 I'm listening to Nashville Skyline right now, it's a little too countryish or something for my tastes. It' still good though, just not my cup of tea. I think I'll listen to Highway 61 now. |
Do you think that there is enough classic rock to last someone a lifetime? By this I mean is there enough classic rock music so that somebody could be very much into music their whole life and only listen to classic rock and not be bored?

I think so. When people think of classic rock they basically only scrape the surface of all the classic rock bands, because we only hear the best ones on the radio and stuff. There are way more classic rock bands than most people know of. It's like thirty years from now people will think the 90's only had Nirvana and the Spice Girls. K I'm posting a link to a site I stumbled across. It's basically just a few guys saying their opinions on everything, and this one guy is extremely stupid. I warn you guys! There is a lot of Jerry Garcia/Grateful Dead/hippy bashing in this article...if you think you might become too overwhelmed with rage, don't click the link. http://www.crazyass13.com/featured/jerrybear.html We may complain about the n00bs that come into our thread, but at least we don't get many people like this. |

There's a good 500 great classic rock bands and all of them have lots of albums so yes. Although it would be kind of stupid to just listen to classic rock because other types of music can be good too. |

Even though there are a countless number of classic rock bands, I find one of the greatest things about classic rock, is that you don't get bored of it. I could listen to the same album for a week straight and I wouldn't get sick of it. |

That, is without any shaddow of a doubt, THE single silliest thing I have ever read, it doesn't annoy me, just makes me laugh that anyone could be so stupid  |

Haha ya, I took great satisfaction in reading through all of the comments. I don't even mind people's opinions, but he shouldn't say: "So take my advice. Rip the Dead stickers off of your SUV. Burn your tie-dye's and pick up a copy of "Never Mind the Bullocks' by the Sex Pistols (My second favorite rock album). Then crank it up! You will soon forget that Jerry is dead." That's just wrong. edit- I think Badmoon may have a stroke if he reads it. Badmoon's opinions are exactly the opposite to those in the article. Get the defribulators ready! (how the hell do you spell that word!) |

A few pages back, someone asked why we don't talk about Rory Gallagher. I replied that we've talked about him before, and he's a good guitarist. I was looking through my rep, and someone put this comment on that post - "yea your cool because u have no life and all you do is post on forums"
Who the hell was that! It better not be anyone who comes in here regularly! Step forward you swine! Did anyone get similiar comments made on theirs? Why was I singled out? And I think Abbey Road might have to be my favourite album now (besides DSOTM) What are everyone elses favourite songs off this album? I love em all, but You Never Give Me Your Money and Oh Darling! are probably my favourites. edit- and does anyone know what they are saying in Spanish (or whatever it is) during Sun King. |
There was this guy a littlw while ago that gave Badmoon neg rep saying something bad about The Dead in the comment, and he was the same guy who negged me and called me a hippy fag. I guess it could be the same guy.
Abbey Road is definitely one of my favorite albums. I don't think I could pick a favorite song off it, I mean Come Together, Something, Oh! Darling, I Want You (She's So Heavy), so many greats. |
Nah man, it's cool to negative rep someone saying "You have no life" when they themselves are on the forum.. I wouldn't worry about it dude, I just repped you, for some reason. :) |
I think it would be better to ask if anyone here dislikes Abbey Road, and why.
I honestly think Abbey Road is as close to perfect as any album has ever been, it just has plain great songs on it. It doesn't need a big grand theme, crazy effects or anything like that, the songs have little room for improvement. edit- And thanks i am Jimmy Page. Wouldn't it be odd if you really were Jimmy Page and none of us took your name seriously enough to ask if you were really him. I often think about that. |
I wish I was Jimmy Page :p. And I dunno, I like Abbey Road a lot, but it's certainly NOT the Beatles best. What is..eh..it's sooooo close. Sgt. Peppers ~VS~ the White Album. I'd say White Album, 2 discs = more value. That's just my reasoning though :) |
I've never listened to the entire White Album start to finish, so I can't make a good judgment on that. But I've listened to Sgt Peppers quite a lot, and I think it's great, although a little muddy at times. I really like the basslines that the Beatles started using after they matured ('66 and on).
|
I actually don't like The White Album.
/flees |
Macca started coming into his own on Sgt. Peppers, I feel.
|
The bass line to I Want You(She's So Heavy) is wonderful, I think it's one of Paul's best bass performances.

