Since when do you listen to Maiden?

rippa32 01-29-2006 12:28 AM

Hey I was just thinking about how Iron Maiden have two solo's each song because of two lead guitarists, which no ither band Ive heard has done and that each guitarist is so distinctive you can tell who is playing what solo. But then I got to thinking about Janick(I don't actually have any albums with Janick). Do they actually have three solos with him?

blackthorne 01-29-2006 01:15 AM

dotr is pushed back again ..... i hope maiden don't go all axl on us and never release it
That sucks.

Anyways...I was watching the NotB video the other day and I thought "Cor...Nicko's got fatter!"

Then I remembered I was watching Clive.

In other news, was Adrian really influenced by Brian May? I've just been listening to some queen ( :D ) and I noticed they can sound really alike in places.
Brian May is awesome, and incredibly underrated. He built his own guitar. Eric Clapton once said "Brian May can do things with the guitar that I wouldn't dream of doing." Seriously, he has some of my favourite guitar solos ever. Queen's guitarwork is great.

I have no idea because I don't listen to that much new Maiden. I think they just have two solos from two different guitarists, but they change which two every song. And when playing old songs live, I imagine they just do it differently every time or, in the case of the Trooper, they have two guitarists playing the same solo at the same time \m/

PepsiMetal 01-29-2006 03:06 AM

Hmm, I thought they played 2 different harmonized solos?

superdigg 01-29-2006 05:45 AM

Brave New World (song) has three guitar harmonies during the first verse (Davey playing riff, Jannick playing lead, Adrian playing chords), The Fallen Angel has three guitar solos, as do Paschendale and Dance Of Death and No Moe Lies.

crag 01-29-2006 09:16 AM

me hopes they make more use of 3 guitars in the next album, i feel that they haven't quite used that to it's full potential yet.

I haven't heard any newer Maiden, would you say it holds up against their older work?

yes.

The newer stuff is more progressive in my opinion, it's not as raw and energetic...but it's still good.

PinkFloydFan082692 01-29-2006 10:18 AM
Since when do you listen to Maiden?
since you started playing them in the morning, waking me up during the summer

you could say it's got a lot more technical i suppose.

MidnightRider 01-29-2006 10:21 AM

Cool, I'll probably pick up DOD later on today.

DOD is great, the only song i don't like is Gates of Tomorrow, even though it's good.
Brave New World (song) has three guitar harmonies during the first verse (Davey playing riff, Jannick playing lead, Adrian playing chords), .
That wouldn't be a harmony.

the_uber_penguin 01-29-2006 11:39 AM
That wouldn't be a harmony.
It's not linear harmony (which is normally the sort you find in metal music) but it's harmony in the broader, classical sense of the word.

EDIT: Is it just me, or does my bands mascot look like an aquatic Eddie?

Hehe nice plug...

the_uber_penguin 01-29-2006 01:03 PM
Hehe nice plug...
But George does look like Eddie, right?

I should say Chris (drummer/drawings) isn't a huge fan of Maiden, so the resemblence is probably coincidental.

He does like them enough to let me cover The Wicker Man, which I'll get online as soon as I can.

Lord Abortion 01-29-2006 01:15 PM

I do like the fact that you hold his artistic skill so highly it's "drummer/drawings"

the_uber_penguin 01-29-2006 02:02 PM

He's a great drummer. He can play much faster then he claims, and has some excellent rhythm.

He's also darn good with the old pens.
