Play the Hendrix Version of the Star Spangled Banner. |
due to the recent success of our school's performance of Guys and Dolls, our Rememberance Day concert, and our Choir concerts...some teachers have asked me if i wanted to perform anything else for the school. I was thinking it would be cool to make a "concert for peace", and the money could go to some sort of charity. I know a lot of good protest and war type songs, and our school is filled with good musicians. i think it would be a good idea, im sure the local news guy wouldn't mind coming down, he likes doing stuff like this.
Does anyone think this sounds like a good idea? I could get up there and play a few Dylan/any good protest songs, and get a few friends to play some songs too. It could be like a Woodstock for my city.
That's pretty cool. "All Along The Watchtower" (Hendrix or Dylan, depending on the skill of those involved) "The Times They Are A-Changin'", "Masters of War", "Blowin' in the Wind", "With God on Our Side", "Hurricane" (Dylan) "Gimme Shelter" (the Stones) "Machine Gun" (Hendrix...but it depends on the guitarist you can find) "Vietnam" (Jimmy Cliff) "War Pigs", "Children of the Grave" (Sabbath) All come to mind. |
Machine Gun might be tough to pull off, but it would be well worth it if you could manage it.
|
If you have the equipment and the talent for it, go for it. If not, don't bother.
|
Ha, I voted for them. And if it wasn't for my almost hypocritical vote, they would have tied. ;)
You're welcome :thumb:
:( But you despise Zeppelin....I....I...don't understand  And thickasabrick that's awesome you should do Fortunate Son. |
what's your favourite album? I bought Workingmans Dead a few days ago and i thihnk it's great, i hadn't heard any of the songs off of it. they didn't have American Beauty so i just downloaded all the songs, im gonna try and buy the record when i can find it.
i really like Sugar Magnolia too, that and Friend of the Devil are probably my favourites from what i've heard. i actually went to buy Blonde on Blonde, but it was 40 bucks cdn...Dylan records are always overpriced. i told my brother and sister to buy it for me for christmas, i'm excited. Workingman's Dead was only 10 bucks, they had a lot of Grateful Dead albums, but i didn't know what was good besides that and American Beauty..so i just bought one. they were all fairly cheap.
It's hard to pick me favorite, but along the lines of Reckoning, Skull & Roses, and Workingman's Dead. |
:( But you despise Zeppelin....I....I...don't understand
And thickasabrick that's awesome you should do Fortunate Son.
Yea but I guess Classic Rock> Metal. And I agree with Moon about Skull and Roses, it's probably my favorite Dead album. |
Could someone fill me in on what's been going on...??
Yeah, I've also got 30 bucks. Suggestions? I know, I'm horrible with money :upset: |
Yeah, Fortunate Son would be a great easy song to pull off. I'd also try to do Ohio.
|
My dads landlord found about 500 cds in abanded in a appartment and gave them all to him and I get to pick which ones I get to have he says there are names like Bob Dylan, The Byrds, The Doors, CCR, The Dead and tons of blues stuff in there. I get to go though them all tonight. I cant wait. :)
That's pretty cool.

Fortunate Son and Ohio.
Buy some weed. :thumb:
haha. i can't believe that's the only suggestion you had. usually when money comes along my way i like to spend it on books, cds/records, weed :upset:, and going to movies. even though it usually ends up buying gas for my car. i wanna do this peace concert without making it sound like an "anti-american" concert. like obviously the US is a major contributer to the violence that's going on, but im more against Bush than the US in general. and definitely not Star Spangled Banner, I'm Canadian. Actually last year this guy at my school played O Canada for a talent show, and he dressed like Hendrix, played a left handed strat turned around, played behind his back and all that jazz. he made it sound totally like hendrix with lots of distortion, wah and adding lots of great fills. no one really understood it but me though. |
Would you be able to do Mama, I Dont Wanna Be A Soldier?
|
Would you be able to do Mama, I Dont Wanna Be A Soldier?
i've never heard it :amaze: ... who's it by? |
"Where have all the Flowers gone" Who sung that anyway?
|
John Lennon, it's off of Imagine.
And it's I Dont Wanna Be A Soldier Mama, I got it mixed up. |

Hendrix would never sink that low. |
oh ok. i suppose lennon would be a good guy to look towards for peace songs.
give peace a chance would be a fun one to do. |
Hendrix would never sink that low.
what the hell is that supposed to mean? it better not be a cheap shot at canada... you don't see american teenagers having to put on concerts for charity because canada is killing harmless people. |
i was just kidding by the way about the america thing... if you guys can think of anymore protest songs i will be very grateful, i dont really have enough to make a big concert out of at this point.
but i must be going. im going to venture drinking again for the first time since in a few months...i hope it goes well. Have fun you guys!!! and pray i do too. |
you don't see american teenagers having to put on concerts for charity because canada is killing harmless people.
