FIFTY??!! did you pay for these cds? cuz that's quite a bit of moolah. the thing i hate about buying a lot of records, or cds in your case, at one time is that you never have time to listen to them all right away. you might listen to one, and like it, so you listen to it a couple more times...and then you try another and like it, and listen to it a few more times. after a while you realize you've only listened to about a half of them.

at least thats what happened to me. i have about 200 records i haven't listened to yet.
He got them for free somehow, he'd have to tell you the story. His landlord had 500 Cd's and offered to let him have some or something like that.

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 02:12 PM

Actully it was more like 80. :D

My dad's landlord found 700 cds in a empty appartment and sold them to him for 50$ and I got to go through them all last night.

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 02:15 PM

RockAndRoll 12-11-2004 02:20 PM

We've all heard of him, but not heard him.

This is now the "What kind of person you want for Christmas" thread.

I know I will, Although I did see something on them in a book at my school library. I'm sure most people here have heard one of their members play though.

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 02:39 PM

i've heard of Spirit..just cuz of the lame Stairway blah blah thing.

i've heard of Roy Harper.

never heard of Pauper...

so no Poco?

lunch998 12-11-2004 02:44 PM

Yea Spirit comes up because of their song Taurus and it's resemblence to the intro to Stairway. I actually have not heard Taurus, I still need to get Spirit's first album.

Badmoon 12-11-2004 02:48 PM
thats cool. so are there bluegrass bands you listen to regularly? like buy their cd's and stuff? i haven't really found a bluegrass band that i listen to regularly, my guitar teacher just gives me traditional songs and i dunno who wrote them.
Yeah, I commonly listen to different forms of Bluegrass bands.

Some being
---------------
Bill Monroe
Flatt & Scruggs
Old & In the Way
Tony Rice
David Grisman
The String Cheese Incident
Doc Watson
Leftover Salmon
ect

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-11-2004 02:50 PM
Have any of you heard "American Prayer" by Jim M.?
heard? i think i've read some of it, unless im thinking of the wrong thing.

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 03:19 PM

Badmoon do you ever wish there was a banjo forum?

Badmoon 12-11-2004 03:40 PM

Nah, hardly anyone would post.

RockAndRoll 12-11-2004 03:41 PM

I wonder if you would get any *good* responses to a banjo thread in the guitar forum, some of them may play banjo.

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 03:43 PM

ya it wouldn't be very popular. i notice a lot of the guys in the guitar forums are mostly about metal...not a lot of banjo in metal.

Badmoon 12-11-2004 03:44 PM

Most the banjo owners here don't really play banjo. They're the guys who buy every instrument they see, and never play it.

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 03:48 PM

ya i know people like that. im cheap enough that i would only buy something i would play all the time, except my ukelele, i bought that more as a souvenir from hawaii..but it is fun it play.

i really want a Sitar, but no where in my city has one i can play.
i also want a mandolin, just because a lot of the songs i write/play would sound good with mandolin in them.

Badmoon 12-11-2004 03:51 PM

Sitar takes a lot more dedication than other instruments. You usually have to be taught to learn anything. And usually the only places to learn are Indian temples.

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 03:55 PM

i better ring up old Ravi. is he still kickin?

is anyone else here who plays an instrument extremely uptight about it being in tune? i can't stand when its out of tune just by a little bit. i think it might be more of an acoustic thing, because with distortion you don't notice as much.

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 04:13 PM

hey badmoon whats the significance of Terrapin Station? i heard it mentioned in one of the Deads songs on Workingmans Dead, and then they also had the album. does it have any meaning?

Badmoon 12-11-2004 04:31 PM

Well, if you hadn't know "Terrapin" are a small type of turtle. In many cultures they are valued as the animal of God. And there is of course the myths that our universe is actually a Terrapin's shell.

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 05:02 PM

interesting interesting. turtles are my favourite animals, i collect wood/stone carvings of them. i never knew terrapin and turtle had any connection though.

so are the Grateful Dead just fans of turtles...or are they trying to show deeper meanings with the whole universe/god thing?
