Congratulations.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-08-2005 08:50 PM

When did you start playing guitar magicbus?

Simple Man 02-08-2005 08:50 PM

Haha, Thought'd I start a conversation.

You don't have to be so mean :/

Distant Echoes 02-08-2005 08:51 PM

I just learn the tab, and whatever the notes are following, i might innovate a little using the same notes in diffrent order, though that still doesnt sound that well anyway.

But i proved i have a basic understanding when i tabbed out the entire Great Gig in the Sky Vocal solo on the guitar.

thats a major life accomplishment for me

Distant Echoes 02-08-2005 08:53 PM
I got my accounts merged.
i dont want to sound like an idiot or nothin, but what does that mean?

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-08-2005 08:54 PM

It was a huge deal to me when I learned my first Beatles song:D. Actually, my last big accomplishment was Wish You Were Here.

Distant Echoes 02-08-2005 08:56 PM

I love playing wish you were here...i should play it more, but whats great is i can sing to it too. Such a beutiful simple song

Bartender 02-08-2005 08:56 PM
Haha, Thought'd I start a conversation.

I wasn't trying to be mean :-/

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-08-2005 08:59 PM

Wish You Were Here was easier than I expected. So was Rock You Like A Hurricane. My brother says I am wasting my time on learning older songs.

magicbus 02-08-2005 09:01 PM

I started playing in August 2000.

Distant Echoes 02-08-2005 09:03 PM

I learned guitar so fast i couldnt believe it. I learned Stairway to Heaven within 4 months, and the solo was moderatly accurate. Dazed and confused - 6 months A few weeks ago i learned freebird, ABITW 1-2-3, and Comfotably numb i finished today. Ive only had my guitar a little over a year now

Distant Echoes 02-08-2005 09:05 PM

I just got registered as a moderator to a new site on the web by some random guy browsing this site...ha

take that bartender!

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-08-2005 09:05 PM

Would you recommend learning guitar from lessons? A lot of people say they don't learn enough for what they pay, but that could just be the teachers at Roxy's(the closest music store to me).

magicbus 02-08-2005 09:06 PM

Congrats!

I wasted the first 6 months playing punk songs, and didn't really start with Dazed and Confused type stuff until about a year in.
:upset:

And I have an amazing teacher. If he was available to you I'd definently recommend him. Otherwise, it depends what you're learning. I wouldn't pay 15 bucks a week to just have them teach you songs. I've learned scales, theory type stuff, good speed excerises (some don't help), other technique things, chords and how they fit with the scale, stuff like that.

You can play Comfortably Numb with the solos?

Simple Man 02-08-2005 09:06 PM
I wasn't trying to be mean :-/
Uhhhhh huh.

Distant Echoes 02-08-2005 09:07 PM

lessons will bore the hell out of you, which is why i never took one, but now i wish i knew the scales and modes etc.

i would take them, but at home, learn at your own pace with your own music

Distant Echoes 02-08-2005 09:09 PM
You can play Comfortably Numb with the solos?
yes.

I dont mean to brag if this is how you take it, but its really quite simple.

its a few riffs on a basic scale on the 7th fret, jazzin around a little, and he occasionally rips a few right down the scale, which is simple once you learn to barre, which i did when i leanred stairway

amzing how great it sound too, i cant belive i can get that sound out of my ****ty little ibanez

Too bad your teacher is probably too far away for me. :upset: Maybe I should move to wherever you live...
I try to get my dad to teach me stuff, but he always gets carried away with whatever he's playing.

Distant Echoes 02-08-2005 09:12 PM

I have a list of song i keep track on on my computer of all the songs i know and am learning. I would show em, but its a full page, and most of it is within Zeppelin and Rush.

and dont worry magicbus, i started punk too, with riffs like Brainstew and 7 Nation army, but thankfully LZIV changed my ways. I honestly have no idea why i liked that album...i hated it, but i couldnt stop listening to it.

But its not about what your taught, its just if you have the ambition and desire to play - that goes to everyone in general.

Simple Man 02-08-2005 09:15 PM
Er. Congratulations?
Haha when you say "Congratulations", It comes off in a mean way.

Distant Echoes 02-08-2005 09:16 PM
Er. Congratulations?
Good Answer! and lets keep it like that...

thatll be ironic the day a 300 poster on mx bans a thousand+++ poster in a different tab site...

But anyway, i wish my dad played guitar. One of my friends has a really amazing dad, and he wouldve been famous with his band, but THE RAMONES got signed instead of his band sincep punk was in.

But this kid went to Tennesse for a wedding or somethin, stopped by a local music store and was playin an acoustic, and some guy gave him his card and said 'if you ever want a record deal, call me up'

On acoustic, a 17 year old kid can get a deal? Ive heard him shred before, and this kid is amazing. Hes playing at the talent show, and i just want to see his band

That's a good point. My teacher also pointed out that what makes me good is that I actually want to play, and have a genuine love for the instrument. Which is true, guitar is the best thing that's ever happened to me. That was a pretty positive comment. :thumb:

And how old are you guys? Echoes and junkie?

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-08-2005 09:18 PM

I'm 14, I'll be 15 in June.

Freezing Moon 02-08-2005 09:19 PM

Right now I have a whole folder full of tabs that I am trying to learn. I made a playlist of all the songs and I'm trying to be able to sit down and play through all of the songs as they're going. It'd be pretty cool to just put in a CD and be able to play everything on it.

Distant Echoes 02-08-2005 09:19 PM

Im 16

and consider youself lucky, thats the first time i ever gave my age on the internet.

magicbus 02-08-2005 09:20 PM

Ok. I'll be 18 in May, and I started when I was 13. I thought I'd see when you guys started too.

My guitar teacher is high throughout some of our classes, but we have fun.

Thats what i do. I got a CD of songs i know and occasionally practice, a CD of Acoustic songs i can Play, CD of songs i can sort of sing to, and a CD of songs I am learning. Next is crossroads for me...means i better update my profile again.

I would put up my list of songs i know, but i wouldnt want to take up space.

i really want to get an SG...just got another guitar center ad today. I was lookin at it forever, just adoring what i wish i had

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-08-2005 09:22 PM

Well I first attempted at 12, but I didn't really start playing til 13.

Wow! My lucky day! I've been looking for a fresh 16 year old to molest for years now. Too bad I don't know where you live :(

Never give you age away on the internet

You take this crap too seriously.

Distant Echoes 02-08-2005 09:23 PM

What i hate is when punk/emo people get Les Pauls or similar guitars and just play their repetitive powerchord over and over and brag about it.

Give a man a Les Paul - he wont become no Jimmy Page, he becomes what he makes him

I wish people would realize this
