trust me,he rimshots and he has a big snare

thelittledrummerboy 03-09-2005 11:51 PM

I heard alot of things that make that sound that aren't rimshots such as using two skins and strapping a piece of metal to the bottom of the drum to give it that hollow, metallic sound. but rimshots could be all it is. My friend said when he saw them in Sydney that the snare sounded like it always did.
he can shred?
James does some pretty cool **** on the Cunning Stunts DVD. If anyone has that listen to his improvs in Fade to Black and Leper Messiah(the first part of the 2 dvd)

6stringslinger 03-10-2005 12:42 AM

I bet James can do a lot more things on the guitar than most people think. I don't know if we will ever hear what he is completely capable of.

lecky 03-10-2005 12:49 AM

im sure he could play lead if he really wanted to, he doesnt appear to be as quick as kirk but from the little teasers u see here and there, james can really let it rip when he wants, not to mention their riffs arent very easy to sing and play. but he doesnt seem to struggle at any point of any song - peace

ThrashMaster27 03-10-2005 12:55 AM

I'm sure he could pull off a few solo's, but he doesn't. Why? who knows. Metallica aren't a band that share Lead duties like Slayer, Megadeth, Priest etc etc. Perhaps James isn't good at creating solos, cause I can't see any reason he doesn't do more.

mprules 03-10-2005 01:00 AM

also i think he said at one time that playing leads would get in the way of his "drinking"

lecky 03-10-2005 01:01 AM

yeah this is true, any solos that he does do are scripted, MoP, nothing else matters...... but then again kirk just plays slightly modified versions of the albums solo's... its one for the ages why james doesnt solo more. frankly im not fussed i think that their lay out works a charm. and it'd have to wouldnt it coz theyve come a fair way

metal guitar III 03-10-2005 10:07 AM

I'm 99% sure that Kirk not James played the leads on KEA.

EightyProof 03-10-2005 11:05 AM

Does anyone know how these guys play the solos so fast like on One and the solo after the slow one on Master of Puppets?

By being good

EightyProof 03-10-2005 11:07 AM
By being good
I know that but is there a special way they play them or is it just regular picking?

Alternate picking is how I would do it.

Kirk's sh*t is FAST

Six Foot Revolver 03-10-2005 12:20 PM
Kirk's sh*t is FAST :amaze:
I don't think it is anywhere near as fast as everyone says it is.

IMO, people like Marty Friedman and Jason Becker are sh*t fast. Much faster then Kirk.

no, go listen to some real guitar players.

Six Foot Revolver 03-10-2005 12:38 PM
no, go listen to some real guitar players.
I wouldn't go that far

Squiggle 03-10-2005 12:40 PM

i would, kirk is overhyped, sloppy and monotonous.

metal guitar III 03-10-2005 12:43 PM
i would, kirk is overhyped, sloppy and monotonous.
It's true that he's overhyped.

I don't agree with one point you said there

Chu 03-10-2005 12:43 PM

Don't really need to be so hard on him.
It's obvious he hasn't heard much, if any Megadeth (And from that Marty Friedman), and I highly doubt he would have the fogiest idea who Jason Becker is.

You could instead, go about it in a different way and just recommend he listens to some Jason Becker or Marty Friedman (Maybe via Cacophony), and then listen to Kirk again and judge who has the speed.

Rusty Cooley is much faster than them.
He sounds like a damn computer game :-/

You're right. I used to think Kirk was the fastest, but then I just went discovering more music and guitarists.
EDIT: I will check out Rusty Cooley

Yesterday was my 20th birthday. I went to buy SKOM, but couldn't find a pirate version (which is cheap), so I bought a Yngwie DVD.

Shi, I'm getting old :upset:

Chu 03-10-2005 01:10 PM

You're only a fraction older then me though.
But how fast does time go by now, I could have sworn yesterday was 2002 :x

I haven't got around to watching the second disc yet. I really just wanna see the rest of the Mustaine interview.
