I found out on friday that my job is being made redundant by a someone who has been here 3 months and decided to make job changes even though it will end up costing more money.

Got offered another job in another department on a trial period but I had my career set out and was going to take exams for it and shizzle next year. Absolute joke.

On the upside I bought myself a SNES with loads of Mario games

big80smullet 11-16-2008 07:24 AM

that sucks man. good luck in the new department.

careers are for sellouts.

Thanks mate. Was really looking forward to progressing careerwise with the company though and then they go and do this. It's not saving money in any way as the roles that take over my one cost more money in both recruitment and salary wise. Absolute joke. Still everything happens for a reason I suppose.

perriwinkle 11-16-2008 01:42 PM

the reason always comes after what happened!

some time soon you will be all good and it wouldnt have happened otherwise

That's awful. Re-orgs are always expensive. Companies only do it to hopefully save money in the long run. But I don't see how it applies in your case.

I've asked my manager for an explanation (obviously she is furious because since I've joined the service levels have gone up) - the one she gave is that the director wants it how it was before. Instead of having administrators doing the admin work for the company and the advisors/managers dealing with the recruitment/disciplinaries etc. she wants to bring in advisors to do both.

This is how it was before and the workload was ridiculous which is why they created the administrator role for the company in the first place. That's what annoys me the most. And the advisor role will cost £5-10,000 a year each in salary increases from the previous administrator role. I asked to be trained up to this standard but to do that I would have to do a qualification that would take 4 years and apparently the director wants two advisors that are already fully trained.

Sucks ass.

Wanker 11-16-2008 04:35 PM

Wow, they really just phased your position out.

Have you ever seen the film Falling Down? The main character was fired because he wasn't 'economically viable.' He went on a killing rampage though. Modern economics is making it harder for young people to maintain a career. Companies want experience and aren't willing to train people from the inside in order for them to gain that experience.

YDload 11-16-2008 04:57 PM

how many people did michael douglas actually kill in that movie? besides himself of course. im thinkin not that many

Wanker 11-16-2008 05:02 PM

Maybe 3 or 4 people, so I guess the word rampage doesn't apply. He was more of a vigilante of sorts.

niobium 11-17-2008 01:20 AM

i thought robert duvall could have been much better

Glitterati 11-17-2008 01:53 AM

The lame thing about killing sprees is that in the end, you either a) give yourself up to the SWAT team, or b) kill yourself.

YDload 11-17-2008 02:14 AM

yeah in the REAL world maybe, but i'm sure someone could make it work in a movie.

like quentin tarantino.

perriwinkle 11-17-2008 12:40 PM

thought you guys might be interested in this, its an Unwound interview about Leaves Turn Inside You. the dude who transcribed it sucks... there are some grammatical errors that i'm sure weren't spoken, but it's usually straight and you can get what they were saying when he did make a mistake. niobium 11-17-2008 12:46 PM

i always got the impression that they just knew what they were doing all the time

br3ad_man 11-17-2008 06:07 PM

The questions are really bad as well but it's still interesting.

you know what i've realized is that english majors are actually mostly all stupid **** heads who actually speak more poorly than most other people who happen to be studying something other than their own first language

off the point, but it is something i finally pieced together while hanging out at my neighbor's, watching him "work" on a "presentation"
