can't play bass again, I won't know what to do with myself.

-Gav

cbmartinez 09-14-2006 07:06 PM

As long as you set it and let it heal properly and then exercise the shit out of it, you should be okay.

bottlerocket 09-14-2006 07:09 PM

^ She, my doctor, said she reexamined pics of the wrist's cut and one tendon is severed. It may not heal properly so I can't use it, hence, I can't play. I may need surgery, too.

Man, my life's intense right now.
