Creedence Clearwater 12-11-2004 01:57 AM

Yeah my afv album would be a toss up between Another Side of Bob Dylan and Highway 61 revisited. it interesting that you didn't mention Blood on the Tracks, was that an oversite or what. I actually do not own the 1964, only the 1966, but I have enough bootlegs to demonstrate what he was on about.
I cant spell mind, sorry, I have resently be buying /recieving records and those bands/artists are at the forefront. I suppose the avatar gives it away that I love Dylan. Whats your fav album/era/genre/supporting musicians?
I like a lot of different music, so questions like that are tough...I can't have one favorite album. I'd say that my ten favorite albums are Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation, Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millons to Hold Us Back, The Velvet Underground's The Velvet Underground & Nico, Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde, Miles Davis' Bitches Brew, The Who's Who's Next, Funkadelic's Maggot Brain, Jimi Hendrix's Are You Experienced?, The White Album, and Bob Marley's Catch a Fire.

For era, I'd have to say the 70's. Not for Zeppelin and Pink Floyd...there were many records made in that decade that eclipsed Floyd's and Zeppelin's work. Genre is hard to choose, and I don't know what "supporting musicians" are.

yeah, I love VU&N, the who and hendrix is always cool. Sorry i used the term support musicians out of context. As for a genre, I loved blues based material and although attempting to define the music you like into an era, I will go with mid 60's for obvious reasons.

Illmatic 12-11-2004 02:07 AM

Dylan really held the fort in the mid-60's until The Velvet Underground, the Allmans, The Who, and Jimi Hendrix debuted and the Stones and Beatles came into their own.

Creedence Clearwater 12-11-2004 02:09 AM

I agree with that, except that super poer, what where they called? the beatles or something? I gotta go now so cheers, and check out the link.

Well, I said that they came into their own, which was around '66, when they released Revolver; before then they were basically a pop group.

Woodstock 12-11-2004 10:08 AM

 That was hilarious. Thickasabrick was completely wasted.

Are there any Dylan albums similar to Highway 61 Revisited?

Badmoon 12-11-2004 10:38 AM

CR, if you keep consistently posting like you did, I'm taking your telecaster away .
Well, I said that they came into their own, which was around '66, when they released Revolver; before then they were basically a pop group.
Yeah, but a pop group with Blues influence. So, a respectable pop group.

well i think if they released an album like..Sgt Peppers in like '64 the world wouldn't have really been ready for it. they were a great band because they were doing exactly the right thing at the right time. when it was time for a change in the 60's they were always heading up the new direction music was taking.

yikes i suppose i should delete those other posts i made last night
That's what I thought, but some kid is trying to tell me it is more about English Society and it's hardly based on Animal Farm at all.
That's me. Have you read Animal Farm? Have you looked at the lyrics of Animals?

I came to an agreement about this last night. Read the rest of my posts a few pages ago.

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 11:30 AM

ya you guys all talked about all this yesterday, it should be done...what is Animal Farm anyway?

it sounds like a book, i always imagined it being a childrens tv show in England...kids shows are always based around animals.

Against Miik! 12-11-2004 11:43 AM
Its book by George Orwell, Its basically about communism.
so Animals is based off of a book about politics...so could it be considered a political type concept album, or no? i never really thought much into the songs on Animals.

jpj 12-11-2004 12:32 PM

I read Animal Farm in the 6th grade, but I didn't really understand the symbolism ya know since I was only like 11. I'm hoping if I read it again I'll understand the lyrics a little better.

Yea it could be considered political, to an extent.

Woodstock 12-11-2004 12:40 PM

I'm going to start a review on Deja Vu by CSNY. I figure it's about time someone did it.

Badmoon 12-11-2004 01:02 PM

I'm going to review something as well. :)

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 01:48 PM

how do you review something? like do you just write it up and post it? or do you have to ask a mod or something?

i wouldn't mind doing a review..

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 01:50 PM

hey badmoon what kind of songs do you play on your banjo? do you learn folk/folk-rockish songs that have banjo, like neil young?

i heard this eagles song yesterday with good banjo in it, i dont remember the name, it was one of their more well known ones though.

Badmoon 12-11-2004 01:50 PM
hey badmoon what kind of songs do you play on your banjo? do you learn folk/folk-rockish songs that have banjo, like neil young?
I play Bluegrass songs. Not Folk, and rarely Country.

thickasabrick 12-11-2004 01:58 PM

thats cool. so are there bluegrass bands you listen to regularly? like buy their cd's and stuff? i haven't really found a bluegrass band that i listen to regularly, my guitar teacher just gives me traditional songs and i dunno who wrote them.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-11-2004 02:02 PM

Just got 50 new cds. Tons of bluegrass, blues, jazz and quite a bit of classic rock. :)

Lucky bastard. What did you get?
Just got 50 new cds. Tons of bluegrass, blues, jazz and quite a bit of classic rock. :)
FIFTY??!! did you pay for these cds? cuz that's quite a bit of moolah. the thing i hate about buying a lot of records, or cds in your case, at one time is that you never have time to listen to them all right away. you might listen to one, and like it, so you listen to it a couple more times...and then you try another and like it, and listen to it a few more times. after a while you realize you've only listened to about a half of them.

at least thats what happened to me. i have about 200 records i haven't listened to yet.

edit- dammit, i am filling out christmas cards for different people, and i accidently signed Love Jeff on one to a teacher. do you think that is a little too much? should i change it?