/flees
Haha. is everyone at school right now? We have finals all this week, so I go for one test in the morning then I'm done for the day. Even though I'm supposed to be studying and my notebook is laying closed beside me. (and has been for the past few hours). This site is too addictive. I'm just wondering, comparing the Beatles first half of the sixties, to the last half, was there a change in who did more songwriting? Or was it just mostly the Lennon/Mcartney combo straight through the decade? |
I'm pretty sure it remained Lennon/Mcartney for the most part.
And here not everyone has to take exams so most people skip exam days, which I am doing right now. |
I'm pretty sure it remained Lennon/Mcartney for the most part.
And here not everyone has to take exams so most people skip exam days, which I am doing right now.
Awesome. Another question about songwriting...where it gives the songwriting credits on the album, does that mean music and words? Because for Dark Side of the Moon most of the songs have two or more people credited as songwriters, and then another spot on the album says All Lyrics by Roger Waters. Did Lennon and Mcartney write both the music and words together? Or how did that work? |
I think when it gives names by the song like that it's music because on HTWWW on some songs it has all four names, and Bonham and JPJ never wrote lyrics to my knowledge. As far as The Beatles I honestly have no idea how that worked.
Where the hell are The Beatles fanboys? |
I'm a Zepp fanboy :D
|
I'm a fanboy of several different bands. Unfortunately I don't know a lot about the Beatles. I think guitrguy knows a lot about them, I'm not sure who else would though.

Yea, guitrguy is, and Woodstock seems fairly knowledgeable on the subject. Occassionally I lurk into The Beatles thread, and I couldn't take part in the conversation if I wanted to. |

That's how I am too. I could take control of the Zeppelin thread if I wanted to, but everytime I go in there they are in the midst of a heated arguement/discussion and I don't wanna just jump in. Plus I'm not sure what they have and haven't discussed yet, so I don't wanna bring up already discussed topics. |
I also don't know much about The Beatles. They have so many albums and singles, it kinda turns me off of researching them because I don't know where to start.

Don't worry about that, the Zep thread is just n00bs. Me and JPJ are the unofficial mods of it. Livewired used to be one, but he stopped posting there. Maybe you could replace him. |

Me neither. They are obviously a great band, but I don't try to gain any knowledge about them really. I don't listen to them as much as most other people here. The Kinks=The Beatles, so I listen to the Kinks instead. |

Thickasabrick is certainly a worthy replacement. And The Kinks=The Beatles? This statement leaves me confused. |
Thickasabrick is certainly a worthy replacement.
And The Kinks=The Beatles? This statement leaves me confused.
In terms of musical ability and sound, to an extent. I just had to correct a bunch of idiots in the Zep thread about how John Bonham died. |
In terms of musical ability and sound, to an extent.
I guess they do have certain similarities. |
I guess they do have certain similarities.
I like The Kinks at least just as much, probably more than the Beatles. |
I like The Kinks at least just as much, probably more than the Beatles.
I don't own anything by them, but everything I've heard I've really liked. Is Lola vs. Powerman a good one? |
I also don't know much about The Beatles. They have so many albums and singles, it kinda turns me off of researching them because I don't know where to start.
Just buy a CD that has some of your favorite songs on it. I bought Let It Be and I'm trying to scrape up enough money to get the White Album. |
I don't own anything by them, but everything I've heard I've really liked. Is Lola vs. Powerman a good one?
An excellent album. I'm listening to it right now. It's a good concept too. |
So its settled, I'll be playing Sunshine Of Your Love in the talent show! Its easy enough for my friends (who started playing less than a year ago) to learn, and I can flawlessly play the solo. So I'm excited.

Good choice, it's such an excellent song. Even though it may be popular it hasn't been ruined. It's cool how Bruce and Clapton alternate singing but no one notices. |
