I willdo, like I said, I will keep trying

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 04:55 PM

Actually, before you get all those, why don't you check out Ticks& Leeches. The drumming is exceptional on that song, and Maynard does some of the most wicked screaming on that song. It took him 3 weeks before he fully recovered from recording it, and he refuses to sing it live. There is a lame 3 minute segue in the middle, but other than that, the song is extraordinary. It would probably suit your tastes more, too. :)

We should have Tool discussion counted as spam. <-<

I guess you are right in a way, this discussion should be in the Tool thread.

And yes, I realised you were joking

Kingofdudes 06-25-2005 05:03 PM
We should have Tool discussion counted as spam. <-<
Or you can ban everyone talking about tool, and have another "accident" where every banned account gets deleted

Lord Abortion 06-25-2005 05:07 PM

NOOOO- i wasn't talking

/changes subject

you know those girls who have no Idea how beautiful or sought after they are?

clearvision 06-25-2005 05:07 PM

:( why all the tool hating?

And jake, they do play ticks live sometimes, I don't know how it is performed. It hink maynard dirnks some strange liquid before performing.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 05:08 PM

At least it was something constructive, unlike these posts.

Jelle- Ban anyone dumb lately?

/runs out of ideas to ressurect thread

Rob- I heard that they did it, but he used some wierd synthesizer effect so that it sounded like he was screaming, but it was actually a computer or something. Meh.

Yeah you make it perfectly clear to them how much you like them, they still moan about themselves all the time. Then they go and screw you in the arse by making out with some dude at their school prom...

see L+R for emo rant.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 05:12 PM

At least you got screwed in the arse...

wait..

Literal thinking minus minus

I had the same thing happen to me recently. I've told Madey and Ray, so I don't really feel like telling it again, but it's about the same scenario. Actually, almost the nearly exactly the same scenario...Except it wasn't prom, it was a different school dance. :p

clearvision 06-25-2005 05:15 PM

And what did you do about it?

Lord Abortion 06-25-2005 05:16 PM

i mean I'm telling her how amazing she is and she doesn't believe me!!!

Dancin' Man 06-25-2005 05:17 PM

Everyone going to go check out my Jazz Metal thread? Amit has entered which should make things interesting as he is the man.

superpeer 06-25-2005 05:17 PM

Haha, I was just joking, guys. Talk about Tool all you want,, it's better than spam. I just dislike Tool, quite a bit.

clearvision 06-25-2005 05:18 PM

Please explain the dislike 'peer... :)

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 05:25 PM

They're boring and egocentric, duh.

Hey, I posted more in depth on your/our in the L&R. :) I included some advice as well.

Oh, and what I did about it: Me and her still talk on an untimely basis, but I told her that because we're so much alike, it wouldn't have worked out anyways.

/has no balls

What I want to tell her: I still like her, I will probably like her for a while, and if she ever wants to just hook up, hey, I'm down.

/has no heart

clearvision 06-25-2005 05:27 PM

Yeha, thanks :)

Bartender 06-25-2005 05:29 PM

My flatmate kept a steady line of "Tool's music is contrived and pretentious" throughout the whole year, but I'm pretty sure he hadn't actually heard much by them. He kept insisting their music was only there as a vehicle for them to show off their virtuosic brilliance on their instruments, and his views on what is and is not pretentious I tend to discount anyway.

clearvision 06-25-2005 05:31 PM

I can't say they are virtuosic, with the exception of danny.

Pretentious and contrived don't exactly sound like insults. I love the way tools music is contrived and structured with all these deep meanings that people can look into etc...

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 05:32 PM

He obviously hadn't heard them much, as he proclaimed them all as virtuosos.

Either way, that would have nothing to do with their music being pretentious, would it? How can music be pretentious!?!

Maybe he has them confused with Dream Theater. I don't recall Adam Jones doing any sweep arpeggios or Justin Chancellor doing any two-handed polyrhythmic tapping. They're just a progressive grunge band, really.

But I like them.

I have never heard them be called that but it is actually quite a good description of them :thumb:

superpeer 06-25-2005 05:39 PM

Yeah, it's hard to say.

First of all, maynard's singing, I hate it. I think the music is boring, nothing memorable, so yeah, I can't think of a reason to like them. Plus all the fanboys, always announcing them to be the best band ever. :)

Same goes for Dream Theater, actually.

Moses 06-25-2005 05:41 PM

That's a shame, I like both bands.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 05:41 PM

Yeah, I was thinking his description sounded more like Dream Theater too. :p

Grunge? I suppose at moments, but it's hard to classify them as one genre, as they cover so much ground throughout their songs.

Wow, this is turning into the Tool thread. :p

Shall we get some cover talk started?

Moses 06-25-2005 05:46 PM
Shall we get some cover talk started?
I posted in the Tool thread that I might be able to get some work done on the vocals tonight.

superpeer 06-25-2005 05:47 PM
That's a shame, I like both bands.
Half of mx does. Vocals are weird, they don't really make the song, usually. Like if the music is boring or just bad, vocals usually don't make up for it. (Maybe Patton?)

But they are like the key to the liking of a band, both Tool and Dream Theater have horrible vocalists, in my opinion. Same goes for Extreme metal newbies, how many posts do you read saying "I like the music, not the vocals"

Vocals are like the surface, if you don't like them, there's not much chance you'll go through to the deeper part.

Yet average vocals, can work perfectly in a song, I could even say, go unnoticed and be part of a great song. So It's important and not important. Weird. Vocals.

Yeah. /tl;dr

Bartender 06-25-2005 05:49 PM

Exactly.
Well of course music can be pretentious.

By way of example though, his idea of pretentious was, often, a solo.

Moses 06-25-2005 05:50 PM

It's just personal tastes. I really didn't like James Labrie's voice at first but then it grew on me a little more. Same with Maynard but in less time, and now I like it alot.

Bartender 06-25-2005 05:51 PM

I like Maynard's voice. LaBrie's often (for the most part, basically) is just incredibly annoying, though.
