Other places do it to, you know. I'm at Glamorgan, near Cardiff. Though I appreciate that's a long way from Burklee.

Accentopus 10-12-2004 10:05 AM

....made in korea though so it's just a cheap decorational thing :p

Wintermute 10-12-2004 10:12 AM

You're not far off Uni, when I stop to convert this dangerously modern year system...

My old school/college was endowed in the 15th century, and modern things scared them. We still used the old system of years.
Back off, I have swords!
i have 3 swords

Wintermute 10-12-2004 10:27 AM

I have 5.

Plus the aforementioned ability to use them. Placed tenth in the Northwest two years ago, haven't done much tournament play since then, but higher.

Omega Red 10-12-2004 10:28 AM

yeah but mine a made from traditional japaneese folded steel

Wintermute 10-12-2004 10:30 AM

Made in china, no doubt? Retail price 30 bucks?

Regardless, no matter how good your sword is, try using it after I impale your wrist as you go for the attack (my personal speciality)

...and thus man invented the tactical nuke...

Wintermute 10-12-2004 10:32 AM

Pfft. Warfare became boring after the invention of the musket.

Guns lack style, and have utterly no finesse or grace.

I agree wholeheartedly there :thumb:

Meaning the tang doesn't break if you touch the pommel, and that there may be one or two folds in the steel.

FUNKNBASS 10-12-2004 10:36 AM

All I know is that swords are sharp.

Wintermute 10-12-2004 10:37 AM
All I know is that swords are sharp.
I'm often told that I know worrying amounts about swords, and archaic arms. Just ask Kwash/The Lorax, he set me off one night and I ranted to him over MSN for about an hour about them.

FUNKNBASS 10-12-2004 10:44 AM

I think there cool its just that I dont know ****, I mean i know enough to tell which end you hold and the basic parts.

Wintermute 10-12-2004 10:48 AM

It's actually amazing how many misconceptions there are about archaic arms and armour. Samurai were not invincible, and Knights were very mobile indeed, for instance.

FUNKNBASS 10-12-2004 10:50 AM

I saw this Mail Call episode on samurai and knights as well. I learned a little, at least enough to counteract the movies I've seen.

Wintermute 10-12-2004 10:52 AM

Movies are the least reliable source of information you'll ever see.

Interesting fact - the average suit of plate mail at the time of the Hundred Years War weighed the same as the average field pack a modern soldier would be given. It was also a lot better balanced.
