Have you guys seen 16 Candles?
Sometimes you have to bend the law in order to protect it.
 That's good shit. |
No, but have you seen 16 Myspace is Gay?
|
Uh nope
|
lawl, I have a myspace but you gays would destroy me when you saw a couple of the pictures.
|
Would you guys mind if I copy and paste some of the stuff from the first page of this thread for the education of another forum, I just looked around but the stuff here are the most concise defintion I have seen.

You need a myspace to view peoples pictures, so you don't have to worry about me. |

It's not our material, but I doubt Shane would mind. However, the metalcore bands he list aren't right. Most of them are mosh metal/heavy hardcore. If you're gonna list reccomendations for metalcore, try Botch, Converge, All Else Failed, Fordirelifesake, Every Time I Die, and Nora. |
The ones he listed are tr00 metalcore, like a heavy metal influence and a heavy hardcore influence. Bands like Atreyu are really 90% metal, 10% hardcore. Anyway, other bands that are true are early PTW, Nora, DBS, etc. I still use metalcore to describe Atreyu, A7X and AILD, but technically, they're metal bands with a small hardcore influence.

Ok then cool, I'll change it around a bit first anyway. If anyone does actually object I won't post it though. |
Hoods are hardcore. Bury Your Dead are hardcore. 100 Demons are hardcore. Clenched Fist are hardcore.
|
First 3 are definitely metalcore.
|
Hoods are most definatly not metalcore. Neither are BYD or 100 Demons.
|
You guys know who I can use as some good examples of post-hardcore?
|
Post-hardcore confuses me.
|
Hopesfall, Trophy Scars, On The Might Of Princes, There Were Wires, Thursday (technically), mewithoutyou, Marigold.
|
Hoods are most definatly not metalcore. Neither are BYD or 100 Demons.
Oopy, they're metalcore. |
They're "metallic hardcore filled with dark lyrics and heavy breakdowns." That's Mike Hoods description. Listen to New Blood. That's certainly not metalcore.
Bury Your Dead are not metalcore either. Listen to All Else Failed or Converge. They sound nothing alike. Same with 100 Demons. Mosh metal or metallic hardcore. |
Nope, sorry oop my man.
|
Bury Your Dead are heavy. There's definitely alot of metal in them. Just because they don't sound like Converge, doesn't mean their not metalcore.
|
You're not even presenting arguements, you're just patronizing me. Your name is in that word, btw.
I'm not gonna argue with Mike Hoods definition of his own band. |
Bury Your Dead are heavy. There's definitely alot of metal in them. Just because they don't sound like Converge, doesn't mean their not metalcore.
That's true, but I still wouldn't call them metalcore. They're just really heavy hardcore. |
Underoath call themselves screamo and hardcore. Are they either? No.
|
Underoath call themselves screamo and hardcore. Are they either? No.
Haha, I knew someone was gonna use an arguement like that. It's a good point, I suppose. This is the only place I've seen Hoods called metalcore though. |
Wtf. 100 Demons are the definition of metalcore. I only analyze music on messageboards though for the most part, because a lot of things depend on attitude. But musically Hoods and 100 Demons are metalcore for sure.
|
If I were to pick one band that defined metalcore, it'd probably be Botch. The vocals in 100 Demons aren't even that intense. Scott Vogel screams harder, and they have a metallic tone too. Does that make Terror metalcore?
|
Some would argue that Terror are metalcore. I wouldn't, but some would.
|
Terror aren't that metallic, especially compared to Bury Your Dead and such.
|

It's just weird metal. 100 Demons has such a metal tone in them. And Terror has heavy vocals, big woop. Ever listen to their guitars or drums?
|

True, BYD are a lot heavier than Terror in both vocals and instrumentaly, but like I said Vogel screams harder than the guy in 100 Demons. 100 Demons may have a more metallic tone, but Terror make up for the tone with more intense vocals. Terror have just as much reason to be the defining band in metalcore as 100 Demons do. |

Yep, distorted guitar and fast drumming. |
INTENSE VOCALS AREN'T RESERVED FOR METAL BANDS....
Sorry Oopy, but you're not making any sense. Terror and 100 Demons really don't have anything in common. |
Distorted guitars, heavy vocals, and both the genres end in core.
|
Vocals aren't really the defining factor between metalcore and hardcore. It's the instruments, so intense vocals isn't the best argument.
|
Oh noes, I've started a genre war!!
If any one has anymore post-hardcore bands that they think sum up the genre, or play an important part in it, can you please post them :thumb:. |
Tragedy have intense vocals. I guess they're metalcore now.
|
Vocals aren't really the defining factor between metalcore and hardcore. It's the instruments, so intense vocals isn't the best argument.
So basically you're saying if they're heavy and have hardcore influences then they're metalcore? |
I don't really understand how this is so confusing oop.
|
So basically you're saying if they're heavy and have hardcore influences then they're metalcore?
50% Metal and 50% Hardcore. I don't get why it's so confusing.
If a band doesn't want to be labeled as metalcore then they should kind of...you know...sound hardcore? |
Maybe it has something to do with me being up at such an ungodly hour without any sleep.
